What's everybody's screen time been after a few charges?

I'm on about 5 hours screen time with 17% left

I am on 2.75 hrs with 51% remaining. Solid for a little guy like this. But, then again I also think I might go with the S10+ around this fall.

He has a very interesting take on how great he perceives iOS to be. It’s okay now, but the past few months I’ve found so many little things to be such a pain in the tail. So many little crashes and stutters. Somewhere along the line Apple fixed it all. Thank goodness. But that’s why Apple wears me out. They make it stable and then they update and stuff breaks again and is wonky for weeks or months. Misery ensues until they update with bug fixes. To some extent that happens on the Pixel, too. There might after all be some benefit to Samsung being “a bit tortoise” and testing updates before putting them out there.

And the rest of what he had to say, well it is true but just very annoying about Apple and brings out the contrarian in me. Lol, yeah HomePod doesn’t work if you go Galaxy. Can’t use Apple maps on anything but an iPhone, true. That sort of thing makes many people go back to Apple.

It just pisses me off.

The ecosystem is starting to feel like a prison. You will have bits and pieces of it that aren’t optimal but you can’t swap out those pieces for something better because the whole other parts of the ecosystem will then just not work.

Yeah iOS scrolls nice. It does. Samsung scrolling looked janky on my husband’s S10+ and on my S9+. That must be a Samsung thing. My Pixel 3XL scrolls fine.

Anyway I am listening to this fellow talk about the flawless unlocking of his Tesla that his S10 gives him that the iPhone can’t. Something like that would have me keeping the Samsung.

But he and others his age and in his profession find Instagram and other social media important. He makes a good point about Android not playing nice with those platforms. I don’t use them but those here who do feel his pain on that point.

I think he gave it a fair shot. It’s just frustrating to see the reasons people can’t break away from Apple. I like Apple and am posting this from my Xr. So I’m not rooting against Apple. I am rooting for people to feel more free to move fluidly from one choice to another and back again. I don’t like that Apple gets these hooks into people because I think it makes them arrogant and they tend to hold back from the “insanely great” products we know they can make. It frustrates me that it takes years of trickling out “S” iterations to get their best out to us. It’s not that their products aren’t good. But we know they can do better or not cheap out on a few things every year but they don’t because they know they don’t have to. We will just take what we are given and poop rainbows over it.

I hate Huawei for a lot of reasons but I like that they put it all out there as soon as they’ve stolen stuff and polished it up.;) They’re dressed to impress. And they really do have some good engineers now. We can’t have them in the USA so I hope Google and Samsung wake the hell up and go full on Huawei style and take a bite out of Apple where it hurts. Make Apple hungry for our business again.

I'm right there with ya GM. If not the most, I'm probably the close to the most invested in the Apple ecosystem of anyone in this subforum. Our household has 5 iPhones, 6 Macs, 5 iPads, 2 AppleTVs, 3 HomePods, 4 Apple Watches, a couple pairs of AirPods and a 'partridge in a pear tree.' I've been all in on Apple for over 10 years now. I genuinely prefer (with a few exceptions, of course) how things work in iOS and MacOS vs. their counterparts. But I'm simply just fed up with Apple--their hubris, arrogance, how they nickel and dime their customers whenever possible, and put out products with so many compromises. Not sure what the straw was that broke this camel's back (jeez, I'm full of all sorts of goofy cliches today) but I've just had it.

So I'm consciously taking steps to move to products and services from their competitors, fully embracing the fact that certain parts of my daily workflow just aren't going to work as well, or at least how I prefer them. And I'm fine with that. It's finally time to speak with the one thing Apple appears to understand, my wallet. Won't force my family to switch..that will be up to them as it's time to upgrade devices. I just know I'm going to extricate myself. It's going to take some time (can't ditch my Apple Watch). Doesn't mean I won't purchase new gear from Apple sometime down the line but it certainly won't be until they make some wholesale changes.

I’m curious, how many apps come pre-loaded with the S10 in the U.S? And how many of those can you actually remove as opposed to just “disable”? That’s one of the main things that have me wondering if it’s worth returning the P3XL. The bloat.

So anybody switched to gestures instead of on screen buttons? Giving it a try as I'm used to it from the iPhone will see what I like better

I tried it, couldn;t stand them.

Amazing really how apple can make you feel so trapped. It's takes a while to get used to it and it has for me but there's no turning back as I sold my apple watch yesterday

Galaxy watch isn't as good as the apple watch but it does the basics well the rest I can do on my plus

Photos transfer has actually been a smooth move over

Just passwords and notes has took a while

Agreed. I just sold my iPhone XS MAx 256gb on Swappa for $1090. And my Apple Watch for around $700 there as well. So, that allowed me to pay cash for the S10+, and will pay cash for a new watch, just haven't seen any deals on the Galaxy watch yet. Been watching Swappa too.

Have an idea how to fix my phone while its locked, won't activate Google Voice in my car? It tries, but won't do it till I unlock it. I have the car stereo set as trusted device too.
[doublepost=1552347059][/doublepost]Got around 7 hours this weekend SOT with 35% left. Crazy battery life! s10+

Our family has about the same amount of Apple products, so I do empathise with what you're going through.

Last summer when my birthday came around and we had finally weathered all the family health crises and gotten just enough of a break to finish my home office, my husband offered to get me a new computer for my office. For so long, I had dreamed of an iMac Pro. But Amazon was holding some sort of sale and a VR capable gaming tower came available for just at $1000. I was at one time big big into art on Photoshop and would have loved to get into fancy video editing but even so, the Pro is truly at Pro pricing and was never going to fit me. But even the regular iMac with taxes wasn't going to really be a good match for me and my budget. A lot of the games that the kids wanted were best on PC, or so I was told, and that was a factor in my decision as well.

So I got the Windows PC that is gaining more prominence in the family, because my kid edits her school newspaper on it, for one thing. The kids like playing games on it. I like playing Sims on it. It is expandable. It's not hard to repair. It's been such a worthwhile purchase.

We don't seek to kick Apple to the curb so much as gain freedom and fluidity across different hardware.

A lot of the time when people ask for advice here about how to go about doing that, I refrain from giving advice, not because I don't live an increasingly platform independent/fluid life, but because my husband sets most of it up and I just am not confident enough to explain or answer questions. Even if I think I know the answer, I am afraid of giving wrong information, so I keep quiet.

For example, there are just too many technical nuances about email that I still don't understand, so I refrain from making recommendations, especially to people who have clear enterprise needs or restrictions.

The main computer that my husband conducts most of our household transactions on is still an iMac. He would dearly have loved at one time to have an iMac pro or Mac Pro but never could justify the expense, especially once he exited development and joined the upper management levels where the emphasis is less on his programming skills and education, and more on his business and economics background. At some point he will be replacing it, and I don't know what he's going to go with.

I once tried running the household from my iPad mini. Good Graces, I'll never try that again. Just trying to organise a children's birthday party was a nightmare because Safari on the iPad would not play nice with the website of the venue I was trying to book. I didn't have my PC at the time and my MacBook pro was in storage, so I had to use the ipad.

Now that I have a PC at long last I am doing more on it and loving it. If we are living in a post PC era, someone needs to tell me what would be better than my tower PC, because I'm just not yet seeing me trying to do everything on tablets or phones again. Many things are fine, but some things are still best with a mouse and a real file system.

At some point I will try Dex.

My husband said black crush is still an OLED problem he’s experiencing on the S10+. I know it plagued my Pixel 3XL and Pixel 2 and S9+ (to a noticeable but minimal degree).

He was watching part of a Star Trek movie on Amazon Prime when he remarked on it.

I have not seen black crush on the iPhone OLED but because of my health problems haven’t watched that many movies on it. I did watch one movie and did one viewing of part of a movie for a test.

Ask him to download an app called "display tester" there is a test pattern to check for black crush, my S10+ does not exhibit any black crush whatsoever, My s9 on the other hand...

Edit: Please note you have to have the display set to natural colours for proper sRGB calibration, on vivid it crushes the blacks badly.

It sounds like camera and software updates are your priority. If that's the case, then the Pixel is the obvious choice.

Working like a charm for me, but i know a lot of people are having issues. I do think Samsung need to make the area where it will read your fingerprint larger in the next Gen, that would fix peoples issues.
Right. From what I have read, it's a lot like when FaceID launched in 2017. On one hand, yeah, it's really really cool. On the other, the existing 10e fingerprint is better. I also tend to downplay complaints like "it's not the same" because it's newer technology.

It's a very solid First Gen Effort, its most certainly not as bad as people here would have you believe. However there is room for improvement.

He’s got it on natural so he is seeing the black crush on natural colors unfortunately. He is downloading the app.

I am excited about the prospect of a S10 or S10+ in my possession down the road. I am going back to my XS Max for now. The S10e is a fine device, but FaceID is so much better than the S10e FP sensor. I am also not a fan of the location. I'll probably snag a S10 when its on sale after WWDC.
