10:30am on Friday it is!

So I've been lurking for a while and finally jumped in - regardless of all the bad vibes I've been getting about the new MBP - mine should be arriving (2.4 w/7200RM drive) this Friday! (In transit out of Shanghai as of this morning)

I'll be stepping up from my previous top of the line (when I bought it) - Powerbook Ti (667MHz) - still allows me to run MacOS 9!

Can't wait!

Ditto on 10:30 Fri. AM :apple: delivery. I guess I'm going to go to work a little later that day. Time to start prepping for the migration.

[update] Arrrgh... I just realized that my delivery coincides with the iPhone launch. After work, I was planning to run to the nearest apple store (30 mins away) to get my accessories, but now that might not be such a smart idea.

Not one for the UK but here's one that started shipping to Holland YEAH!:D

Ordered Jun 12, 2007, 11:48 AM GMT, arrives Jul 06... But still, that's a lot sooner than Aug 2!

I think its ridiculous that people who ordered their laptops almost a week after me are already about to get theirs. I'm really tempted to call Apple up and ask for an explanation.

I agree! don't get me wrong I'm glad they are starting to ship, but its the principle. First come first serve has clearly gone out of the window for apple!

Maybe it's because you ordered a 2.2ghz? Aren't most of the shipped ones 2.4ghz? They shipped the 17" models before the 15" ones, didn't they?
Still, it's not really fair...

no, mine is a 2.4ghz 7200rpm HD, There are people that have the same spec as mine who ordered 1 two weeks after and have theirs shipping, so my point is very fair - its just a shame that apples policy is not....

P.s: this was not a dig at your post, i'm just a little P*ssed

I tried that yesterday and guess what? They couldn't answer with anything other than to say the 7200 were still on backorder (which we know isn't the case). And actually some of these people ordered almost two weeks after us. I hope if you do call Apple that they are more helpful for you than they were for me. Maybe mine is so much later because I live in the wilds of Idaho? Who knows, but I don't think that it is actually fair. Sorry, I am just frustrated.

I upgraded my SR 15" to the 160 GB 7200 RPM Seagate a few weeks ago. Now, it's already out of date:

I just ordered the Hitachi 7K200, which is finally available to customers other than Dell. Transintl. and OWC both have them in stock (the former is a bit cheaper and doesn't price-gouge like the later on new technology).

The Hitachi seems to trump the Seagate in most tests. Here's a user on Apple's Discussion Forums that also ran benchmarks:

When I called yesterday and asked specifically about whether they filled orders on a first come, first serve basis but they pretty well evaded that inquiry all together. I just couldn't pin them down about it even though I asked several times. I am waiting once again for my 2.4, 7200 matte screen MBP. I guess the other thing that is frustrating me is that I know that there is a holiday coming up here in the US and that the iPhone ships Friday, what is that going to do to our orders? I hope ours ship by Thursday at the latest, but I am not holding my breath.

yeah, from what I have gathered from calling apple, the people on the end of the line have the normal spiel to real off and a list of set answers, "there is a delay on the 7200rpm HD there is a 3-4 week lead time" (he read this from my order) cos at the time it was 4-6 weeks - its a waste of time calling apple about when its going to be delivered becuase they cannot give you a straight answer

It really is odd that Apple seems to be shipping in a 'wherever the dart hits the board' style. The only thing I can think of are location or payment issues.

Are they only shipping to certain countries and holding others at this point? Or is it perhaps that they are shipping based on a payment basis. Are those that are still waiting for shipment have the holds on their cards by Apple yet? Or have you been charged already as well?

I ordered mine on the 6th and I'm glad it's shipping, but I must say I feel for those who have placed early orders and are being shortchanged.

On a different note, the new 200 GB 7200 RPM drive looks sweet indeed. It almost makes me feel foolish for waiting all this time for the 160 GB drive... almost.
As nice as it would be to swap in that drive, I'm not sure I'd risk the loss of warranty. Perhaps sometime later when the wallet has recovered from this purchase and I know it's free from they typical defects I'll pick up one of these drives to swap in as the main and hook the 160 GB up to an enclosure and keep it for a tiny back up drive... That would come in quite handy for Leopard

There is no activity on my credit card for the MBP (also have bought a mighty mouse on this card) mighty mouse has arrived and waiting. I think the shipping seems to be based on location as far as I can tell but I'm sure UK orders have started to ship so I am uncertain about that too? very strange... am i right in thinking the email confirmation comes first or is it the credit card payment?

Well all I can answer to that is that they had no trouble taking my money for the AppleCare, printer and iPod that was all on the same order and I live in the US, even if it is off the beaten path. I promise to quit grousing though at least for a little while.;)

Nope, 2.2's are shipping (see sig for config, no extra software or stuffies). ordered they day of the annoucement...

Thats the same config I have... Maybe I'll have an update in the next few days? The 2.2s are probably selling more than the 2.4 15".
