Ok so might be here in time for game of thrones. If not I’ll just bring down one of the ones from upstairs. Do you know if you can get it to play shows from now TV like you can get it to play stuff from Netflix and 4OD.
[doublepost=1554813300][/doublepost]This is pretty cool

Try both in store. Or buy both and return the one you don't like. Asking this question in the S10 thread isn't going to result in an unbiased answer...
Unless you've owned both.

I always find it strange asking whether to buy an iPhone or some kind of Android phone. It will almost certainly come down to your OS preference.

Agreed. It really does come down to both OS preference and does the quality of the device outweigh the OS.

I still probably prefer iOS in many ways, but the S10+ is such a home run that I'm willing to accept some of the things I miss from iOS and embrace some of the benefits of Android a bit more.

Anyone else experiencing my issue posted earlier? I've disabled vibration in the phone's general notification settings and in Android messaging settings, everywhere else I can think of globally within settings. Yet still get vibrations when people text me. I need to go into each contact and everyone else who is messaging me (outside of contacts) and manually disable vibration for each number / contact / separately. I get random texts from auto generated numbers for work and they are always different. So I'm always buzzing. This is a major issue and problem for me, stupid things like this cause me to always sell a Samsung phone after a few months.

General notification settings?

on the pull down menu, tap the speaker icon once for mute, twice for full mute inc. vib.

why are you going at the notification settings?

this is android, stuff is simple and not convoluted like ios

Did that already awhile ago, doesn't solve the problem.

Edit- This is only when using Google / Android messages app. I'm trying the stock Samsung messaging app and there are no issues. Maybe it's just an odd app update that did this.

Perhaps a permissions issue, You may have given the google app "priority" with notifications which mean it takes precedence over user settings.

(I think the google app isnt as good tbh)

In android messages, if you go to settings -> notifications, "vibrate" is unchecked here but still vibrating? I keep mine on but will turn it off to test to see if I can replicate it.

Hmm. I went into the Android Messaging permissions and it does have permission to control the phone's vibration features. There is no way for me to turn this off. I'm going through the Google app now trying to find where to edit this permission, if I can even edit it at all.

Correct, still get vibration. When I receive a text message, from within the message I need to also manually disable vibration for that particular person / contact. There's a separate vibration toggle that is still enabled for some reason in each contact until I disable it. Even when the global notification setting has vibration toggled off like in your screen shot. It's as if the Messaging app overrides the phone's notification settings for vibration.

got it. let me do some test on my end... are you exynos or snapdragon?

EDIT: I sent a SMS from my google voice number to my sim number (S10+ snapdragon) and it didn't vibrate. I'll wait until I get texts from other contacts to see if it varies by contact

Thank you very much for trying this. I am on Snapdragon. I'll try uninstalling the app and re installing, that may do the trick too.

you're welcome. I just had a brief text conversation with my wife and none of her messages vibrated. So it must be the app install or something else going on.

If you are within the conversation with your wife and click on the 3 dots at upper right to get into that message's settings, is that vibration toggle enabled or disabled? On my phone it seems this toggle is enabled for all contacts / numbers by default and overrides the "general" phone settings.

toggled off... on her convo and the one I was sending from my google voice number. so it seems like the master vibrate toggle kept these turned off as well

This is likely just a bug with Android Messages app. I deleted cache and data and then uninstalled the app. Then reinstalled the app. Then disabled vibration in the app's notification settings. Checked the "details" section within several chat threads from different people, and now within those settings each vibration toggle is properly disabled.

The funny thing is when I re-enable vibration within the main app settings, and then disable it, it does NOT stick when I look at the details for a contact within a conversation. The vibration toggle stays enabled, hence the vibration problem.

So it seems something is broken when toggling on / off vibrations in the Messaging app settings where disabling vibration globally doesn't always disable vibration within a contact's notification settings. The only way to fix this is to delete the Messages app cache and data. Then disable vibration. Then the global app setting will stick to each contact's notification settings.

Interesting.... you could always reach out to google to submit a bug report. I wonder if it happens on Pixel 3 or not?

Is this not self inflicted as you disabled the Samsung app and then chose another

For some reason, I somehow deleted the tiny menu under the notification panel that shows Bluetooth connected devices. Does anyone know how to get that back?
