Thank you both for the replies.

I mostly want notifications being pretty seamless, phone calls from the watch, and workout data as the primary reasons for the love of my AW.

I love Keychain and use it daily so I assume there is a comparison same on the Android side. Also, did anyone get headaches with the OLED iPhones? I get them consistently and curious if there would be anything different about the Samsung OLEDs. I thought I read that Samsung made the Apple panels.
Not the OLED but from having to look at my phone to use face ID all the time.

I've used both and Android Auto is such a superior product it's almost not even worth comparing the two.
Android auto is better because it works with any car!

Any place but here or there....
I held the s10e and I think s10 briefly at Best Buy this morning.

Pardon my slight tangent

Wow they are so lightweight. I couldn’t figure out the gestures to save my life though, plus I have one nagging question of downloading videos from google photos directly on my ‘Android’ phone:

What app would I use to watch videos on an Android without having to stream or use WiFi/LTE?

I don’t want invite developers onto my phone or my iMac again.

I really liked the feel of the s10 phones in hand. I’d definitely go with black (someone else mentioned the black Samsung logo on the white phone - um nope).

VLC player or either Samsung's own Video app.

The gestures are just replacing the old on screen buttons. It depends on your set up. The middle button is the home button so if you swipe up from the middle it takes you home. On the left is multi tasking, so a swipe up on the left takes you to the app switcher and a swipe up from the right takes you back. This is assuming that you are using Samsung's button layout.

For me the phone is a little narrow.

Narrow as in 2 handed typing? I had the S8+ or whatever it was called back in the day and this was a big complaint from me on the 2 handed typing experience coming from a Plus iPhone. It felt squished if that makes any sense

From my hands on with the S10 at CPW last week, I found the phone to be the perfect width and feel. Granted, it was the smaller one but I know what you mean about a phone feeling 'too' narrow.

That was the feeling I had with the S9 which I had briefly last year.

Having said that though, I did find the Pixel 2 XL to feel far too wide for me but my XR is virtually the same width which I've grown accustomed to. So it's definitely something that you probably get used to in time.

Can you leave GPS on an Android device w/o it having a huge impact on battery life? If so, what modes are good? I don't want to lose out on the Snapchat location filters and other things w/o having to go back and forth with toggling GPS on/off.

This is great feedback, I appreciate that and it qualms a lot of fears regarding the car transition.
Now to decide between a Pixel 3 vs S10.

Hmmmmmmmm

I've used both CarPlay and Android Auto extensively and don't find either wholely superior--I think it does carry based on individual use cases. Certain things are better on each.

I'll first preface that my experience with each is on a Honda Pilot.

I find CarPlay more touch screen friendly with big touch targets and fewer layers to dig through. All of your apps on AA live inside drop down lists, no home screen icons. That means when I have to access an audio app, I have to touch a drop down icon, then possibly scroll a page or two to get to the app. It's also easier to quickly switch to most recent apps on CarPlay.

I use Google Play Music and ironically it's much better on CarPlay. It's nothing short of a dumpster fire on AA with barely a fraction of the functionality found on CarPlay.

I also prefer how CarPlay doesn't require a Bluetooth pairing to my car. Even though AA is via a wired connection to my car, it still requires a BT connection. I spend enough time waiting in my car for my kids so if I pull disconnect my phone for use, it stays connected to my car. Little annoyance that is likely specific to just me. :p

Android Auto shines when using Google Assistant. She is far more capable than Siri, especially when searching info. Unlike Siri, who's limited to interesting with Apple's default apps, the Google Assistant can interact with more apps, i.e. navigate from Waze by voice instead of being automatically brought to Apple Maps on CarPlay.

That being said, my primary use for my voice Assistant when driving is to send messages or make calls and Siri has been very good at doing both for me.

If you're going to do all more by voice, I'll definitely give the edge to AA but I like the touch interface better on CarPlay. I can easily live with either. What I'll never do again is own a car without both of them.

Well poop. I tried reading this thread on my husband's 10s+ . It's a good thing we let him order first. After about one page I lose the ability to focus on the text in the posts.

I looked through the pictures in his Google photo album and my head felt weird. I compared the display to that on my S9+ and there's a small difference. On the S9+ the text looks still, as it does on my Pixel. On the S10+ it looks like it's buzzing, vibrating slightly.

Damn, they must have copied something from Apple. I was a little worried about that when I was reading about all the tweaks they were making to the display. And I did feel something was a bit off when looking at the display in Best Buy last weekend.

I'm not sure I had that problem on the S10e so I'm going to go ahead and put a pre-order in on that model. I won't get special deals but will still get a trade in on the S9+ if I don't cancel that order. I won't get a chance to get to Best Buy for another few days.

Okay I just went ahead and ordered the S10e. (Flamingo Pink 256 GB AT&T model) I could be wrong but I don't remember feeling a weird effect from that display. It's a bummer I don't get the earbuds and it's past the deadline for me to be able to use the $50 off for accessories. But I might have enough rewards points to get a case later. I'm going to get a tempered glass protector for it and a cheap Amazon case to keep it safe while I test it. I didn't have my husband cancel my S10+ order yet.

I used wired headphones more so the free earbuds aren't a great loss for me.

I'm not super bummed out or anything because I liked the S10e a lot in the Best Buy and it has the wide angle camera and the display is big enough especially with it being flat. I guess I'll miss the big battery in the S10+. And sometimes the zoom lens.

I still have to wait for the 15th and for the hold to be released on my preorder, due to me trading in the S9+.

I may still end up having to cancel out even the S10e . I wish I could get to the damned Best Buy today or tomorrow but it's not possible.

Oh I almost forgot, my watch Active shipped!

Fellow S10e owner here. So far, here are my thoughts on the phone after a day of usage:

  • The screen is gorgeous, even if it's only a 1080p panel with lower nits than its siblings.
  • I love how smooth the device's performance is, especially working with many apps at once.
  • The camera is fantastic thus far.
  • When I watched YouTube videos and Netflix, the picture quality is jaw-dropping gorgeous.
  • The stereo speakers are tremendous. Dolby Atmos is also helpful listening to music via the headphone jack.
  • Battery life seems to be decent, I had about 67% battery left after 6.5 hrs of usage that led to 1 hr 13 minutes of SOT, 1 hr 12 minutes of calls, 3 hrs 21 minutes of AOD time, and 57 minutes of Samsung Music.
  • Cell signal is weird because I have similar signal strength to a Note 9 (slightly weaker), but the download speeds are higher and upload speeds are lower.
  • No update yet to remap Bixby.
  • The device got decently warm with Android Auto and also when setting it up with about a hundred apps being downloaded.
  • The device feels really compact and the screen isn't so wide.
  • The facial detection isn't that consistent. It gets on my nerves a bit.
  • The FP sensor is too high, but you'll get used to it.

My S10+ case arrived today. Went with the ESR essential clear case. I have the same case for my 3XL and it's great. I see what @jamezr meant about the power button being a little high. Definitely higher than the 3XL but I think I'll be fine. Now all I need is a phone to put into the case.

The screen on the s10+ is certainly different to the S9+, i cant quite put my finger on it but I like it. I'm sorry to hear it was causing you issues, all the s10e reviews are very good so I think you will be very happy with it.

I forget, was yours an unlocked model? I know my husband already remapped his AT&T S10+ model's Bixby button to use Google Assistant.

Thanks for letting me know videos and Netflix stillook great on the S10e. I thought so but it's good to hear confirmation of that. It's so crazy I'm getting this fabulous phone for $317 (including sales tax).

Of course I have to trade in another fabulous phone to get that price. I will of course have to ensure I can use any display from this generation before I ship my S9+ away.

The battery life sounds more than adequate. It won't be the beast the S10+ is, but it will be good and charge quickly. Lower nits is fine because I rarely run my phones very bright.

I guess I can go with R2 D2 for my wallpaper. I think there's also a BB-8.

I'm not happy to have my choices narrowed down due to my wonky neurological problems. But I think Samsung offered me less painful compromises than Apple did to go from top of the line to the economy model. What remains to be seen is if I can even use this model. The displays are all supposed to be the same except for shape and resolution.

However there's a slight "thing" about the edges that I can't really articulate, particularly with that nasty azz film on it, that I found distracting. I guess it's a little bit of a glow from refracted light. I hope to find flat more comfortable for that reason alone. But yay, I will still get to use Edge features. I do actually use the Edge features. My husband forgets they exist.

After playing around with all 3 yesterday i would get the S10e so light and felt great to hold. Dont like the curved screens. They are already going for $250 below retail on ebay here and only released today.

Should be able to get one for 30% off soon.
