Still trying to sell my pre-order goodies from the note 9. Brand sealed in box AKG over the ear headphones, asking $50 and no takers 2 years on
My husband has finally managed to steal my AKG headphones that I got with my S9 plus. I wonder how long he’ll take to brake them.

The galaxy buds should be easy to sell though.

Yeah. The zoom figures are rather hyperbolic and underscore that we have reached diminishing returns for smartphone. Incremental all around improvements with disproportionate price increases.

I reserve my judgement until photo comparisons have gone live.
I think 5X optical zoom (which this phone likes has) is still a significant improvement over 2 x optical zoom.

Well, competition is fierce and the winner takes it all so you got to be ahead of your rivals.
But....we customers are a bit funny, if manufacturers didn't come up with something new we criticize them, if they did we still criticize them.

If s20/plus/ultra did not have the new camera how is it going to compete and distinguish from Note10, iphone, pixel and others ?
The new camera of s20 ultra is certainly one of its main features and selling power so .......
If the S20 didn’t have a new camera people would be complaining that Samsung’s camera’s are not as good as the pixel, the iPhone or Huwawei. Now Samsung have stepped up their game people are still complaining. Lol

Those Galaxy Buds+ are meant to be a huge improvement over the prior model. Nice bonus, but still, not so nice asking price.

Oh & I question the stabilisation of the camera with a zoom that large. How would you ever take a decent shot at 100x zoom?

Like the Huawei zoom, I can’t help thinking of it as stalker mode - where you just want to see something/someone from a distance, without necessarily taking a photo of them.

Reviews will be interesting.
I think the Huawei zoom is good for astrophotography. I think it depends on if you have a use case for it. The 30X zoom they showed at the event was very decent. There’s also a video floating about of the 100x zoom being used to zoom into a globe. You could read the writing on the globe really well.
[automerge]1581498828[/automerge]
The one I’d be interested in is the Note 20. I might go back to a 2 phone system until then so I could ease myself back into the Samsung World before I go cold turkey like I did last time. I could get a note 9.

I wasn't taking about the phones having the 100x zoom. Just the fact it's written on the module, which I'm entitled to think looks tacky.

Don’t a lot of professional cameras have details of the lenses written on them.

I only have one remark regarding the pricing. It is nothing new that there are one-thousand-dollars smartphones out there. But I really admire Samsung that it is not ripping the customers off in other places in the world. S20 costs EUR899 in Europe (around USD 981), while USD999 in the US.

What about iPhone? Let's see... 11 Pro costs USD999 in the US and at least EUR1149 in Europe (around USD1255), which is truly ridiculous. There are even some countries (e.g. Italy), where the official base price is even higher. Looking at you, Apple, why don't you take a leaf out of Samsung's book?

It's a shame it has "100 x space zoom" written on the camera module. It's a bit tacky and the kind of thing a child would brag about having.

I think he was talking about the words “SPACE ZOOM” being written on the camera module, not the inclusion of the feature itself.

If it was an amazing optical like quality as 100x, that would be something to shout about. But it's rather misleading and in my opinion, not needed to have worded on the module.

But it's rather misleading

How can you say its misleading before you even seeing one? I think misleading is a bit harsh because we have no clue the mechanical, technical and software operation of the camera. But from what i've seen its very impressive. I will post some videos from youtube.

Was fairly tempted by the Ultra (I'm getting sick of how buggy iOS is getting, requiring near daily reboots now).

Unfortunately, the price is just a little too steep for my liking.

Lots of strange comments on pricing :)

We have to remember there is no 4G only option, better screens, batteries, memory, chip set, camera etc

Now the camera sensor is significantly larger/better Samsung have more data to play with algorithms etc and binning to significantly improve post processing, just hope it's sooner than later

else

Usual lamo comments on depreciation which fail to consider true ownership costs, inclusions, trade-in bundles etc

I'm holding out for a Fold 2 upgrade with S Pen as I doubt even the new Note20 will be enough of a draw to replace my current Fold

Already pre-sold my ex, now the wifes 10+ for $600 and kept the $300 of goodies that came with it :) and will get her the new X-Flip, gold preferably as it's just too nice for her not to have :D

Yeah I usually take depreciation value out of the equation. It’s more of “do I want to invest this much to leave iOS, especially when I usually end up going back to it anyway?”

With that said, the Note 10+ was an extremely pleasant Android experience so I’d imagine this one would be a hit for me.

They've gone for a buzz word to make it sound incredible and plastered it on the module to make it look cool.

I know that there are some differences between the European and US models, but imho this still does not justify these blatant markups Apple is adding on top here in Europe. Honestly, I even think that the top-of-the-line iPhones might get even pricier just because Samsung also increased prices.

My initial intrigue surrounded the zoom camera (optical, not digital), the 120hz refresh rate and to a lesser extent, the larger display of the Ultra (I as much display as I can get ;)).

I’ve never been a ‘fan’ of Samsung’s mobile offering so even considering picking up a S20 off any variety is a big personal change. Limiting 120hz has significantly squashed the bit of enthusiasm I had and while I have ’reserved’ my chance to preorder, unless early reviews show the camera system has greatly surpassed the current offerings from Apple and Google, doubt I’m going to pull the trigger, especially considering the prices Samsung is asking.

Yep. They don’t apply the $1=£1 conversion that Apple do. When we were watching the unpacked event yesterday. My husband and dad who are galaxy users looked at the price and I said remember it will be a few hundred pounds cheaper in pounds and I was right.

We all know that this years 12 pro max or whatever it’s called will be more expensive than the ultra because of the 5G. Ming Chi Quo has already said that 5G will increase the price of the iPhones this year.
[automerge]1581512886[/automerge]
Don’t think people will really use 100x zoom. Quality looks rather blurry

The 5X optical zoom is a good enough improvement. Even the hybrid 10X was a lot better than I expected it to be.

Think I’m gonna pass on the S20 preorder. I’m not buying two flagships this year and I know I’ll be interested in one of the big releases towards the end of the year. Gonna get a cheap Pixel 4 XL from T-Mobile today instead.

If camera on s20/s20 plus is somehow great (and samsung made sw tinkering to equal pixel/11 pro), i will go for 2xs20 or s20&s20 plus and move whole family from apple to android dark side;) will wait for reviews

The S20 Plus is probably more comparable to my Note 10+.

I got some teenagers input on the Z Flip vs the S20. Teenagers say it makes more sense to go for the S20. I’d get significantly better specs for lots less money. I’m afraid I haven’t raised any Instagram Influencers the phone is supposed to be targeted to. Lol. Really nobody understands why I was even considering the Z Flip. They still consider it a prototype.

Eh, I just liked it.

You are a techy, it’s natural for you to want the Z Flip I wanted it to but then I saw that it only has a SD855+ from last year and I immediately forgot about the thing.

Lol, regarding Instagram Influencers, the only ones getting a Galaxy Z Flip are the ones getting it free from Samsung for promotional purposes. IG Influencers typically get iPhones due to the app being better tailored for iOS, there are some features in the Android app missing, and you can still see a significant difference between an IG Story video from an iPhone vs Android, I just don’t know why Facebook don’t fix this when Android phones have such incredible cameras.

It’s just marketing hype. We are able to see through it. It’s the same as Liquid Retina or the A13 Bionic chip n

Yeah, Telenor which is one of the biggest providers here in Sweden are charging LESS for the S20 Ultra than for the 11 Pro Max.

At MediaMarkt the 64GB Pro Max costs a little less and the 256GB Pro Max a little more, so you might say that there it costs the same as the 128GB S20 Ultra.
