Smartphone cameras still have a long ways to go.

Don't cheap out on cameras now. Remember that in 10-15 years you will be looking at these photos on wall sized 12k screens. Anything less then top notch is going to look like crap.

In 15 years I'll probably be dead, and besides a wall-sized TV doesn't appeal. Also, why would I be viewing photos I took 15 years ago on my TV? I would note them as being the correct quality for the tech of their time. I still have black & white prints from the 60s and 70s...

Very good point, not you being dead, but if I don’t my photos on big screens today, I doubt I will 15 years from now. It’s more about having good pics to share on social media.

I think he meant 15 years agao we didn't we would be looking at them on our phones like we do either. As technology gets better faster...cheaper things like 12K bigs screens will be the norm and people will have them everywhere.

I have a USB drive with about 50 of our favorite pics. Not really portraits mind you but more like pics of our family in memorable places we have been too. I use it for a rotating screen saver when our living room tv in dormant.
Never would have done that 15 years ago.....

I have two toddlers (3 and 14 months) so maybe I should stay away from Samsung phones. I’m also an annoying mum taking pictures and videos of everything.
I often take motion photos and can pick one a section to save that isn’t blurry. It's a bit more precise on an iPhone to pick what you want to save from a Live Photo, but that’s possible on the Samsung, too, but as a screen capture in motion photos.

I don't take these photos for myself. I'm not sure I'll be around 15 years from now, either. I love watching the old family movies my father-in-law and his brother took in the 60's I wish my dad had done the same.

Some of my earlier family digital photos were shot on a Sony Mavica. Good lord those look terrible to me now. I am glad I continued to use film in addition to my early digital camera. But I could kick myself for using my Intel camera to take photos of my eldest niece's wedding. That was almost a kid's toy. It was all plastic and so cheesy. But it was all I could afford at the time and we wanted digital photos we could easily share with her. I did use my film camera, too, thank goodness. Canon Elf or Elph. I can't remember which.

It is that niece's toddlers I am trying to photograph now. Good lord she has six kids. One is in college and one is in diapers. My nephews also have toddlers. I myself am now dealing with teens. They don't hold still very well, either.

What??? lol

They are in the same $1k plus range of all flagship smart phones yet lose their value faster then any other big brand. Especially when compared to Apple.

Where is the value?
Depreciating value on the sticker price is not a measure of true cost of ownership even in the US where Iphones tend to have healthier re-sale value

On a like for like basis especially when factoring trade in's and accessories and bundled services etc Samsung are the same if not cheaper for most than Iphone ownership even over 2 or 3 years

Most get amazing trade-ins $150-$275 worth of bundled goodies, free cases generous cloud storage etc etc with a Samsung and those that wait a little while get generous discounts etc opposed to the early adopters bundles

We all know how Apple stealthily gouge your wallet by added services and subscriptions and ECO hooks etc

Your just fooling yourself if you think an Iphone is cheaper because it devalues ~$200 less than others, you have to work a lot harder and cheap out to be on the same page

The google home hub can be set to display photos when you are not using it. 15 years ago it was all about physical photo albums.

I've not seen anyone on here or reviewers talk about the FPS. Is it the exact same as the S10 range or a newer version? I know lots had no problem using the S10 FPS but for me, it was the worst part of the phone. Far too inconsistent.

I think it’s the same. When I had the S10+, I had absolutely zero issues.

Btw what samsung is trying to do with dex (probably not there yet) is sth I was hoping several uears apple would eventualy do - one device that could be smartphone and my workstation (basic stuff, not 3d animation workstation:)). Unfortunately, apple is not doing that, apple wants to sell you 3 separate devices instead of one...

If you do that, definitely don't do a trade. You'll get $200-$300 more on Swappa or somewhere like that .

True, but then you don't get any of the other benefits I think like the $100 credits from Samsung and so on. But then again, you get cash. Hmmm. I already preordered it with trade in, but I can easily cancel that.

I have seen a LOT of people over the years post this exact same thing. Then later regret moving asway from their iPhone for one reason or another.
So if you are really immersed into the Apple eco-system....then maybe dip your toes in the Android waters a little so to speak at first. Buy a Note 10 and try it during the return period.

Swap sims (turn off iMessage first) from your iPhone to the Note 10 and use it as your daily driver for a while. See if it is the right fit for you. There is no shame to going back to your iPhone.....

I have both a Xs Max and Pixel 3 XL and swap back and forth all the time. Sometimes having both is better than being exclusive o_O

Well, I also own a s9 plus for my work phone, so I get to enjoy both as well. The only thing I am having issues with is my new 2019 4Runner Limited with the Entune system. Siri has that Siri Eyes Free which you can hold the button and tell her to text, call, map, and so on. Android, I have never been able to get this same thing to work on my S9 when I tried unless I am missing something. I've been searching and it seems there isn't a way. May just have to rip the deck out.

Me personally for those who are on iphones and want to try android then getting the pixel 3a is what I would suggest.

It's cheap and

Gives you a pure android experience that will give you what you are used to which is updates while obviously having a good camera to still use and everything else android offers…

I hate stock android. It’s so boring lol

I had the nexus 7 first and second gen. I liked the hardware on the nexus 7 2013 but the software is so bland. The only thing I like about pixel devices is the camera and the deep integration with the google assistant.

However I think if you’ve never tried android before or had a bad experience with a skinned android phone in the past then a pixel phone is a good starting point.

Yep. This is what I have right now. The XR and 3a. All the new phones coming out are very appealing but the 3a is pretty good for the cost. Actually, you can grab a regular 3 for $500 on the Google store as we speak which is even more amazing value.

What I did for the S10 plus preorder was bought a used Note 8 off Swappa for like $300 and used that to trade in and got the max trade in value ($500-600) off. Then I sold my Pixel 3 XL for like $700. Ended up getting the S10 plus pretty cheap and got all the promotional stuff for preordering and trading in. You could explore something like that. It's a little more work but the savings are there to be had.

For example, I think a Pixel 3 trade in for the Note gets you the max $600 discount. Rather than trade in your iPhone why not buy a used Pixel 3 for roughly $400 and trade that in instead? Lands you $200 profit right off the bat and then you can still sell the iPhone for max value.

And actually, if you really wanted to stick to the Samsung ecosystem, you could upgrade once per year and only pay about $500 out of pocket with no monthly fee. That is, if you could actually hang onto the phone the whole year. Lol

So I was going to buy a Pixel 3 to trade in on this, then I saw BB only accepts the Verizon version for trade? Ugh. And no fast shipping ones for reasonable priced. I canceled my order till I figure this out.

I've been doing more research on Dex, and can't believe more mainstream YouTubers haven't given Dex the weight it deserves. Specifically when reviewing the Note line, considering it's target market. Reviewers often compare Samsung flagships to iphones, which is expected. Now if they go on about the Apple ecosystem and how it plays nicely with your macbook, etc..., then it's a complete hack of a review if they don't go into Dex. Looking forward to Dex and Link to Windows features. I honestly think Dex is the future. Libraries and even cafe's could easily accommodate with just a row of monitors with Bluetooth mouse and keyboards for anyone to use. Now considering Samsung will be putting in AMD Radeon powered GPUs as soon as 2 years, just think how much of a workhorse Galaxy flagships will be with Dex. Here's few vids that really give you an idea what Dex can do.

This is actually one of the biggest reasons I bought the Note 10.

Strongly disagree. This would likely be a step backwards technologically, particularly in a cafe. The whole point is to make devices more portable (ie foldable phones). Why would a cafe put a bunch of monitors in their space when they can simply provide Wi-Fi? No one wants a dumb terminal, they want a devices you take yourself which belong to you. Laptops, Tablets, iPhones. This would be a huge step backwards.

If I end up going Note 10+, I’ve decided that I’m in for the whole year, and this is actually making it tough to say no to the Note because I’ve been planning on getting a new laptop, but this would actually save me money on spending the $$$ on a new laptop.

With Dex on the Note 10...... we are getting closer to the possibility carrying one device to use as our phone and computer all in one device.

But they doesn’t have to be dumb terminals or just a row of monitors. Internet cafes and libraries already have public computers. All you have to do is plug into the monitor to use Dex.
