I just called apple. Although the 4-6 week delay is gone on the website, my ship date is still July 24th. The person on the phone basically said that if I canceled my order and made a new one, the shipdate would still be in 4-6 weeks for my configuration and address. And I'm from New York. This doesn't make any sense.

So technically if we ordered our MBP's 7 days ago, they should be shipping today?
Technically, no. They still need to install the drives and package the shipments.

If they were shipping today, I would expect the order status to change (at least to "Ready for shipping") and the payment to be processed. I don't see any activity on my credit card.

i don't either. and it still appears that it would let me cancel my order on the cancel screen.

but regardless, this looks like a good sign. apple may have their customer service quirks, but there's no way in hell they would let people ordering today ahead of us in the queue.

Aye, they'd have a huge mess on their hands. No one would be stupid enough to do that.

so the store changed the shipping estimate for new orders? .. well mine's i'm still at july 18 (i'm also in NY)... but maybe this is some hope? oh well. this is like getting mixed signals from a girl. haha.

Hmmm, maybe it's a mistake then, or maybe your store hasn't been updated yet.

Funny just checked this myself - usa 5-7 days, uk and germany 4-6weeks.

Must be a bug. And lets think about it - you get iPhones this week and we have to wait another 4/5months !! Surely us Europeans should get a break and get our macbookpro's quicker ... its only fair :D

I swear to god, If that happens I'll be stalking you and I will kidnap your youngest child for ransom for your sweet oohhh so sweet computer.

Well, I was good luck for ya'll, cuz now you don't get a 4-6 week delay for the 7200rpm option, it stays at 5-7 days! Coolio for ya'll! Oh well for me, I'm having fun and so far I haven't noticed anything being slow.

So they should start shipping any day! Yahoo!

LuvAussies bringer of good news :D

Why do I have to be in the UK:

The store is not updated as soon as things happen

I have to put up with the old apple site and the US one is so nice

and if that weren't enough I have to wait to buy my lovely iPhone.

They probably won't do anything till after the weekend now.

I had ordered the MBP 15/2.4 with the 7200 drive on June 6, and my ship date was July 19. I had initially ordered it with the 4GB of RAM, but changed my mind this past Friday after reading various posts on the board. When I called to see about going to 2GB, they told me I would fall to the back of the queue and be looking at an August ship date. I ended up just canceling the order.

Now I go in and order a MBP 15/2.4/7200 with 2GB, and my ship date is July 2. Strange turn of events.

It is encouraging...we'll all have our new MBPs soon. :)

Are you serious? I ordered my MBP 15/2.4/7200 on June 16th and my ship day still says July 31st!

I have been on the phone with Apple 5 times in the past 24 hours on this issue, and all they say is that when they themselves go to make an order, as soon as they confirm the order, the ship day goes back to the 4-6 weeks.

Basically, they say that the 5-7 days is an error on their website!

Well US site still shows 5-7 Days

UK site still shows 4-6 weeks

So there must be a mistake some where.

Bloody hell. Just when I was starting to get happy. How the hell did that error come up?

I called Apple as well. I said I was inquiring about my order status because of the discrepancy between a newly placed order for the same config (5-7 days) and my est shipping date (july 20th). At first he didn't seem to understand and said something about high demand for the MPB. I re-explained and then he put me on hold to check. He came back to say that the current Apple store estimates are accurate and that my ship date will update and not to re-order as that will set me back in the queue. He didn't seem to know anything about the 7200 drives. I then asked if the shipping date actually gets updated or will I just get notification when it ships (as others have reported). He then put me on hold to check again and came back with no answer and just said that he'll change my shipping to overnight for no charge so I'll get it faster and sorry for the discrepancy. I just said ok and didn't ask anymore questions cause I got the feeling he was somewhat clueless. I didn't really understand the rationale for changing my shipping type but I'm not complaining. So who knows? I guess we'll wait and see. Anyone else want to call and see what they say?

Indeed, the Canadian store is also showing a 5-7 day delivery timeframe. So if you were to cancel and reorder, you'd get it shipped by July 2nd vs July 26th... However, the Apple Manager I spoke to (James) told me that their queuing system is FIFO, First In First Out, so anyone ordering today would not get it faster than someone who ordered previously. I don't know how accurate it is, but I know for a fact that Apple does not update the shipping dates once the order is accepted. So I am hoping that the poor folks (like me) who have ordered previously would get their MBP sooner. So keep a close eye on your Inbox.

My two cents.

Thanks to everyone for their input. It is nice and therapeutic knowing that you are not alone.

Daze

Okay...so good news.... Doom to the one who brings me bad news next!

Since I have probably never been accused of being the biggest optimist in the world, I have decided to be patient and wait until tomorrow before I call Apple, (assuming the shipping dates still show 5-7 days). My shipping date of course still says July 18 and I ordered on the first day they were available, but not until the afternoon. I would be ecstatic if they actually started shipping next week, at least we would see light at the end of the tunnel. This will be my first Mac and I am pretty nervous at this point. I hope this excruciating wait is going to pay off and I will end up with a computer that works well. Anyway my hope is that we all get a pleasant surprise this week and our computers start shipping! And I do agree that it helps knowing that I am not alone.

I just checked my email (after being away form a PC and internet all weekend) because I read that email confirmation will be sent before the shipping date changes and apple now have the 7200 HDs.

I opened my inbox to see an email from apple!!, all excited I opened the email, the window pops open and slowly loads (windows machine)...... to find.......... an advert for the new MBP!!!! its like they are teasing me! - why send an advert to a customer who has already ordered the Laptop?!! the cheeky buggers!:)

They most certainly are teasing us, but really that is just cold!!!

I was thinking that Apple probably has a fairly large queue of people waiting for their 15" MPB with 7200rpm drive. That may mean that since if you order today and the estimate is 5-7 days, then for those of us that ordered at release or soon after could see them shipped starting this week. Maybe you guys assumed that already but now I'm getting very excited.

I got emails about all the awesome stuff I can do with iLife... teasing indeed!

Sounds great to me ! Do you have a shipping date ?

EDIT : Ignore that i was imagining you had just ordered and it said 5-7days. Wishful thinking :)
