I'd like to know your thoughts. (Gets pitchfork ready)

My thoughts are overall very positive.
The devices look fantastic, screens look amazing. I love what they're doing with blue light in the screen, I love that Instagram is optimized and the camera SDK thing is open to 3rd party apps.
These are all the things with Android devices that I get frustrated with.

I think One UI looks truly fantastic - really like a nice medium between Pixels half baked gesture system and iPhone / One Pluses all in method.

Camera's look top draw!

It's the first time in years I've been tempted by a Samsung phone.

Do I think the stock icons look awful - yes. And I thought it before MKBHD said it. I am also fully aware having used Android before that they can be changed! It's just an observation on Samsung's change of icon style. They look like the big Fisher Price toy buttons on babies phones. :p
Come at me.

Am I a fan of curved screens? Not really.
Come at me.

:D

I know it’s not important to lots and I’ve previously stated why I like selfie shots to be good (when travelling & taking pics with people). It looks like the front cameras are again smoothing out details compared to iPhone & Pixel?

I don’t take selfies a lot so I’ve been skipping over what’s been said about the front facing cameras. However I understand where you’re coming from. My thing is portrait pictures and I’m a bit worried about what has been said about the changes on the S10+

I've decided to wait a bit on the S10 Plus. I want to see some real world reviews and see what kind of offers come about in the following few months. The deal of $50 off an accessory and free wireless buds is tempting but I'd rather just have it for cheaper! I'll be hanging around here to check out what everyone thinks.

I don't mean to sound like a broken record, but having owned like 20+ different smartphones over a decade, with half of those being a Nexus / Pixel phone or OnePlus, the other half being several Samsung Galaxy phones, and a few iPhone's.

On the Android side, it has mostly been this way for me, 9 months to a year into having a phone, and using it with more apps installed, and stuff that's been downloaded on the phone, certain phones can start to get extra laggy, like an old Windows 95 PC. I have to say my Nexus phones and Pixel's have kept being smooth one year later, maybe getting slightly very little bit laggy, but really not much. But...the Galaxy and LG phones absolutely would bog down over time. A year later and they feel like different phones, with hiccups, and slight pauses, and stutters.

The last Galaxy phone I owned was the S8+, and yep that had the micro stutters and slight lag here and there. It wasn't much, just a half second pause here or there, but I am hyper sensitive to that. Paying so much for a phone, it better be warp speed fast, and smooth as butter 99% all the time forever with zero lag. In my experience the Nexus and Pixel phones were lag free 80% to 90% still after one year. OnePlus phones even better a year later, still smooth. But my Galaxy phones after one year were lag free maybe 50% of the time after awhile. It seems Galaxy phones get worse the older they are. And some Android updates can really make them worse.

And the few LG phones I've had are worse than Samsung's. I have had the G5 and G6, and V30, Out of the box the LG phones are amazing, super smooth and fluid. One year later and a big Android update, and they can become stutter city, and radically different feeling phones. And LG sucks so hard on security updates.

This is just my opinion, but if you care for smooth, fluid, almost zero lag on your smartphone, in the Android world, I think it goes, OnePlus #1, Pixel #2, and all others way behind #3, or a Galaxy phone running a custom ROM is right up there too.

But like I said, the last Samsung phone I owned was the S8+ and that was still the old Lagwiz stutters, maybe the new One UI gets rid of that now? And before that the S7 Edge, holy cow that was unbelievably bad with stutters and hiccups, the S7 one of the worst performing smartphones ever. My entire office had them, and I was the guy setting up their phones, and always keeping them up to date, and all 12 of those S7 Edge phones had terrible lag, just horrible performance. And a lot of them kept the phone exactly the same way it came out of the box LOL. Same home screen wallpaper, same apps, like they changed nothing on the phone whatsoever the entire time, and they still were bad news.

Actually the cheapest phones of them all, the OnePlus smartphones I owned, were actually the smoothest most lag free phones of them all, a year later, heck 3 years later my old 3t is still crazy fast and very smooth. How can a cheap phone like this be a smoother fluid phone than the big companies ?

But again, this is just my opinion.

Very fair criticism and guess we don't know yet if One UI improves things. Hopefully it does but too early to tell.

I’m not quite sure what they’ve said about portraits?
They are no longer taken Using the telephoto lens. It’s a combination of the wide angle lens and the main lens.

From android central

“The whole Galaxy S10 series now uses this wide-angle camera, rather than the telephoto, in conjunction with the primary camera for Live Focus (portrait mode) effects, which means you don't get an aggressive crop on the field of view when you use Live Focus. (I've played with Live Focus, but haven't used it enough for a definitive take on how it's changed from the last generation.)”

Super saf says the portrait pics are not as closely cropped in his camera comparison video with the Xs max. I imagine they would be like the portrait pics on the Xr.

Just seen Kevin the tech ninjas initial impressions video. He said that portrait mode is improved and he said the AI mode in the camera automatically takes a portrait pic when he takes a pic of his baby son. This has made me happy :D

[doublepost=1551116546][/doublepost]WiFi 6 has me excited too. I have a lot of dead spots in my house so hopefully I will see some improvements.

I agree the stock icons on Samsung phones have always been pretty bad, but with that being said the first thing I do on all my Android phones is install Nova and apply one of my favourite icon packs.

One thing that I just thought of in my internal date to keep my new Pixel or get the S10+.

Does Samsung still have that annoying pop up when trying to increase volume all the way up? This "feature" angers me beyond belief! When I'm in my car's bluetooth, the last thing I want to be doing is have to hit "ok" and then keep hitting volume up again.

I've decided to do the same as well. The buds and $50 towards accessories are nice but I'll just wait for the price to drop instead. If I had an older device, I'd definitely jump on this deal but my S9+ will do just fine for now.

Got me hands on the S10+ in a shop for a moment the other day and I gotta say it's very slick looking. The hole punch in the corner looks way better than a notch imo and those minimal bezels make the aspect ratio really nice. I've kind of decided to not go along with these $1000 prices anymore so I just got myself a OnePlus 6T but when the Note 10 comes out based on these designs I'm not sure I'll be able to resist...

Won't you need a Wifi 6 router to see any difference?
I don't know. I asked about this but was told that I didn't need a new router.

Yes, you will need a new router (and new devices) to take advantage of it. WiFi 6 is just the marketing name for 802.11ax. They could have called 802.11ac “WiFi 5” but they didn’t bother with the pretty terms then.

Oh absolutely.
I like to think of myself as a fair critic of all devices. I've used Android more over the last 4 years than iOS and I think if I had to choose I'd go Android overall.
However I am enjoying being back on iOS at the moment and I think it's the break I've had from it that has helped.

But the 'lagwiz' thing always made me roll my eyes. My XR has been lagging a fair bit recently - launching the camera app etc, and iOS is meant to be untouchable for performance - or some would have you believe.

It's not just Samsung either - I was vocal about the Pixel 3 launch and my disappoint in it and it always felt like I wasn't allowed to post because I wasn't hyping praise on it. So I just didn't bother posting in there for a while.
You have a very unique aesthetic/style sense. From what I have seen in your interior photo shots you love clean, modern, efficient looks, form and function. But you are also bold with color choices and have a sense of fun and adventure. So I enjoy reading your take on the devices. I am far more laid back in such matters and would accept and even embrace many things you would not, but I like your standards and it gives me an idea what I could aspire to want for myself.

I don't want to spend $1000 anymore, either. Fortunately they offered a fairly generous trade in on phones we are willing to give up. So for us it brought the cost to under $500 for each phone with new wireless ear buds. There are so many wonderful discount deals available for Samsung phones and it gets better as the year goes on.

If I decide to stay with iOS for my other line I will not pay full price on an iPhone again, either. I will do trade ins.

Saw the S10 and the S10+ at my local BB and honestly I wasn't that impressed. They had the S9 right next to it and I could barely tell the difference between the 2 devices.

In the past I've always switched between iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S phones - but I always go back to iPhone mainly due to lack of timely updates, carrier bloatware and lagging after a few months that requiring a full factory restore and set up to fix which is a major PITA!

I believe this has more to do with the OS (Android) then the device itself.

I'll take a Samsung S10 or a Note 9 with iOS and that will be the ultimate smartphone! For those who got the new S10 lineup - enjoy!

Dammit. I just watched a couple YouTube videos and now I'm kind of wanting this phone. Do you all think it will be a huge loss in camera quality from the Pixel 3???

And do you think they would all ship faster than March 8th???

Someone was saying Samsung phones are only good for stationary pics (not motion) to your question. That video says otherwise....

[doublepost=1551127654][/doublepost]Look how stable the video is on the s10+ v iphone as the guy was running

Physical difference is not that massive but still there is noticeable differences. Internally they are completely two different phones.
