I have been really trying to love my Galaxy S10 for a full day that I have had it but the Google assistant integration has been a nightmare. OK Google works sometimes but every few hours I have to restart my phone to get it to work again. Also, it will not start playing music automatically when I say OK Google play Pink Floyd from spotify. It only opens up the app but does not start playing the music. Maybe I am missing something. Any suggestions?

IMO Google Assistant as been buggy lately across the board. I currently have a PIxel 3 XL which should run Google assistant as smoothly as any Android device and for the last month or so I've seen a lot of instances where it launches but doesn't pickup my voice or I give a command and it hangs while trying to process it. I can't say for sure that's what you're seeing but that's what I've been seeing.

Damn. I saw in a video that the S10E has the ultra-wide lens and now I kind of want one. Somebody save me from the depths of phone-switching hell. I assumed it has the standard wide and telephoto lens, but knowing it has the ultra-wide instead of the telephoto makes it that more appealing to me personally. I've been waiting for an ultra-wide lens forever. The flat display obviously is a huge plus in my book as well.

I'd be interested to see how the 1080p OLED is as far as crispness, compared to my XR.

All that said though, I don't think I could ever experience something better than my current setup of iPhone XR, 2018 iPad Pro 12.9" and Series 4 Apple Watch that would be as fulfilling for my needs.

It's a pretty nice display. I don't think the average XR owner is going to be disappointed with the S10e's display provided they can deal with a .3" screen size drop off.

I don't have Spotify on my phone but when I said play Pink Floyd on Pandora it worked. Just told me Spotify wasn't installed when I tried it.

Anyone coming from Apple CarPlay to Android Auto in switching to the S10?

I use AC every single day and love it. Curious if any big differences in the 2 and real world switching.

@nospleen (amazing buying experience :)) has a tempting Pixel 3 for a ridiculous cheap price which may be a better option to dip my toe back into the Android world but the latest and greatest S10+ seems to want to pull me in more.

I've used both and Android Auto is such a superior product it's almost not even worth comparing the two.

Thats good to hear. What stuck out as it being much more superior?

It's just quicker to navigate around on Android Auto, also notifications group together on the "home" feed of Android Auto, whereas on AC you press home, then go into (for example) each individual messaging app to hear your messages. On AA they are just all in a list on the "home" feed so can listen to whatsapp messages, then text messages, then facebook etc all with minimal eyes off road.

I can't think of anything off the top of my head, but when I used AC for a few days while my Android phone was being fixed, there were a few limitations with Google maps for example. I think Apple restricts what apps can do (and the way they look).

I am switching to Android Auto too. CarPlay works pretty seamlessly. However, the phone has to work with USB and doesn't work wirelessly. Android Auto is quite buggy with Mazda's system.

For one the layout is cleaner and more thought out. You get actual popups on the home screen that are useful such as a one touch buttons to places you might have searched recently in Maps. This is all based of Google assistant and learning your routines, calendar entries, etc.

The next is more of an Android vs iOS thing in that you can use different apps as defaults whereas Carplay makes you use the Apple defaults such as Apple Maps vs Google Maps.

But the big thing is Google Assistant vs Siri. Because auto modes are so geared at beings hands-free and not physically interacting with the display as much as you would a phone, a lot of the burden falls on the assistant to do things for you. I found Google Assistant to be 1000x better at doing tasks when compared to Siri. This is true for on the phone as well as when used in auto OS mode.

I use both pretty regularly, while I prefer Android Auto, it is not as reliable for me. It got a lot better with the Pixel 3 XL, but poor on my Note 9. Haven't tried yet on the S10+.

That because of Mazda, not Android Auto. I've driven a Mazda and a Honda that both had Android Auto and the Honda worked everytime without issue whereas the Mazda would show bug and have issues every once and a while.

To me they are both reflections of the assistants that are central to how they work. Google Assistant blows Siri out of the water and it's more apparent when in Auto mode than ever. Plus I find Carplay's layout bland with very little contextual information.

Crap, I hope Mazda fixes the bugs. I was looking to get a Mazda 3 as another car option soon too.

I hear ya, I just don't use the assistants all that often when driving. Usually listening to music or podcasts, using Waze or google maps. Just on reliability and working correctly, CarPlay wins for me. But yes, if you are using google assistant, you can do much more on android auto.

I’m surprised I’ve only seen one post so far about the camera. I know there’s more to thrse devices but thought there would have been a few comments at least!

I haven't been following pre-orders much but have S10's through Samsung been sold out for a while or are they updating it pretty frequently as they get more stock?

The S10 plus in white for T-mobile keeps showing up been when I add it to the cart it says it's no longer available. I don't know if this is an issue with the online system or if they are updating it regularly.

Could some one please check and see if this is working on the S10? Google was suppose to add a text magnifier to Android Pie, but It doesn't appear on my note 9 (Pie updated).

https://android.gadgethacks.com/new...style-text-magnifier-android-9-0-pie-0183328/

I haven't found anymore info on it, and its a feature that we could use.

If you are referring to typed text then its better than in your link just hold your finger on the text box and the magnifier follows your finger, no blue handles like for the C&P option

So the metal on the sides are colored based on the color of the phone? I thought the only difference in the S10 and Plus colors were the back panel and that the sides and fronts off all colorways were identical.
On the S9+ the sides are based on the color of the phone. On the S10 I can't tell for sure. I've read that the sides on the blue are baby blue but in indoor lighting they look silver. Now I would have to put it next to a white S10 to see if they are truly silver or a blue silver. The flamingo pink should have very coral color sides. Prism white had silver sides. Prism black had dark silver if I remember correctly. It was hard to tell under Best Buy lighting.

In other news I am having some trouble focusing on print on the new display. It's similar to the problem I have with the iPhone X series OLED display. Samsung must have changed something. :(

I wish my husband would remove that #$&! plastic film so I could be sure that's not causing some disruption. My vision is really sensitive. That doesn't mean my eyesight is great. I'm very nearsighted. My eyes pick things out and magnify them to my brain or something. I don't know. I might have made a great gemologist.

Oh well I'm not going to start panicking yet.

This is great feedback, I appreciate that and it qualms a lot of fears regarding the car transition.
Now to decide between a Pixel 3 vs S10.

Even without the assistant I like AA better. It's the little things like having full screen album art when in music apps or getting drop-downs when the track changes and I have Maps open.

Not to mention AA supports a far larger number of apps.

No problem.

I'm in the same boat. I currently have a Pixel 3 XL but I'm probably going to jump ship to the S10 Plus. I just haven't been impressed with the Pixel other than the camera and stock android for me isn't the draw that it used to be now that Samsung's skin as finally improved.
