But takes a drubbing in the mobile phone division, that is all that matters. Actually what matters is Apple is headed toward the trillion dollar club.

There is no irony to be lost, you are making up stuff to reach a conclusion based on an opinion.

The shareholders wouldn't be happy unless the customers were happy. And the customers voted with their wallets.
Im not making anything up. How long has it taken Apple to implement an OLED display? Wireless charging? Fast charging? These are things that my Samsung phones have had for a few years now, this is a cold hard fact. Apple are the masters of holding back technology to maximise profit, they can get away with it due to the ecosystem which makes it hard for people to leave. They also sell alot due to the Apple name alone.

Shareholders are happy as long as the company is making a profit and the shareprice is going up. I never said there were not alot of people buying Apple products, its obvious there are, but it does not always mean the products they release are the best. It just means Apple provides an ecosystem that people love or even sometimes get trapped in.

Anyway im not going to argue anymore. I buy my tech based on facts and reviews, ecosystems don't influence my decisions as i make an effort to not get locked down. I buy what is best at the time, if its an Apple product ill buy it, if its Samsung, ill buy that. Simple really.

Because Apple has not released certain updates on your schedule doesn't mean they are holding back. And oled has its own share of tech issues and maybe Apple was waiting to see if these issues were smoothed out. Micro led hopefully will render all of this moot. Apple doesn't throw hardware in a phone only to take it out later. every feature implemented is fully supported on future flagships and the implementation is thought out. And as an aside Just because Samsung throws hardware around doesn't mean they are the best.

Anyway thanks for the civil discussion. The "butt hurt" comment did leave me laughing however.

The thing is regardless if Apple are "holding back" or not its the slower implementation that allows Apple to maximise profit. If Apple were pushing the envelope they would have to take a cut in profits as cutting edge technology is not cheap. Its cheaper for Apple to use LCD panels rather then OLED for instance. As a consumer im getting the latest tech with a Samsung phone, im getting better bang for my buck.

Samsung has not removed OLED displays, wireless charging or quick charging since the inception of the technologies. All 3 work incredibly well.

At the end of the day you should buy what best suits your needs, if Apple fits that bill for you then great, go for it.

There is nothing wrong with maximizing profit; it's the fiduciary responsibility of the CEO to do that. But your judgement is that Apple is doing that at the expense of innovation, which I disagree with. If you look back at their past successes starting with the iPod they didn't invent any of the underlying technology, they didn't even invent the underlying tech on the AirPods.

Samsung may not have removed oled, but they sure as heck removed other hardware and If you feel Samsung gives you the best bang for the buck I'm happy you feel that way, but that is not
my opinion.

You're wasting your time....no matter how many times you prove his stance wrong or show how ridiculous it is...the stances changes. Hyperbole! There is no reasoning or logic with him. Most of us just sit back and laugh among ourselves. Some were harping sales sales sales then when Samsung overtook them in sales......then it became profits profits profits...then when that was taken away. It became trillion dollar club......it is funny to watch how the focus changes. Apple apologists are fun to watch :)
Hey! Remember when Global Market Share was a thing with Apple fans? Heck remember when App Downloads and number of apps in the App Stores were a thing?
There was even a time when PPI was a thing when the "Retina Display" arrived, then Androids blew right past rapidly, we now have Androids with display PPIs of +800PPI, suddenly PPI did not matter. afterwards.

Forever moving the yardstick, it's what they do best!

It's actually interesting the arguments that are made by them, and then they change when Apple change.

Lol, here's a classic one, remember how a 3.5inch Display was all that was needed!!!??? How anything bigger was too much? What screen size does the smallest current iPhone, iPhone SE, use!?

Good times.

Moving the goalposts is exactly what Apple fans do. They do it to suit the current argument, and when you disprove that they move them again. No point arguing with them i guess.

You didn't point out clear examples, you pointed out assumptions and based a conclusion on that assumption. I've pointed out apple brings products to market as it sees fit, not when an internet poster thinks they should. That doesn't equate to holding back products with maximum profits as the goal. The corollary is erroneous thinking about profits are first and foremost king with customers secondary. Talk about goalposts moving.

When a cogent argument fails insults are always the way to go. Gotcha. Have a nice day.
I pointed out 3 pieces of tech that Apple have not implemented yet, one of them being the OLED screen which is considerably more expensive to produce then a LCD panel. Naturally this will lead to a larger profit margin for Apple. You then told me i didn't point out any clear examples. As the old saying goes, don't argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. This conversation is now over.

Simple case of observational bias at work here. Nothing more nothing less. Your entire argument is based on profits first customers second. That's not how Apple rolls. And if you havent noticed Apple is not shy about raising prices based on the rumors of price for the next iPhone, so this has nothing to do with profit motivation.

Thats exactly how Apple rolls. Its all about profits. You only need to look at the features on the iPhone 8 and on the S8 and look at the price difference to find out.

Apple is offering lesser features on the iPhone 8 as compared to Galaxy

Your right customers first, profits second. Next iPhone though will be a better phone overall than the s8. That's how Apple rolls.

Hold on a second kids, you do know Apple made $11B last quarter (compared to Samsungs $6B) and $20B before that, right? Samsung made more money in the quarter that they released their brand new flagship (S8/S8 Plus) while Apple didn't release anything? I'm sorry, but this just makes you look like a clown. You obviously have zero clue about how product releases and earnings work. Anyways, enjoy.

FYI I always thought it was silly to use profits as an argument from the customer side. It's good to see a company continue to operate good financially, but I don't see how it's a benefit to me if the company makes more money off of me.

I suggest you read the article more closely ;) Here a hint, the increase in profit did not come from the S8/S8 plus as I7guy pointed out a few times. So who is the clown now?

Please explain where anything I said is not in line with what the article said.
"Samsung’s projected record-breaking figure comes mainly from its semiconductor business"

You tried to imply the reason Samsung made more profit in that quarter was due to the S8 release which is incorrect, the majority (more then half) of Samsungs profit comes from the semiconductor division.

Fair enough, although it still was due to Samsung releasing/supplying a bunch of new products last quarter. The rest of my points still stand.

Look im really not here to argue, i just feel the need to say something when Samsung constantly get bagged. They are on an upwards trajectory and are doing pretty well these days. Im well aware that Apple will more then likely make way more profit next quarter. Also when the iPhone 8 comes out and you are all loving that OLED display just remember who you can thank for that, also the new design with next to no bezel. Without some of these Android phones pushing the envelope, Apple would still have a 4" LCD panel on their phones.

This topic serves no purpose beyond fueling arguments. What’s the point? Why do we care what huge number is bigger than the other huge number?

Well to be honest Samsung sells more phones than Apple does. Then Apple sells more than just phones too.
Then to be more specific there is one poster that hangs out here in the alternative section that ALWAYS brags about Apple's profits....... so now that point is moot.
But profits are profits......investors and the like care about the bottom line.
Apple has more cash reserves than anyone else I believe...so they are not hurting by any means.
