So I just read the Ars review and I'm genuinely quite surprised how much the reviewer dislikes the S10+. Ron Amadeo writes some good articles, generally seems quite fair in his assessments and is no Apple fanboy but his tone is like Samsung shot his dog.

I think there is some validity to much of his criticism but it seems overly heavy on a lot of it.

Question to those with carrier free unlocked models... Is there really that much bloatware? Some of what he described does sound brutally terrible if true.

I have an unlocked straight from Samsung S10+ with no bloatware...

The article is just a hatchet job.....

I would of liked to have categorised this article as click bait but he's so late to the party it was not even worth posting

Whilst regurgitating old hat under some pretence of detail which is obviously lacking

This is just one man's OCD venting and stifling of diversity

Best filed under toilet paper worthy

Sorry, couldn't resist when I read the comments about the bloated down ad infested, 1k+ crapware special...

:p

In all seriousness, I think every phone from any handset manufacturer could have the same thing said about them. Almost every device comes with unwanted programs, at least for somebody. Even my pixels have bloat I could do without... *Cough* duo *cough* some more then others

My unlocked s10+ came with Facebook and a lot of other useless garbage preinstalled. I was pretty salty TBH.

Got my OEM pink silicone case in the other day.

Love the feel of these but they are too minimalist for a butter fingers like me.

Still going to keep it for days when I am wearing slimmer pants.

My Samsung software experience just keeps getting better. I'm a solid promoter of Samsung's Good Lock. I can't say enough for the extra touch it adds to customizing my device. Task Changer component of Good Lock just got another update. The update adds another view for app switching, and it's the best one yet. It's a clean view and it gives maximum view of Apps. I love it. So while in the list view, you click on the app icon to get your options like split view, pin app, etc...I can't say enough of how impressed I am with Samsung's software. App pin is such a simple yet very useful option. Again, this is s 3yr old device, and it runs darn near flawlessly. Honestly can't wait for the Note 10 now. Here's a few screen shots of the list view I'm referring to.

So, I finally got a quicky hands on the + model at Wally Mart, surprisingly, the device worked and was not busted at all! It was lashed to the counter where I couldn't pick it up at all.

A quick look over the screen looked nice! The edge seemed to have a sharper curve to it then my s7e. Colors looked nice, seemed really crisp and was pretty fluid while being used. It might make for a decent upgrade from my s7e. It does make me wonder what the note 10 (or X) brings to the table (along with a 1200-1500+ sticker shock).

Yeah, it was bloated but most devices are nowadays. Would I get one? Not sure yet. Still eyeballing the note.

Would make the purchase a bit easier if Sammy unlocked that bootloader...

I have that case, too, and have the same opinion about it.

I hate that Facebook came locked in and undeletable on the AT&T model. But other than that I am okay with what has been preinstalled on it. iPhones come with a fair bit of bloat on them, too.

I haven’t had much to say about my S10+. It just works. :D I’m very happy!

Can one not just disable Facebook in App settings?

Yes, just disable it

I really find this almost OCD comments on so called bloat, you would think your 90K Audi is crap because a dealer put his name on your number plate

I have forgotten how many times Apple has requested me to install iTunes on my laptop

Really .. people are just clutching at straws to find differentiation between brands in the face of real advancements, features, options and user preferences

I agree, as long as you can disable it, there shouldn't be a concern. And boatware takes up a minuscule amount of storage space.

One issue some might have though, is that firmware updates have been known to enable what you manually disable . Years ago, when I was with ATT, they would do that everytime. Haven't experienced that since I moved to Tmobile. So depending on your carrier, it could be a slight annoyance.

Oh yea, dealership plate frames are the first thing I take off. I don't want the world to know where I purchased my car, and they not paying me for advertising.

I’ve been envious of my buddy’s S10+ for a few weeks now. I decided to stay patient, though, and I just placed a preorder for the 5G version through Verizon. It’s going to feel like a long couple of weeks waiting to get my hands on it! I can’t wait after reading so many positive things about the S10 in this thread.

GCAM working fine for me. The new build removed the wide angle lens option though...hopefully it returns.
[doublepost=1556290698][/doublepost]Got my s10e yesterday. Ben a while since I purchased a new phone, so I was really excited. Its been great! Only issues I've had was spotify widget in lock screen would not work - I uninstalled and reinstalled which fixed it. Had a hiccup once where the volume icon was stuck in the middle of the screen. A restart fixed that.

I love the size! Not a fan of the finger print location / power button location. A bit difficult to use since I'm a lefty. I do use my right hand about 30% of the time...the placement for my right thumb is good (could be a little lower but not a big deal).

I installed nova launcher because I didn't like the huge size of app icons in the app drawer and I love the gesture to swipe down anywhere on the home screen to bring down the notification bar.

On my S10e, I usually hold my phone with my left hand and interact with my right hand. I registered my left index finger (like it would sit on the scanner if holding with my left hand) and that works very well! I just pick up the phone as I naturally would with my left hand and my index finger pretty much aligns with the scanner right away so I then just press and it unlocks. I still have my thumb on my right hand register for times I pick it up with my right hand

Did you go into home screen settings and change the "Apps screen grid" to 5x6? Did that not make them small enough for you? My only gripe with Nova and the Pixel launcher is that the apps in the drawer cannot (at least that I have found) be rearranged. The apps default to an alphabetical listing, which is fine I suppose, but I wanted to experiment with arranging the icons via their colors.

I was referring to the app drawer and not the home screen...hopefully I didn't interpret what you said incorrectly. For the home screen I use 12x6 .

Too bad your pic doesn't load. 12x6 seems super tiny! :(

I do know you mean the app drawer, and with the stock launcher it's hidden in home screen settings when you long press on the home screen, because. . . why wouldn't it be there? :D

Haha I just fixed it! You should be able to see the pic now. When I say app drawer I'm refering to where you go to see all your apps (apps not on your home screen)

Haha. We are talking about the same thing I think. It's just wonky where Samsung put the setting.

Here are screens. The first is "home screen settings" and then 5x6 and 4x6 when you select the Apps screen grid (the drawer).

I usually only use my phone one handed, even when I had big phones. My pinky goes at the bottom, so my natural position have my index finger right below the camera at the back and my middle finger at the right edge below the finger print scanner. I might just have to readjust how I usually hold my phone. It's not a big issue and I might just use face unlock although it's not too secure.

I do wish we could have done 5 finger prints. Both thumbs and index fingers and my left middle finger.

Thanks! Funny think is I saw the home screen grid and changed it but didn't see the app screen grid which is obviously right below Haha.

Because I use my phone primarily one handed, I had to have swipe down anywhere on home screen to pull notifications down. So that was a big reason for me to switch to nova.

Don't get me wrong, one UI is really good. My last Samsung was the S3 and I've hated their UI ever since. I love the new ui now.

Gotcha. you can technically assign multiple fingers to one finger profile. I did that with my S10+ following this guide

So you could theoretically assign both thumbs under one print for the S10e.... both index fingers under one print, etc. I haven't tried it yet on the "e" but I might later today to see so I can add more prints as well.
