Keep in mind that it's 5:30am in Shanghai right now. I doubt they're working 24 hours to process these orders, and even if they are, it won't go out the door until FedEx starts picking up deliveries in a few hours.
why do i have a feeling that "prepared for shipping" just means that some guy in a shanghai warehouse is just sitting back in his chair, looking at all the MBP boxes while chewing on a sandwich...

No, I think you're probably right - however there is a very important implication to that, which is that the MBP must have been assembled and put in a box in the first place, such that the warehouse dude can be sat in a chair looking at it.
So it should probably just say "it's in a box", but that's still a lot better than "it's in bits, some of which are in different continents", which is what "not yet shipped" might as well mean.
Anyway he might not be eating a sandwich. He could be enjoying some nice noodles, or a pork dumpling...

still "prepared for shipment." yeah, i think something that apple has overlooked is the fact that i really want my new computer right now. it's funny how much more impatient i am now than when i thought it wouldn't ship until late july. and the dim display and loud, almost constantly-running fans on my powerbook have suddenly become twice as annoying. it's been nice commiserating with you all, but i'm looking forward to this thread soon being obsolete when we all have our marvelous new mbps.

It's 8:46am in Shanghai. FedEx should be arriving at the factory soon. I'd expect to see a lot of orders advance to "shipped' in the next few hours.
I sure hope so.. considering some people's already shipped, and my status changed like an hour after them.

at least you guys can check your status hourly. i have to call for my order status because i placed it over the phone. hard to do at work. and i cant check my credit card, cause i paid for it two weeks ago in cash (at a "7-11" no less; do you know how strange it feels to hand over that much money to a convenience store to pay for your mac? go,go japan)
I'm trying, I'm trying! However, I will once again point out that I ordered mine on the first day they came out (the 5th) and people that ordered almost two weeks later have already had their's shipped. I thinks as a consolation for our wait that we should be guaranteed no yellow tint, no kernal panics, no flickering screens, right? It will definitely be worth the wait if they have worked out some of the kinks. Oh well, tomorrow is another day and maybe the rest of us will have encouraging news. By the way just because some of you receive yours and are having fun with them don't forget us other poor souls, at least make sure you tell us it is worth the wait.

Just remember, it's only 10:40 AM in China. There's most of the day left for something to happen!
Why's that? If you have an order number and a destination postcode you can check the status online?
Maybe they are filling up pallets of MBP's for shipment to the different hubs around the world? Would make sense. Then a local distribution center can unpack the pallet and deliver the individual machines.

YAY! My MacBook Pro 15" 7200rpm just shipped! I got a shipping conformation at 2:56 this morning. I'm super happy it didn't take until July 18th like it said it was going to ship on!
Now I just have to wait on Friday to order the iPhone at 6. I hope there isn't a super long delay in shipping for it!
