This is unbelievable. I can't get any work done.

Is there a way to downgrade to 12.2.1 without TimeMachine copy/restore from scratch?

Going to try overinstalling 12.2.1 on 12.3

Same here with 3rd party Radeon RX 6900 XT.
Updated to 12.3 from 12.2.1 in my Mac Pro (2019)
All my Adobe video software (PP and AE) became so laggy that it was unusable.

Video and graphic issues were everywhere, Quicktime, preview,
even the desktop picture (Monterey default) was showing squares
with single colours, super weird.

Did a lot of trouble shooting, could not fixed it.
Did a clean install of Monterrey 12.3, same issue.

Went back to 12.2.1 and everything is working perfectly again.

Yeah, same here I have a 6900 xt and now all of a sudden anything graphic intensive does not work. I just updated to latest.

At first I thought my GPU was dying so I switched to bootcamp and all was fine. It seems the issue is that the gpu is not being initialized.

I reinstalled 12.2.1 and restored from a TimeMachine backup from 2 days ago (the latest ones gave me an error about it being too new to restore).

All is well now.

Thanks a lot Apple for wasting our time. Really triggers me that they don't do tests on products they still sell.

I accidentally updated my Hackintosh to 12.3 and when I was finally able to get it booted, my 6900 XT slowed my PC to a *crawl*. Opening Streamlabs Desktop and my Elgato capture card went live and suddenly my entire system just lagged so hard that I had to force quit Streamlabs. I finally got it reverted to 12.2.1 and all is well, but that was two days of chaos trying to download and restore to the older version...

I tried doing that - 12.2.1 will refuse to install over 12.3 since the drive has a newer version of macOS installed. You'll have to wipe the drive and restore from Time Machine, alas. Even then, it still balked at me since my Time Machine back up was from 12.3 (my last update was from three weeks ago) and while everything works fine, don't surprised if there's a little wonkiness...

I think it's possible to boot to a USB installer then select a 12.3 container as the target destination to "downgrade" macOS.

Of course, there is no guarantee any OS can be downgraded via this way. Some database / library file may be updated once boot to 12.3 desktop, and unable to function correctly in 12.2.1

Same issue here. 6800 XT. Astounding how Apple could release regressions like this. No choice but to wait for .1 release hoping they fix this.

This issue doesn't seem to affect Apple's MPX based GPUs at all.
After I looked this up it seems MPX means the versions intended for the Mac Pro tower. What about this series in the Macbook Pro, such as the Radeon Pro 5500M? I haven't seen this mentioned yet.

Ahh, I should have tried this - I wonder if it works?

W5700X and a 6900XT here, performance was awful in DaVinci Resolve under 12.3. After a day or two struggling I rolled back.

I just cloned my boot drive to an external with SuperDuper, installed fresh 12.2.1 from a bootable USB and then used migration assistant. Wasn't too bad, was up and running pretty quickly

That doesn't work, I tried to do that. It gave an error saying you can't downgrade.

So what I did was just boot with CMD+R recovery mode and wipe the Apple SSD and then formatted as APFS then reboot with a USB installer I made previously that had 12.2.1 and then installed 12.2.1, then restored with the Time Machine backup during the Migration Assistant mode (but I had to go back 2 days because it gave an error about 12.3 as well there, so had to use a 12.2.1 Time Machine backup)

So also the MPX W5700X is affected?

No issues for me here. I would say it even works better in 12.3 - lower temps when connecting to external monitor without a need to set to "low power mode". Benchmark results align with what is on Geekbench page.

I have RX 6800. I've installed 12.3 and same thing.. The overall experience of using the OS feels a lot slower. Things like resizing windows, scrolling through album artwork in Music and even typing this message (could be unrelated) are lagging.

I regret not reading this thread before update.

the funny thing is that the Hackintosh people already found a solution before Apple : )

That's pretty much what I did too! Effectively the same thing. I'm glad you were able to roll back! I'm a little concerned we haven't seen an update yet.

No way. That's good to hear. I've not upgraded to Monterey at all yet, but have been quite frustrated and almost ready to trade in my 16" MBP because it overheats/throttles whenever plugged into my 4k monitor. (sensor on the side of the TB plug goes crazy) I was about to trade it in for a newer model but this is good news. I don't even know about "low power mode"!

Same here. I had dual reference 6800 XTs and after the update to 12.3, everything was unusable. playing back 4K video was stupid slow. I put my 5700 MPX back in with one of the 6800 xt, and 4k video would play smoothing from the monitor attached to the MPX, but not the 6800 XT monitor. This is completely ridiculous. I will have to use just the MPX module until Apple fixes this.

Wow. I am always at the end of episode as usual. Did not see this warning or won't update 12.3. Now look at my case that I just post on apple forum (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/253757468?page=1)

I really don't believe rumours and speculations but I think this is really happening to me as well.

Is macOS Monterey 12.3 really trying to slow down my GPUs Performance ?
or because of the OS update GB5 need to make some updates as well in their app ?

I am using 2 x W6800X Duo and RX 6900XT as eGPU. RX6900XT is really help full and great to use along with my W6800X Duos.

1abb02c2-7e77-4de3-b876-e45f558b1afd

I test my GPU performance like other with Geekbench 5 occasionally and it is recorded in my Geekbench Profile.

I bought the Sapphire RX 6900 XT SE and planned to use with Mac Pro when I bought. But measurement was a bit off so ended in eGPU since then.

This is the fastest score I have ever got over eGPU with iMac.

9bfe84d9-d46f-4c33-b63f-932293e3a9c9

Sold the iMac later and bought Mac Pro 2019 with W5700X. But RX 6900XT is still in eGPU but drop the performance with newer macOS.

4b601236-779b-45f9-a503-b730f8a8d489

Then upgraded to 12.2

cd485178-ba7c-4b6d-9fc8-8104a265f025

Now . . . I just upgraded to macOS Monterey 12.3 because of Blender statement (https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/render/cycles/gpu_rendering.html)

d221c7f9-dae9-4b8b-964b-ffc84b1e930c

But after upgraded to 12.3 my RX 6900 XT performance is dropping to the ground. I thought something wrong with my upgrade. So I erased and reinstalled and this is my 3 times already and getting same result.

Please take a look how much it dropped with 12.3

d83677d9-0053-432f-a976-c4b474840e7b

If there is no option then can you please point me to get get Apple Official macOS 12.2 DMG file to download ?

Same for me. I have a Mac Pro 2019 with w6800x and a 6900XT installed. When i connect the 6900XT to my Monitors the performance is more than 50% worse than it was with MacOs 12.2.1. But when my 2 Monitors are connected to the w6800x the performance is normal.

Guys keep submitting this issue with Feedback Assistant in macOS and calling Apple. We have many hands here and it will most likely be resolved faster if we gang up on Apple.

In the past Apple has personally contacted me for issues so they do listen.
