People who wear shirts and suits for work don’t tend to wear chunky smartwatches though. Apple already cater to this market with the standard Apple Watch don’t they? The Ultra is bulky and not the prettiest Watch too so that tends to ensure it’s market is more sports oriented.
I thought the same. It appears bulky. It isn’t, at least when it’s on the wrist. Most of the people I know that have been interested in one or bought one, even looking at them with buyer’s intent in the Apple store aren’t athletes, at least in appearance. There’s a market gap with these. I see it.

A 45mm watch is too big for my wrist so the Ultra doesn’t appeal to me at all. I’m sure those that like it enjoy it and probably can’t understand why others don’t, but that’s why there is options available. If Siri doesn’t improve fast, my 6 year spell with Apple watches will be coming to an end anyway. Asking Siri 3 times for simple and clear regularly used requests is getting frustrating lately and if it’s not fixed soon, i’ll be going back to a regular watch full time.

The ultra is the first Apple Watch that I feel comfortable using it to track my sleep (without worrying about the battery life).

49 mm case, double the brightness, depth gauge and ocean app, siren, double the battery life, action button, 100 meter depth, dual speakers, 3 microphone array, dual frequency GPS.
Most of your list isn't new tech at all, just minor spec bumps. The depth gauge is new, as is the dual-frequency GPS - I had forgotten about those, so thanks! 👍🏻

A larger battery or an extra button don't really qualify as "new tech" though, by any standards 🤣

Those aren’t new tech aspects, per se, but they are key differences in what the Ultra offers that other Apple Watches do not. So they are, indeed, relevant and pertinent here.

New tech... better tech... tomato... tomoto... There are still many differences.

Not sure why you seem to be down playing the ultra, but it is a far superior device than any other apple watch IMO.

While I don't disagree, the Ultra is more than a larger titanium chassis and bigger display. It's got features and capabilities unique to it, separate from its design. Battery life alone makes it an easily attractive option, no matter what series Apple Watch you're coming from. It lasts easily 2-3 times longer than my Series 5 44mm did when it was new. I get 2-3 days of charge with workouts no problem. Night mode, Action Button, Display brightness, are all really nice features that you cannot get on the Apple Watches that also make it a very appealing watch to me. But the Battery is truly the show stopper for the Ultra. And I still don't understand the problem with the S6 processor being used in the Ultra. It's incredibly snappy and efficient. Performance hasn't been a problem since the Series 4.

The Ultra has an S8 processor.

I came very close to getting the Ultra, when i got caught up in the initial frenzy when it was announced. I ordered it, then later cancelled because there was such a long backlog. Now several months later, I'm glad I waited and let the impulse pass. It would have been close to $1000 with tax and AppleCare (although I seldom get AppleCare), and my S8 is doing everything I need. I don't really need a better battery, diving functions, a siren, louder speakers or brighter screen, and I don't want a heavier, thicker and larger watch.
I may change my mind later, but right now I have little desire to get one.

On-wrist pics, btw?
Love the night-mode on the new Watch face. Pride Band because it's the best band for swimming(don't have the Ocean Band).

I thought the same. Price-wise, the Ultra isn’t far off from the stainless steel S8. Once I tried the Ultra on, it was love at first wear. Dan Barbera (sp?) on MacRumors got me more open to try it out because I absolutely thought it would be bulky on the wrist. It’s not at all, not how we expect it to, at least.

Night Mode 🔥 and Apple has really good-looking Pride bands. I want some camo bands in black and another in olive, but Apple doesn’t make them 😕

Ok if you like a chunk on your wrist, but to me only worth it for the battery if you really can’t be arsed charging your watch each day (with your phone).
There is the brighter screen of course but I don’t read people going on about that and I can’t say I have a problem with my s5 in all but extremely bright sunshine.
Annoyingly, I would like a night mode and gps indicator on the regular series, I think it’s a bit lame it is not offered (watchos10 maybe?).
