Wow. Didn’t know about that.

Yeah only at John Lewis. Who are great to buy from anyway.
And the XL is £619 which is utterly crazy.

I always said if it went below £500 (what I got my Pixel 2 for) I'd bite.
And I'm verrrry tempted just to see how it compares to the P30 (camera wise).

It depends. In the U.S., If you have a Galaxy S8 or S9 that had carrier branded firmware and you had the carrier unlock the phone, it will automatically load the correct firmware brand when you insert the new SIM. It will also install the correct carrier branded apps (a.k.a “bloatware”).

If you have an unlocked model from Samsung, it should work on all four carriers without issue. But you may not have all the enhanced calling features like VoLTE, WiFi calling and Visual Voicemail.

The features you get depend on the carrier. I think T-Mo gives you all of them and AT&T gives you none of them. The other two give you two out of three.
I picked up an AT&T sim last night and no matter what I did, or what APN settings they told me to enter, it never went above H+ with a total speed of 70k / sec. The voicemail app didn’t work, nor did WiFi calling and the like. Requested a refund on that. It didn’t install any kind of carrier bloat when I put the sim in, so there’s that. I guess I’ll stay put for now and just enjoy my 2 bars of service here at home. I honestly fail to understand why this has to be so difficult. I’ll give Apple some credit here. The iPhone works the same way on every carrier. It doesn’t need some random firmware flash just to work. Of course, most of that is because they only have to write the OS for the products they sell, and the carrier only needs to test on a few models, but still. It’s a seamless experience.

@mjschabow don't know if you have bought your XS already, (and I may have you confused with another member as you may not even be in the UK) but carphonewarehouse are selling the XS 256GB for the price of 64GB - which is a nice incentive for more storage at less cost.

The difference in price could go someway towards AirPods 2!
That's how I'd be looking at it anyway but then I'll keep telling myself anything to justify tech purchases in my head! :p

Thanks! I'm in the US so I don't think it would have worked, but luckily, I had some gift card money at work that I was able to convert into an Apple Gift Card, so I saved a couple hundred bucks and just decided to buy new and get Apple Care. :)

Is this an S10 model? What carrier did you originally have?

Where did you get the SIM card? Were you at a Corporate AT&T store or an authorized retailer?

Here is an article on Samsung's support page regarding carrier switching. It applies to the S8, but I know it applies to the S9 also because I have tested it on an S9.

https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00078492/

I don't know how the S10 works. I do not have any information on this.

S10+ on Verizon, but unlocked. As far as corporate vs. reseller, I believe it was a reseller, and they were the one that gave me the SIM card.

Not sure if everyone has received it yet, but this morning I was prompted to install a biometrics update from Samsung which improves the FPS.

The rumors were definitely true, it's lightning fast now. For me, it's now almost even with traditional FPS in terms of success rate and speed.

yep, I got that one a few days ago. Initial impressions seem good so far.

If you are serious about switching from Verizon to AT&T Wireless, I would recommend visiting a Corporate owned store and see if they can help you.

It sounds like the phone worked, but you could not get LTE data. That could be something that AT&T may need to address in their system.

I don't know this for certain, but I assume that the Corporate stores have access to technical support people that are not available to the authorized retailers.

I'm getting the regular XS. The X was by far the best phone I've ever owned. It's the perfect size for me too so with some of the small updates that the XS has as well as dark mode coming soon, I think I'll have the willpower to stay put for a bit. Lol
I want to get the XS too but im scared of.the stuttering issue... Im using my old s7 now... Haha

So, on a lark I went to the T-Mobile store about a block from my place just to see if they had a random sim sitting around. They did. As soon as I put it in my S10+, LTE+, VoLTE, WiFi Calling, Video Calling, and Mobile Hotspot showed up. No mess, no fuss.

My S10+ did not, however install any of the carrier apps and what not. Fine with me. I like that none of the Samsung options are removed.

Have you restarted the phone since you inserted the T-Mo SIM? I'm curious to know what carrier logo screen you get when you restart the phone, Verizon or T-Mobile.

I swap sims often even with an international dual sim S10+

Although I never see carrier logo's I always get a message to reboot mainly so banking and offers are adjusted for country based on sim1 for me

The phone doesn’t rebrand. Still original carrier. Still asked for the original carrier apps upon initial setup, etc. still has the hard coded network name and what not. The only time it shows T-Mobile is when you’re on WiFi.

I’m still considering flashing the T-Mobile rom onto it. Just hate that it’s windows only.

Not to talk badly about the S10, but the one thing that completely sticks out to me now that I switched to the XS is the power button location. What in the hell was Samsung thinking with that location? LOL!

Hope I don't piss anyone off with that. Still an awesome device. :)

I actually liked it there. Now I have a P30 Pro, I keep changing the volume by mistake instead of pressing the power button.
