I got the matte and I love it! If you haven't looked at the glossy in person, I'd recommend it. It had nice bright colors but a lot of glare and it was just so shiny!

To all the remaining people holding out for that 7200 RPM drive, I'm right there with you. Don't give up! It will come, it will be awesome!

I ordered mine on the 6th. Didn't think much of the 4 to 6 week wait at the time.

We need to stick together! Together we are strong!

More power to ya! I am weak, what can I say! In the meantime I'm having fun! ;) Very happy with my machine, haven't found a thing wrong with it!

LuvAussies, how could you? you've betrayed our support group! haha. anyway hope you enjoy yours. I'm going to be doing a lot of video and photo editing on mine, so i think the 7200rpm should definitely be worth the wait. And i'm still hoping that the shipping date will be bumped forward. But if you're anything like the majority of users who will use it 99% of the time for nothing too demanding of a faster HD you probably won't even notice a difference.

about the screen, i prefer the matte for my photo work. i think i'm too easily distracted by the reflections of the glossy. And has anyone else noticed how atrocious the lighting is at the macstores? it really hurts the glossy displays i think.

I was at an Apple store today, I will admit that it was very tempting to just walk out with one. But the people at the Apple store said that the faster drive was worth it. I do a lot of photo and video work and want to eliminate as many bottlenecks as possible.

LuvAussies, have fun. I'm all jealous.

Why not? I did exactly that with my MBP for three weeks while my actual work desktop had a failure (don't remember what it was).
:(

some people just don't like the shine. Its personal choice. For me the glossy looks better when looking at photos watching videos but im not to keen coding on it.

I ordered the matte, put its personal preference. The colors do look more saturated on the glossy ones, just not my thing.

Its down to what your using it for, if you need true color representation (professional photo editing etc) then get the matte. If your using as a family computer then the glossy is good as everything looks so nice.

This is an urban legend. You can simulate a smaller color gamut in a bigger one, so it's always better to get the biggest color gamut device. With proper color profiling high-end apps like Photoshop take care of the simulation of less saturated colors.

I stand corrected.

Well I'm done waiting dammit. I walked into an apple store here in Honolulu today and picked up a stock 15 incher. When my upgraded one shows up I'm just returning this one under the 30 days no questions asked policy.

I'd recommend the rest of you do the same.

Sounds interesting, but I didn't understand much of it. Are you suggesting I can "tweak down" the color gamut on a glosssy screen to get "true color" like the matte screen? Can you describe a "smaller color gamut" in terms of the color profiling UI?

The sad thing for me is July 18th is still three plus weeks out, and I ordered Jun 5, 2007 at 05:47 AM PDT. Still seems like four weeks to me.

It was an act of desperation!! A cry for help!

It's a sweet machine, I love it! I do a lot of photo stuff, and some video, but if this gives me trouble, even with an external drive, I have my dual G5 with 4.5G of RAM that is quite the video monster! I was going to sell it, but I don't know if I can part with it!

I've decided the delay is actually good for me. I'm going to be a big Bootcamper, and the delay gives me time to get all my resources in order. I went to the local Apple store last night to compare the matte vs. glossy. I've always wanted a glossy, as I envy my wife's glossy Dell so much. Plus, I think dust does not show up as much on glossy as on matte. Plus, I called Apple and asked if switching to matte will set my order back in the queue: it will.

Yeah, the delay is good for me. That's the ticket!

I started buying accessories to help pass the time. The waiting sucks but I'm going to hang in there. I just ordered a Samsung 500GB SATA HD and a very nice usb/fw800/esata enclosure from OWC. I also got a DVI->HDMI cable to hook up to my plasma. I still need an external monitor, bluetooth keyboard, and stand but it's going to start to get pricey. Also, even though I will be new to Macs, I have been using OSX86 on my Asus laptop (dual booting with XP) so I'll continue to play around and explore my software options until I get my real mac. I actually have only rarely booted into XP over the last month!

Upgrade in progress

So my Seagate 7200rpm SATA 160GB drive and 4GB upgrade kit arrived this morning from OWC. The install was interesting, but it works and my machine looks and works fine.

I had two problems with the install. One of the screws I had to remove was very stubborn. I pretty much stripped the head of it and I had to use a dremel to cut a grove straight across the head that I could use with a larger flathead screwdriver.

After that, I ran into the next stumbling block. The "top cover" (keyboard and trackpad) didn't "work itself loose" like in the instructions on ExtremeTech. Apple has apparently installed some plastic "snaps" that hold the thing in place. It sounded like I was breaking the thing as each snap released, but nothing broke.

The only other difference was that the two screws holding the hard drive in were Torx screws instead of Phillips. Other than that, it went well. Took a while to get the snaps to snap back when putting the cover on though.

In the process now of installing Tiger onto the new drive. I ran XBench on the old drive and will run on the new one too so people can see what the performance improvement is.

I also took photos of the whole process. I'll post those later as well. Can't wait to actually start using this machine! (And get off the PC I'm writing this with)

That's what I was doing too! I decided it was much much cheaper to just buy one now and not wait! ;) Not to mention that I'm more productive at work again! (not constantly reloading my order status and this forum!)

Well, I joined the queue.
I ordered at a belgian reseller. Let's see how it goes. It was the first one they ordered with the 7200 drive, so as soon as one comes in, it should be mine :D.
