It was only a matter of time before the Note series was discontinued, with the S series getting bigger every year to the point where the S20 Ultra is actually bigger than the Note 20 Ultra.

The Note series these day's doesn't offer much over the S series apart from the S Pen, which tbh alot of people don't use or don't use much & just like the design of the Note myself inc.

Back in the early day's of the Note Series it was Samsung Pinnacle Flagship for that year, these day's not so much so.

Samsung new Pinnacle Flagship is the Z Series this is where all efforts will go into for the next few years, inc scrolling or rolling displays.

As much as i hate to say this there just isn't a place for the Note series to continue, beginning of the year we get the S Series & towards the end the Z series.

Smh so they went through with it
Any rumour about this is too clickbait-worthy to be taken as reliable IMO. Just like it has been for years. I'm not saying it's impossible, but I ain't getting my panties in a twist until I see far more than this.

Even if the Fold 3 will house a pen and the S21 is pen compatible, that still leaves a $2000 device as the only option that actually houses a S Pen. I'm not so sure Samsung would go for that. Nor just drop one of the more recognisable brands in the entire mobile industry.

I feeling this might actually help the Note 20’s resale value.
dunno can't help but think android phones will always have awful resale value. mainly due to the amount that gets released.

the fold 2 on comparison sites is already down to £600 lol basically is similar price to last years iPhone.

Even if it's true and there's no more Notes, it won't increase resale value. You can already get mint second hand ones for almost half price in the UK. iPhone 11PM are selling for far more despite being 11 months older.

The real issue is why make the ultra if that’s the case? They could have easily went the s10 route and that would leave a separate space for the note.

The ultra at that size makes little sense, surely they have different plans for it. I would completely be on your side if they never made the ultra.

But

A cheap note is important, some will have a problem with spending 1100 to use a stylus so a cheaper option is a must and that is a valid point.

Some people actually bought the smaller amd lighter amd flatter note 20 and like it.

Perhaps, not many people bought that many Note 20/20 Ultra to keep that series alive. Then there’s the issue of people returning the Note 20 Ultra due to the Exynos chip. At the end of the day, money talks.

I’m all for consolidating... it makes no sense for Samsung to have so many series of phones. I understand, choice is important.. and being able to reach certain price points is essential as well. But then again, it starts becoming convoluted.

The problem with adding the S-Pen to the Fold will be the price.. Samsung needs to find a way to bring that price down. And I don’t see it coming down anytime soon.

I love my Note, Exynos and all.
I know quite a few Note owners, we have three Note 20 ultra owners at work, my self included, and from a relatively small staff number, they had note 10's and 9's prior to the 20, just like me.
I know that's anecdotal, but I know quite a few other Note users too.

I can't imagine sales are that bad.

Anyway, I'd be sad to see the note go after so many years.

Don't we always hear the Note is going away every year?

This time its different including poor s20 sales, current global economy and increasing production costs. I would merge the two Sammy's main flagships as well but would kill s instead a Note.

I guess combining them might work, I prefer the squarer look of the Note, the s-pen is pretty niche, you'd wonder why they'd bother to be honest but this is Samsung, they'll try all sorts, thats why I like them.

Anyway, we'll see eh?

It makes far more sense to keep the Note over the S, especially if they plan to have pen support. Only trouble is the timing of when they release them, a new Note early one year wouldn't go down well.

Also it allows Samsung to keep battery size higher as with note line battery was smaller due to the s pen space

Sales of the note 20 ultra were good. This helped Samsung have a record quarter.

This is largely unfounded as most only compare sticker prices and not what was bundled or included as standard,

The savvy Samsung buyer is negligibly to no worse off than the iPhone buyer when you look at true ownership costs even in the US and when you look world wide promotions on Samsung phones are very generous

I have lived in countries where its almost impossible to sell 2nd hand Apple goods other than to fellow expats yet have people queuing literally when I upgrade my Samsung phones etc, YMMV

Many of the well paid Asian engineers I work with on salaries in excess of $150k simple do not buy Iphones as they are well aware of the restrictions and stealth costs associated with owing Apple products, these are canny people and do not part with their money so easily and work out costs to the nearest 2C's, they are not fooled by one liners on 2nd hand prices

Western habits on consumer goods like phones and laptops are not so easily transferable to the greater masses in the east and is precisely why Samsung and even Apple now could not avoid having a spread of price ranges. many people buy thier data packages daily, I get bombarded with daily or weekly sms promotions for these services that seem almost trivial by comparison to western data packages. I think the 10 UKP monthly minimum brought in by 02 recently in uk is probably the annual spend for many.

With or without a pen or a case or a charger of BT headset or screen protector are deal breakers too more than you may realize

This is a great point. I had thought about fully switching to Samsung and upgrading once per year. After the great trade-ins they have it would probably cost me $400 to $500 and I would probably get $200 of free stuff with that.

Probably the best value of any smartphone tech out there from that perspective.

Samsung trade ins are really good and it is all well and good but only if you want a Samsung phone.

trades ins aren't as good in the uk as the states but still offers good value for most part. Where people have an issue is if they buy a Samsung phone and can't return it for whatever reason selling it is hard work as generally on sites like gumtree there is simply not enough interest and if there is people just aren't willing to pay more than £600 even on the open market.

a lot would rather just use comparison sites for a quick sale. The note ultra now if you wanted to sell is going for £500 even though it was £1,179 retail price. so If you do make that mistake you are certainly out of pocket by a lot in a matter of months.

although note ultra is on sale now on Samsung site for only £929 for 256GB which is a steal really. Guess it depends if you want a while before buying and not on pre order.

In general though can only really go off in the area and country you are in and lets face it thats the only thing that matters if you are in that country. other countries resale values is not something that one can control but certainly in the UK I have found all android devices resale value is awful and I don't see that changing but if you buy Samsung phones every year then this doesn't matter as you get a good deal by upgrading on Samsung's website anyway so really resell value doesn't matter at all. It only matters if you are going from android to IOS and give up after a matter of months.
