Strongly disagree. This would likely be a step backwards technologically, particularly in a cafe. The whole point is to make devices more portable (ie foldable phones). Why would a cafe put a bunch of monitors in their space when they can simply provide Wi-Fi? No one wants a dumb terminal, they want a devices you take yourself which belong to you. Laptops, Tablets, iPhones. This would be a huge step backwards.

Yeah, while the functionality is nice, it’s still not a replacement for a full computer. People with any sort of portability needs will not give up having a full laptop for this, as you’d need to have a separate monitor, keyboard and mouse wherever you went. Are you going to ask your clients to have a monitor/keyboard/mouse set up for you when you arrive for your meeting? So unless you have a designated workspace with this require equipment always available, I don’t see the use case.

Dex looks perfect for 99 percent of people. I mean, almost every bfu uses just phone and compiter for basic staff (sometimes). Give me proper file system, browser, office, video player, basic photo editor and thats it. If needed - connected to lcd and boom, home computer. If dex is doing this, pure winner - samsung, please, get rid of pwm and I am in!

You sound like the people (that includes me) that initially laughed at the first big screen Note, and then scoffed at wireless charging for not being truly "wireless." But look where we are now, big screens are the norm and coffee shops, fast food eateries, have wireless charging trays built into the counters and furniture.
Then you go on to say, "No one wants a dumb terminal, they want a devices you take yourself which belong to you. Laptops, Tablets, iPhones."
Which I totally agree with as Dex uses your smartphone, which of course, goes wherever you go. That being said, having more options like Dex is a step in the right direction. Not everyone wants to carry around a laptop or tablet at all times. The hotel room is a perfect example where the casual user could absolutely benefit with a larger screen to interact with their phone.

Bought a Pixel 3 Verizon one, 2 days of use with next day off swappa for $415. That is still worth it. I reordered from BB my Note 10+ with trade in for that Pixel. All should be good then. Sell my AW4 SS, and all bands and that will pay off the Note 10 and Pixel 3 actually. And I can keep the iPhone XS Max for now. No smart watch, but I feel like I am tired of the Galaxy and AW and want to try a different watch now, just not sure what would be worth it.

Dex still seems like a party trick more than a useful feature so far. If someone has a monitor, keyboard, and mouse then they probably have a computer. And while the Note is a sufficiently powerful device, it's still not running a desktop OS. Anyone that can afford a Note device can afford a Chromebook which is a million times more useful than Dex.

It's a neat trick but it would have to run a more desktop like OS with full support for desktop versions of Office programs and the like to really take the next step.

They will get there, hopefully

I am looking forward to using Dex platform on my Mac and Windows machines. It will be perfect for me during my research days in the laboratory; I can simply plug in the phone to whatever computer I am using and respond to messages, patient requests, Skype, email, and other communications without having to physically pick up the phone and check messages all the time.

It is still evolving and it won't replace a laptop or chromebook...yet.
But it does offer the possibility of not having to carry 2 or more devices and having all of your information consistently in one place

Well said—much more concise and eloquent way of stating was I was trying to say.

These elements of Dex seem far more useful than trying to have the Note work as a stand alone computer replacement.

I still don’t see anyone with the current need for a laptop or tablet forgoing them to rely only on Dex. The utility of a laptop is that I have a full computer available anywhere I need it. Dex won’t help me when I have to meet various clients throughout the day, when I want to get some work done while grabbing a bite at a restaurant or while trying to work at a coffee shop, just to name a few very common everyday occurrences.

One thing that hasn’t been mentioned but was in one of the YouTube videos is that this could make for an awesome game emulator with a connected controller. Plugging in through USB C should with much better than chromecast.

What I use Dex for is travel.

I bring my $15 HDMI/USB/SD card dongel, a $20 folding keyboard, a $8 mini travel mouse,and $free HDMI cable

I plug it into the hotel TV. First I transfer all the files I want off of my DSLR, then I make edits, and post what I want to.

Then I kick back and watch Netflix or whatever through my phone on the TV.

All the while my phone is fast charging, and it works on anything with a HDMI port. The whole setup takes no space in my bag, but I am going to buy a slightly smaller HDMI cable some day.

Then you are not looking it the right places :D. Several of us here on this thread are thrilled with the prospect of Dex and what it can bring and evolve into.

Will it replace a workstation or work laptop? Nope! I don't think anyone here has implied it will. We have all said it would be nice to have to carry one personal device that would take the place of a laptop or tablet. One device that would/could sync or plug into a dock and be used as as a personal device. One device to have all of our information in one place.
I like the fact I can attach a BT mouse and keyboard to one device and have the functionality of a laptop.
Then as foldable devices grow evolve and mature this will really open up the possibilities

To be honest, I'm baffled that any tech enthusiast would not see value in this, even if they themselves didn't care for it personally. Wearables are a perfect example. So many people out there couldn't care less for a smartwatch, but there are millions who find wearables an incredible value and can't imagine not wearing a smartwatch.

Interesting Note 10 wallpaper

Ditto :)

This is not dissimilar to my use of DEX

Having live stream of emails and other papers (PDF's) etc on the large Hotel screen is a great convenience and will be better with the additional MS collaboration

Forget Airdrop with its file restrictions etc I pick up whole work directories and use my phone as a SD drive ,DEX is making this even easier

Like many who can afford the largest IPP could easily afford a laptop many try and push their mobile devices nearer to a replacement device and having this included is a great bonus for many to try

Our phones cant replace many devices but look how far cameras have come

There will always be other exceptions like myself, I have a TV/Film streaming app that does not allow screen mirroring or casting but my wife can catch her soaps on the hotel screen

I think its a great Samsung continue to see how far DEX can evolve

I've not seen anyone on here or reviewers talk about the FPS. Is it the exact same as the S10 range or a newer version? I know lots had no problem using the S10 FPS but for me, it was the worst part of the phone. Far too inconsistent.
Not seen much on specs but it has been noted its placed slightly higher on the screen and the face recognition has also been improved

It is the same one, which for me is another reason to wait until the next phones. After seeing the size and speed of the OP7 Pro scanner and looking at and trying my partners S10 I will wait until a better scanner, personally.

Just got a notification from FedEx about a delivery for the 21st. I assume that’s my Note, even though I’ve had no notification from Samsung.
Congrats!
I got the email from Samsung that my order has shipped. But after going into my Samsung account it was just the freebies and the package weighs only a pound :-(
