I might just have to get the unlocked Note 10+. I will trade in my Pixel 3XL (can still get the P4 Xl in Oct :))
Out of pocket will be about $550

Eleven hundred bucks for the 256gb 4g unlocked rainbow... Ugh. o_O Tough call. I bet the pixel 4 XL is going to be close to that...

Didn't even bother looking at 5g, I think it's a moot point right now especially when devices can barely work in some areas as it is, but that's another thread :)

The price is not as horrible as I thought, but SD card slot gone? Headphone jack gone? Value software I can't get rid of. Granted this doesn't make the device unusable, it's just personal preference.

I don't know. My s7e is very long in the tooth and could use an upgrade...
In comparison the Pixel 4 will not have a SD Card or headphone jack either. It will probably be about the same price.
Pros and cons to both phones. The Note 10 will have more features for sure...but the Pixel line is just so damn good at what it does....

I need to see the display on the Note 10, quite a difference from what I have lived with on prior Samsung phones so I am a doubting Thomas.

Yeah that's what I was getting at, I do have my fill of pixels. And there is always a OnePlus to mess around with also. I didn't make this post to dis the note 10+ just more or less out loud brain dump :)

I think for the Note 10+ the SD card slot is still there. Just not for the smaller model.

I saw over on Android Central the Pixel 4 and 4XL are going to have the 90hz displays and 6GB of RAM. Sweet! I’m not going to really think about that now though. If I do that upgrade it won’t be until winter going into spring...that time frame will put me at a full year of ownership for my 3XL. I’m also going to look for big discounts.

This Note upgrade...well honestly I put no thought into it. I didn’t pay any attention to any of the rumors until recently. I liked what I saw and decided I was going to jump back on for the S Pen. It was a no brainer. Financially, though, it means I’m going to have to skip the S11’s and keep committed for a full year.

I’m now back on the Note upgrade path like I’ve wanted to do for awhile now. It was finally the right time. I suppose I’m giving up my S10 a bit prematurely but I am okay eating the cost of that to get the zoom audio and all the other goodies.

Pre-order the phone now and when does it ship? I'm on the fence...

If I'm reading things right, if I don't pre order and decided I want the phone after launch, it'll cost an extra 150?

I can't understand why it is that last year we had the P20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro and this year the P30 Pro and soon to be Mate 30 Pro with great night modes and zoom, yet Samsung haven't done anything in that regard, other than a new night mode!

I could maybe understand them not doing much last year but I did think that the S10 or at least the Note 10 would have a better zoom range and have more camera upgrades, but it's the same sensor from 2-3 years ago and hardly any upgrade in that department.

Huawei will slaughter then further with the Mate 30 Pro.

Ice Universe made an interesting comment that might have been a joke.

Let me see if I can get the link to work:

“I have never heard of any news about the Note10 series using a 90Hz screen. I suspect that there is a spy in the Samsung leadership. He prevented these good technologies from being used in flagship phones and cutting off some radical projects.”

Sorry I can’t get the code embedded properly. Anyway while he’s talking about the screen technology it would probably apply to the cameras as well. If he’s serious. Which I doubt. I think they just got caught by surprise and didn’t have time to spiff up the Note series either.

I think it is supposed to be in our hands by 8/23 if we pre order....

sorry...didn't mean to be defensive...was kinda trying to convince myself to make the jump as well ;)

Yeah I think it was August 23. This time I have a prayer of getting mine on time because my husband isn’t getting one.

Not sure how they got caught by surprise, Huawei had superior zooms and night modes last year so they had plenty of time to plan ahead?

I wonder if they will sort it out next year? They aren't innovating enough these days and it's going to hit them hard in sales I think.

I've already seen plenty of die hard note users saying they wont be upgrading this year, has to be a concern for Samsung.

I expect a 90hz screen, minimum of 5x zoom and big camera updates next year otherwise I think they'll be in trouble.
[doublepost=1565218006][/doublepost]I really wanted the Note 10, I'm not too worried about screens but for me battery and camera are the main things now. Camera is one of the most important things for people on a phone now I think.

Therefore, maybe I'll go for Mate 30 Pro.

On the Pixel thread someone pointed out that the 90hz screen was going to strain the battery capacity slated for the 4 and 4XL. Already we are dealing with massive sized displays on the Note 10+ especially. They might be waiting a year to see how the battery tech can advance so they can handle a large display that refreshes that fast.

I think they probably devoted most of their engineering resources on The Fold.

I’ve got no answers about the zooms. I think they have been looking too much at Apple and Google’s slow pace in that direction and didn’t monitor Huawei enough. The sample photos I’ve seen from the P30 Pro haven’t been super impressive on regular photos. Actually my husband’s P20 Pro seems to do better. Maybe there are some trade offs Huawei made for their super zooms that Samsung and the other players haven’t been willing to make.

I did have an unlocked 10+ 256gb rainbow all set up ready to reserve and, I closed the page. The more I thought about it, the less it made sense.

1100 bucks to do pretty much the same basic tasks I do now, with extra stuff on top that I won't use. Sure, it's a great looking device, did have the SD card slot (the 10+) but I just couldn't do it. At least at this time. Not to say I won't get a wild hair and go for it anyway at a later time...

I'm still I guess just burnt out on smart phones. Not only that, the way I'm inclined to tinker, this is really not the device for me. :(

No way would I spend this kind of money on a phone, looks nice though.

I'm going to hold on to my 12gb 1tb Ceramic S10+, and just get the upcoming iPhone 11 instead of the Note 10.

Besides the Camera upgrade and S-Pen, there's not much reason for me to get the Note 10, even with the trade in.

I'll wait until the S11+.

IMHO ..... I think it's time Samsung gets rid of the S line, and just goes the Note route. With two Flagship upgrades a year, Samsung seems to be saturating themselves, and especially since prices are near or above the 1k in price.

It's not like back in the days anymore, when I used to buy phones like they were crack. Even though I can more than afford it, nowadays I start to get buyer's remorse at these prices. It's one of the reasons I never bought the iPhone X or XS.

I’m with some of you guys. I was ready to put in the preorder but once I saw MKBHD’s overview and obvious disappoint with Bixby, lack of headphone jack and lack of non 90-120hz. I started questioning myself. Like has been mentioned we are burnt out on smartphones and the lack of sizeable progression. Until there is something more revolutionary like the Galaxy Fold or better, I’m taking a break from android phones (other than my Pixel 2XL).

Looks like Best Buy will do $600 trade in even for carrier models.

Is there any advantage of having an unlocked model on At&t? I need wifi calling, and it works on my unlocked Pixel 3 and Essential Phone, but I heard it doesnt with Samsung?

I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade but what about this phone is exciting?

It's probably the best phone you can buy, has top of the line specs, and everything you would need other than maybe a headphone jack...but I just don't see anything that's new or exciting. Maybe that's just the state of phones right now. Nothinf really new right now and honestly not much separating flagship from mid tier offerings.

Looks like a very nice iteration for Note fans. I personally am not a fan of Samsung’s design (hardware or software) so this really does nothing to sway me from my previous opinions of Galaxy or Note devices. I can certainly appreciate how jammed packed the Note is feature-wise (well, at least the Note+. Comparatively skimping on the smaller models feels like a page out of Apple’s old playbook), but I just don’t find so many of the ancillary features appealing as I really wouldn’t use most of them, especially anything tied to using Samsung apps and services.

On my Android devices I want simple integration with Google’s services and if it’s not a Pixel, I want the OEM to generally get out of the way. I like my Pixel 3XL quite a bit. It’s not the best piece of hardware on the market but it hits my key needs and wants. The only Android phone I would consider getting to replace my 3XL if probably the 4XL. Flat display with higher refresh rate, terrific camera, Google’s take on FaceID and their version of Android sounds just perfect to me.

That being said, I genuinely hope Note fans find this to be everything they’re hoping for in an upgrade.

Nah you’re not raining on any parades. At least not mine. I was keen on the zoom audio. It’s not a must have but I will also have fun with the AR stuff like animating some of the toys for little video clips. I did miss having an S Pen.

And I watch movies and shows mainly on my phones and not on my tv. I get really dizzy watching a full sized tv too much. So I’m looking forward to the huge display for that.

I think it’s a nice complement to my iPhone XR, which is what I really count on for communication and navigation. Basically Note 10+ is my dream portable entertainment center. My s10+ of course is also well suited to that. I’m just deciding this is the jumping off point I’m taking to get back on Notes. I think it was the zoom audio that really cemented my decision.

As for the price, well no I definitely wouldn’t be doing this if it were to cost me $1100 now. The trade in helps.

Agree with you about the Pixel models....My plan is to trade in my P3XL for $600 get the Note 10+. Then use it until the Pixel 4 drops in Oct and make a decision then.
The trade in value alone is worth it to me. I can't get $600 for my P3XL on the second hand market. That makes the Note 10+ about $550 for me.....can't go wrong at that price.

I wonder if the cameras are still going to drive you nuts. My husband isn’t too thrilled with Samsung cameras compared to his Pixel 3XL and his Huawei and even his XS Max. I’m really happy with them, myself.

I do prefer how an iPhone handles panning across a scene. Every Android I own makes a jerky mess of it.

But my Samsung phones going all the way back to the S7 and S7 Edge were fabulous for stereo audio. If this zoom audio feature doesn’t make a complete mess of sound and works like it’s supposed to, I will be in smartphone heaven. And I will weep over all the videos I shot of my babies without it.

I have struggled for years with audio on iPhones. It was such a revelation to hear such rich sound on my S7. The best I could get for an iPhone was via an external plug in stereo mic. That one focused sound pretty nicely but I had to carry it separately.
