I forget how old your kids are, but it can be useful to catch that spur of the moment oopsie or just a great moment if they're young like ours. I've found that Google One and Amazon offer the best storage options at the best prices. I do DropBox, too, but mainly for videos that you can send a link to via text. There's a few long term storage services out there. One of which is BackBlaze. They have an AiO solution for computer backups and a B2 cloud storage for long term storage. Ideally, with pictures you want to keep, you want to have them backed up in multiple places. And with todays's flagships, you can have them printed and delivered. Though I'd rather opt for one of my actual camera for that.
Also, just an FYI, but Google Photos has a setting you need to tick (unless they changed it) to upload the full size copy and not a reduced quality one. It should keep the full size quality photo on your phone which you can upload to Drive aka Google One.
Funny you bring up Pop Sockets. I've got rather large hands but my cased phone can get heavy if I have my hand extended out for several minutes or trying to hold it steady without something to lean on. I came across them in June '17 or July '17 through a photo I'd seen on a car site and ended up finding out what they were months later. I'm not sure if they're something I'd like, especially since the adhesive might ruin a nice case. But I did spot an all aluminum capped Pop Sockets earlier this week on a deals site.
I'd probably try and make my own cap using lacquered burled wood.

There were rumors of it offering even more space and more RAM. Should cost a fortune here in the US, especially in ZA. Enjoy!
