Note9 creamed the Pixel 3 XL at Multitasking:

Was there ever any doubt? Apps on Android will use the same amount of RAM regardless of skin. Google can't optimize apps better for their phones magically.

Oh, also I found something to complain about with this phone. The fingerprint sensor isn't great.

I'm now looking for a new phone. Note 9 or Mate 20 Pro? Note 9 is selling for around £650 on Ebay now so it would be over £200 less to buy than the Mate 20 Pro.

Had a little fun yesterday playing around with my Mate 20 Pro, a Galaxy Note9 and iPhone X S Max

Interesting how all these devices do a lot of similar things, but also have their own unique focus points.

PS. The fast wireless battery charging of the Mate 20 Pro and Note9 absolutely obliterated the iPhone's wired charging, it was actually pretty embarrassing.

Lol, WOW! I didn't even bother letting the phones charge all the way as I just didn't have the time, now I am glad I didn't as the iPhone would have taken up a considerable amount of time.

How the hell does a smartphone in 2018 take over 3 hours to charge with the in-box charger!? I'd be incredibly annoyed.

I'm not defending Apple, because at these prices they absolutely should be including a fast charger in the box, but charge speeds are an issue 99.9% of folks just won't care about in the days of battery life making it through an entire day. Most folks just put the phone on the charger at night and wake up to a full battery.

It's more about the days where you have a busy day and only have time to do a quick in-and-out of your house.

I don't know about you but often times I will have days where I am super busy at work and at the same time things are happening in my personal life (weddings, births, funerals, buying a house, selling a house, flight layovers, hobbies etc...) and I simply don't have the time to stop sometimes, those particular days can have you going over a day not being able to allow the device to fully charge. Days like that you will want to plug in for maybe 10-30mins depending on how much time you have and you want enough charger to get through.

I wish the world was as perfect as simply plugging in for a whole 3hours every single day for the rest of your life, but it doesn't, life happens. You get to bed and boom, a phone call, your parent is in hospital due to health/old age or a friend needs help, or your kid is in trouble or even worse, you are having a health issue. Days like that, you quickly realise how great it is to have fast charging. The Huaweis charge so fast that within 10mins you are good to go.

Another great thing with fast charging is that many Power Banks now support it, so even if you are mobile with a Power Bank, your phone can get a decent charge within a very short time and not have to deal with keeping it plugged in.

In a perfect world charging your smartphone for +3hours would be fine though.

Those examples are very rare cases, and I'd think most folks wouldn't be concerned about how much juice their phone has left but more about the emergencies that are taking place. I understand they'd want enough left to makes calls/texts, but kick the phone into lower power mode and keep moving.

I definitely agree that things will arise where you won't always be by a charger, and that's why fast charging should be included, but these phones are pretty sustainable through an entire day now, and low power mode exists for those rare occasions.

I'm sure Apple weighed the decision of including a fast charge brick, realized most folks (not us tech nerds on MR) don't use their phones enough to worry about their battery dying, and decided to take the extra margin. While such findings would likely be accurate, it doesn't make the final decision right, especially at these prices.

Its absolutely ridiculous at those prices, but hey, if people are happy with the slow iPhone charging then more power(or less power?) to them! There was a time people said they were just fine with a 3.5inch display once anyway...

I usually charge my phone before bed, and with the Mate 20 Pro, it's even easier as within no time it's at 100%, and I am good to go if anything arises. Same with the Mate 10 Pro and Galaxy Note8.

Id love to get yo a day where a device wirelessly charges to 100% within 5mins and lasts a week with very heavy usage, THAT will be a beautiful time!

There are lots of people who never put their phones down, constantly on social media.

It's ludicrous that phones over £1000 have cheap 5W chargers.

Apple is a penny pincher. Corporations only logic is pennies. Otherwise we’d gave 4GB and larger battery already two years ago.

Then buy the 29-30 watt USB-C charger and in 30 minutes you get 50% charge. I did for those instances I travel, or need to throw it on the charger fast. My car has the fast wireless charger, and charges it fast that way as well (not as fast as wired, but still faster than regular wireless charging).

Mine charges at night, so I never worry about that till I travel. But honestly, never needed too as the battery lasts better than any phone I have had so far.

Why would I do that when I can get a phone that goes from 0-100% in 1hour without having to buy extra accessories

Like I said, if people are happier with the slow charging, then good for them.

I am sure it's a cost thing, but another reason they do that and they have said this, is because fast charging the batteries destroy how long they will last as well. I rather my battery not get so hot like it did on my Notes and last longer than worry about it charging fast.

Heat is part of the charging process and the amount has come down considerably these past few years. Heat is really not an issue when fast charging both the Note8 and Mate 20 Pro. Considering how quickly the latter charges I would have expected it to be untouchable due to high heat, but in actual fact it produces regularl warmth in the beginning (0-15%) and after that it's fine, and I am using it in a case.

Well, my Note 9 gets pretty warm when I charge it for a bit.

Maybe Apple are using a lower quality battery that would age terribly with fast charging. My 2yearold S7 Edge got regularly fast charged and is still good.

The Mate 10 Pro review unit I had late last year is still being abused in tests and that battery after a whole year of high drainage and supercharging still holds strong.

Anyway , going back to my point, if people are happy with slow charging then good for them, it's not for all of us.

My works S7 Edge at 2 years the battery was pretty much done. Health was around 75% but it would barely get me through a day not using it and when I did, it would start to drain fast.

My 3 years old note 5 still holds good battery. For light medium usage, no problem lasting 8 hours

So, does anyone want to talk about the Note 9 and not the iPhone? Because I'm sure there are iPhone threads somewhere.
Yeah this thread got derailed badly from what I can tell. Didn't mean to drop in and add to that. The Note9 as we all know is a fantastic device. :)
