This.

The only real problem with Bixby is that it feels like it's being forced on you by Samsung which people don't like. Until just recently it came with a button on your phones that couldn't be ramapped and it was a pain in the ass to completely opt out and turn off Bixby. Samsung needs to let their users choose Bixby rather than force it down their throats.
I agree, but since it is indeed a part of the phone I think reviewers ought to at least investigate and discuss what it is and why they are dismissing it.

I think Samsung released Bixby too late in the day and now it feels forced. Also android users have the option of using the google assistant which is just superior. It’s not that Bixby is that bad it’s just that the assistant is so good. On top of this I think some people remember how awful S voice was and don’t even give it a chance.

It took whatever generation the one on the iPhone 8 Plus is for Apple FPS to work well for me. So Apple finally got there and of course discontinued it.

It took Samsung time to get to the S9+ to get it working for me.

HTC worked well first time I ever tried it and same for Pixel 3 and Pixel 3

I am a bit anxious about my prospects with the S10+. I suppose I can always send everything back and then try the S10e order I have queued up if I can’t get the in display one to work decently for me. What I do notice is that it is a bit slow even when it does work. My IPhone XR Face ID is a bit slow, too. Lol, it doesn’t help I keep fingering the back of it looking for the FPS when I switch between it and my Pixel. :p

My husband absolutely loves Bixby now. I haven’t really paid attention to what’s going on but he’s been diving into Bixby to get it to customize his phone to recognize when he’s at work and change settings. I don’t know the details so I can’t tell you what all that man has gone and done but it seems Bixby is his new best buddy. I guess that’s a good thing.

I really think so many of the big named reviewers miss the mark because they instantly dismiss Bixby. These people earn money making reviews, but apparently can’t be bothered to make the effort like my husband has done to see what it’s actually capable of. It’s very juvenile in my opinion for a professional to just hop on the “Bash Bixby” Bandwagon because that’s the cool thing to do. He’s a ridiculously busy man with only a few minutes of truly free time a day yet he managed to spare a few minutes here and there to make Bixby productive for his needs. So you’d think a reviewer could manage it.

But no, time after time I see the Bixby button dismissed as something you can now remap.

Bunch of sheep.

I have no doubt plenty of reviewers are dismissing Bixby primarily based on reputation but I've seen some reviews provide very specific examples where it's fallen down. IIRC, the Verge review showed how Bixby was proclaiming the user was 15 min late for a flight...that wasn't scheduled until the next day.

I admittedly have never personally used Bixby so I won't presume to proclaim it's better or worse than other Assistants. My own personal reservations have to so with ubiquity of an Assistant. I don't want to use 2 or 3 different Assistants. It's why I have invested zero time in Cortana or Alexa (among other reasons) and why I don't have any interest in using Bixby. If Samsung ever releases their Home device and Bixby makes its way into other devices, I'll consider it but until then, it's Google Assistant for me.

Bixby is good for automating sequences of functions and setting them to occur at a pre set time. It's not really suitable yet as a replacement for Google Assistant, which is a really good general purpose assistant.

I did just see Bixby succeed where Google Assistant failed. We were just with my father in law and my husband had to do some paperwork for him and Google Assistant either didn't hear my husband's request for a phone number correctly or just had a an AI brain fart, but it did a general Google search for the phone number my husband was trying to get quickly from his contact list. Bixby fetched it immediately even though it seemed to hear him incorrectly at first. But it quickly autocorrected what he asked and gave the information immediately.

I get the sense the majority of people want just once assistant and to be done with it. But at this point in the AI assistant race, I think it's still worthwhile to allow competition to flourish and give them all a try.

Bixby is the biggest gimmick ever put on a phone, total trash.
Cladster did you invest any time in using Bixby? And it may seem like a gimmick now but you need to realize that unlike Apple, which apparently has lapsed into malaise over several key parts of its product line for the past few years, and unlike Google, which has suffered from a form of corporate ADHD and dropped several promising products and services, Samsung is very stubborn about refining their projects with gusto. I may not like the Edge display but there's no denying they refined it over the years. Each year brought us an ever improved version. And look what they've done for OLED displays in general.

@GrumpyMom
You probably already know about this but I stumbled upon so many options for enhancing the visuals of the S10 screen.
If you haven't already, might be worth playing about with it to see if it will help you be able to put up with the display!

Oh bless you! When my phone finally does come in I am giving those a try! Thank you for thinking of me! I’d just need to make adjustments for reading text. Movies and pictures look fantastic from what I’ve seen. Lol, it’s so hard to borrow my husband’s S10+ the last couple of days. On weekends I get up much earlier than he does and I can sit with his phone for an hour or so. :D

Today he let me play around with the FPS. I am not sure I like it. It definitely takes a bit of practice.

I hope Q doesn't get ridiculous with security.

I already don't like the direction Google is going with Pie. Pie eliminated WPS Push which I'm slightly annoyed about since I travel to homes and businesses a lot.

Pie also crippled call recording's caller ID. You can still auto record calls, but have to save the number on the file manually. I'm glad the ACR app made it sort of easy to do.
Google has a new permission policy and denied phone number access permission for call recording apps including ACR. No call recording app from the beginning of March 2019 will be able to access incoming or outgoing phone number. This will affect both Pro and Free versions. ACR will have “Edit number” feature for you to update the number.

I thought that is no longer needed on the Note 9 onwards? Just need a usb c to hdmi cable.

Yea, I bought the DEX cable instead. Worked on the S9+ as it does on my S10+.

There is an advantage to the dock. You have USB ports. You can use a wireless keyboard that uses the RF usb dongle instead of bluetooth. I tried to use an adapter that I use with my MBP, but dex wouldn't work with it. The cable has to plug in directly. So I bought a cheap bluetooth keyboard with built-in track pad for DEX. Works great.

Well I have problems haha. I decided to buy a black unlocked S10e. To my surprise I love it. Got very lucky with the screen and it's perfect. Better than the S10+ I tried in every way except for resolution obviously. No major color shift at an angle and nice bright white. I much prefer the flat screen as well.

I'm using it with Verizon and I am also surprised that voice over LTE, HD voice, AND WiFi calling all work!!! Major unexpected win.

Bluetooth audio using LDAC 990kbps is still broken just like my S10+ was. So hopefully it is software. It doesn't bother me because I didn't pay $1000 for it and love everything else about the phone much more than the S10+. Ergonomics are perfect and the side FPS works beautifully. I'm a righty so it's a natural position for my thumb.

Still restoring from Google backup but color me very impressed so far with this little guy.

It seems to be the common theme that the S10e is in fact the most complete phone of the s10 family which is great news for people who don't mind a smaller screen. I haven't read a bad review on the S10e. Personally i need a big screen so the s10+ was the only choice for me, luckily ive had alot of luck with the Ultrasonic FPS so i'm loving the phone.

I always go for the plus version I like bigger screen. The only problem is they are not pocket friendly. So guys when you go out and about where do you carry your phone?
[doublepost=1552613818][/doublepost]I always keep it in my left pant pocket if I am wearing loose.

A poll on the FPS from sammobile. Seems quite mixed but not many outright trashing it which is good

I also always keep my phone in a dedicated front pants pocket. I don't wear skinny jeans and even the Pixel 3XL fits easily. Sometimes sitting is a pain though but usually I can manage.

Seems like people are having different experiences with the in screen FPS. I think it's pretty excellent for 1st generation tech. My only knock is that it's a little slower than regular scanners. I'd say it works 85% of the time whereas traditional scanners work 95% of the time.

With some improvements in recognition and haptic feedback and it'll be really great.

My experience is .....

From the display off, you have to tap the sensor slightly longer.
From the lock screen, (meaning the display is on) it's lighting fast to unlock.
From the display on and unlocked, using the FPS within apps, unlock the secure folder, using Samsung Pay, and etc, is lighting fast.

So yes ...... to unlock from the display off, it is slower than a traditional FPS.

I got some more time with the S10+ while my husband was grilling us some dinner. :D

Ew, from Amazon Prime Video, Star Trek Beyond’s first scene looked awful with the black crush. Looked like a bad animated gif. I tried changing settings and tried their Cinematic tweak. No luck. Every other well lit scene in that movie looked great. It might just be that movie. I don’t know. It looks like crap on every OLED I’ve seen it on so far. Except maybe the XS Max, but I don’t really remember for sure.

The fingerprint sensor does read my print but it takes me a moment to realize it’s done so. I get all spazzy fingered on it. I did read in an article dated today that Samsung is still working on updates for it. I find it accurate, just a little pokey. I’d be fine with it.

I just wrestle a little with the size of the S10+. I think the S10+ has actually got too much screen for me. Which is a very weird thing to say. I guess it’s because I’m already carrying two large phones.

I also think I just have too much of a tech crush on the little s10e. I keep thinking how it will be this cute little phone in my pocket. Although I walked the dog while I had an Xr in my back pocket and the 3XL crammed in my front jeans pocket. Go figure. And my butt isn’t that big. :D But I’ve got “mom jeans” with amazing pockets! So I don’t need a tiny phone. I just like how the S10e is proportioned.

I thought about getting a regular S10 so I don’t lose the zoom lens. But man, I love the flat display I saw at Best Buy. I usually write with my left hand, but overall I’m fairly ambidextrous, so I’m fine with the FPS on the right side.

The Pink Punk s10e will look cute with my yellow Xr.

Frosty the 3XL will reign as my big screen champ. Oh and I still have Snowball and I’m thinking of putting the Q beta on her.

My husband IS still trying to talk me into keeping my S10+ order. I know he loves this phone and thinks I’m making a mistake. I hope to visit Best Buy one more time tomorrow before I make the final decision. It is a shame that all the pre order deals are gone if I decide the S10 is the best fit for me.

One thing I do have a concern with is that the S10e at Best Buy ran pretty hot when I saw it last. Is it a phone that heats up pretty fast?
