Anyone here played the 2009 release of Resident Evil 4 for iPhone?

The market cap is an indicator of investor's confidence for the future.

No iPhone surpasses a $1799 MSRP.

The game is for iPhones with ray tracing & 8GB RAM.

Why are you all mad about? Don't you already have a gaming PC or console already?

The game's for anyone who does not own a gaming PC & console.
Phone was 2099 Euro. The game runs on switch too with 4GB ram. M1 doesnt support ray tracing.
It’s some apple decision to push their iphone 15p sales but I think this will backfire. Normally game publishers are interested to reach as many potential buyers as possible. Apple does their apple way which IMO will not work with games.

market cap is phantasy powered by (cheap) money. Not seldom even bankrupt companies skyrocket. Value can change any time. From FOMO to panic. FED printed trillions of dollars, now they stopped and we see a sliding market.

The version on the Switch is based on the 2005 original game, the version on the iPhone is based on the 2023 remake.

Then let the developers optimize the code and make the game 30% more ram efficient. Reduce resolution a bit. Whatever. But it’s not about the game it’s about promoting the 15p.

Frauds willing to spend $1100+ on a new iPhone every year but not $60 for good games, and then they wonder why the only games on iOS are freemium “games” full of in app purchases and ads
If it was a brand new game not a now year old remake of an already really old game I’m guessing you wouldn’t see these bad responses. That’s the issue here with the price in this specific case.

The majority of gamers still care about physical as the majority of game sales on Nintendo Switch and PS4/5 are physical.

That's revenue not units sold.

Do you have numbers of units sold of physical vs digital?

Aren't digital sale price more variable than disc sale price?
It's a different story on PC as thanks to Apple essentially killing disc drives on PCs with the late 2012 iMac and Macbook Airs we don't have physical copies anymore when in the past even with Steam being around we still had lots of physical PC games.
Pls provide number of units sold of physical vs digital.

Not revenue.
If that were true they wouldn't be teaming up with companies like Limited Run to do physical retail copies of smaller more niche titles.
As you pointed out those are niche.
Again...majority of game sales on PS4/5 and Nintendo Switch being physical beg to differ. The only platform where your "consumer behavior" statement holds true is Xbox, but that's not from digital game sales but primarily Game Pass subscriptions. It's why everytime a new game comes to Xbox the first question is always "is it day one on Game Pass?"
Pls provide number of units sold of physical vs digital.

Not revenue.
Ah yes...digital is certainly more convenient. Playing a game by just putting in a disc?! How barbaric! It's a lot more convenient just searching for a game on the digital store and waiting hours for it to download.
It isnt about barbarism it's laziness. And instant gratification. Why wait for overnight shipping when I can have the game platform just download it on a 1Gbps fiber connection that is slowly being deployed worldwide.

And this isn't even factoring in the fact eventually said console storefront WILL close, meaning all those digital games are gone with no way to buy them or in some cases no longer downloadable, while the physical owners can just put the game in and go even long after the store shuts down.
Again, I am writing from the perspective of the business and not a vintage gamer.

Buyers of brand new games will go with the current gaming PC & console.

Used games have little to no revenue from the business' perspective. Wasn't that rational of what Xbox tried to do years ago? Playstation played up that PR mess by saying you can play used games on their hardware.
According to that ERA report 30% of that was free to play mobile games, so I think the numbers are a little misleading in that report, especially given the numbers physical copies of Nintendo games do.
Even if that is misleading it is more than 50% in 2022.

Consumer behavior's changing towards an all digital distribution model.

When 10th gen & succeeding gen platforms comes out they will be increasingly more digital.

There's even talk that there will not be a 8K blu-ray disc or disc player by 2026 because market forces a preference for streaming or downloads.

For movies & TV shows I've had an aversion to physical media since 2001 as a decade or 2 later they'll release a remaster or reissue. I much prefer streaming or downloads.

Just wait a few months it will go on sale… but yeah not making this a universal game to me seems ludicrous… the only reason I’d want this on my iPhone would just be to see how well it runs but I’d actually put the work in to beat the game on a proper console or computer with a nice big screen! Are they expecting people to buy it for iPhone AND Mac?

I've got a 15 Pro Max on the way, but there's no way I'm considering $60 for a mobile game with touch controls that I can get for cheaper and/or play better on the PS5 or Switch (and in some cases, desktop Mac). This whole "play console games on your phone" thing seems nuts to me.

I think they'll succeed.

I welcome this. Yes, the price is steep but the universal app that works across A17/M1+ Apple devices offers a good deal of flexibility. Add in the ability to use a USB-to-DP cable and "dock" an iOS device into a gaming monitor and you've got an interesting prospect. Yes, a lot of people will have a PS5/Xbox Series console, but there will also be a lot of people who still have a PS4/XBox One generation console and thus no access to some of these games. If (and it's a big if at this stage), more and more of these games come to iOS then these people would have the choice to not drop $/£400-odd dollars on a new console in favour of a Apple device they would buy or have anyway.

Lot's of reasons this approach could fail, not least Apple losing interest. I get the feeling Apple splashed a bit of cash to encourage Capcom to port the RE games.

$/£400-odd dollars is money saved on a literal 1-trick-pony.

Smartphones, whether iPhone or Android, has so much utility beyond just being a phone. That's what killed so many big name phone brands and MP3 players.

So in terms of value for money and utility it is a better buy for over 1.2-1.3 billion users annually.

Uhh....this isn't very complicated. It's a Mac game that can be also played on a phone. For $60, in 2023, that seems reasonable. It would be like if I paid $60 for Final Fantasy 16 for my PS5 and the devs also included the ability to play it on my iPhone...not a bad combo if you ask me.

Also, people who want to play it on the go.
That's one of the attractions of the Switch.

It combines a Gameboy + console at a price that will not break their banks and yet Nintendo makes a profit per console made.

Real gamers on Xbox, Playstation & PC will mock it but it does not reflect to the astounding units sales or revenue Nintendo has made.

You can’t play RE4 Remake on the Switch. Also, you can use DualSense, Xbox controllers or Kishi/Backbone to play it on iPhone.
