Got the October security patch update this morning!

Note (no pun intended), I have an unlocked Note 9 from Samsung UK!

Friend on Bell Mobility got the October security patch a few days back on his S7 Edge. He's also on Android 8.0 and Samsung Experience 9.0. He's not concerned with big OS updates because his feeling is, Samsung phones have lots of features to begin with. He's only concerned with the security patches. And he's got a point when he says, he doesn't notice anything new when he gets an OS update, he uses his phone just the same as he always did. So no big deal. But everyone can appreciate timely security patches. That being said, most of us will update our phones within 2-3 years anyways. So the endless OS updates argument, as I see it, really doesn't hold water anymore.

Well, there’s still the point that the hardware often lasts for a couple of years more, and if I’m going to hand the phone down to a family member, I’ll feel better if I’m not putting their data to a risk doing so.

Note 9 kills the xs max and xs in YouTube video playback. Xs max lasted about 5 hrs compared to about 9 hrs for note 9.

Here we go again. Same guy that did your last test here below that you were all over, did it again, and the Max won.

And here are a few bonus ones that I don't count to be as great.

I'm good with a 3yr old phone still getting security updates. I simply don' know too many people these days handing down phones. Teenagers these days simply have newer phones. People just get phones on contract and a new one every renewal.

How did the tester manage to set all four phones on the same display intensity without a light meter?

It really doesn't matter. I don't know why you are going out of your way to prove the note 9 is a terrible phone. You prefer the max that's fine so do I but there's no need to trash the note 9. It's still a great phone

That's not too bad as October isn't over yet. When I sold my note 8 last year in December it was still on the August patch. I just checked my Husband's note 8 and it was on the September update and the October 1st was there to download. He has no idea about the security updates though.

No, it is bad. I bought rh phone for 1,000 and it’s an unlocked phone from Samsung. There’s no excuse for updates to be so slow. No camera update, no October patch even though it’s almost the end of October. We shouldn’t excuse poor service for such an expensive device.

People in here wouldn’t be so forgiving if Microsoft pushed out Patch Tuesday three weeks later, why are security patches on Android given such a pass?

Yeah as long as security updates keep coming in, it's all fine.

I'm sorry, seems someone else is going out of the way to prove the Max is a terrible phone. I was just replying to him with his same method of posts that he likes to do. Even one from the same guy he used. I liked the Note 9. I owned it. I didn't like the issues it had for a $1300 phone. And Samsung still not fixing the Camera issue blows.

I rather Microsoft push out slow updates vs every update they have pushed for the past 3 months has been pulled after they release it. Since they let go their QA department, all their updates have been trash and causing problems. LOL. At least Samsung/Google/Apple are all better than Microsoft.

Google is so much better. That’s why the Pixel line sometimes doesn’t save pictures and has crappy audio from recordings that has to be solved with software. Oh, and the act that using the camera closes basically everything else. But yeah, they’re awesome.

Well, Microsoft deletes files on your drive after the update was applied. :) Or screws up the NIC on tons of servers. And so on. It's been bad.

Yeah, lately the big updates have been pretty bad. That known folder redirect hit about ... one hundredth of one percent of people using Windows 10. Or are you trying to say it hit everyone? You wouldn’t be trying to overplay an issue to make Google’s mistakes look better would you?

Microsoft makes an OS on their own that powers over a billion devices daily. No, you can’t boot up AOSP on its own. Companies have to take that code and add in things to make it boot up. Google isn’t as good at software as you seem to e saying.

Don’t have a windows PC anymore but I would rather they left me alone or pushed out slow updates. Every time I used my windows computers they were always bugging me about updates and threatening to shut down my computer and Install them.

Outside of the pixel updates are always touch on go on android. It is what it is. I’m not giving passes it’s the nature of android.

I’ve personally not had any issues with my max but there are still people complaining about cellular connectivity which has not been fixed yet.

Could it be because Intel makes inferior modems and no amount of software fixes will make them as good as Qualcomm?

Maybe. We’ve had the intel chip for a few years in the UK which is probably why I’m not seeing any issues with my max. I do remember having some issues with 4G/ 3G switching on my iPhone 7 Plus which was when Apple first started using intel modems in the UK. It did resolve but it took several months. Likewise it seems in the US all these problems started when Apple switched to intel.

My mind
I've got to say that the standby times on my T-Mobile Note 9 are just outstanding. I alternate usage between my S9+ and my T-Mobile Note 9 and an AT&T Note9 so that's why it seems like I don't use it all that much but I do.

Perhaps if you just admit both phones are very close in the battery department then the argument will stop. There are reviews with results going both ways so i would say it's a tie and call it a day already, the truth is they are both solid all day phones. But i just know you won't do that as you are adamant that the iPhone battery life is WAY better.

That doesn't include the fix. People are still having the problem with that update.
