Current reviews give you an idea of what it's capable of. Once it's released and reviews come out, then we can start judging it properly. And didn't the S10 have a pretty big camera update straight after release?

A little disappointed the 123 degree ultra wide has been reduced to 120. Although if that means less distortion, can only be a good thing.

Still think I'll prefer a Pixel shot though. lol

I’m almost embarrassed to admit I’m not overly bothered about the camera!

I hardly ever use it

I’m getting the phone:

1. For the screen size
2. Refresh rate
3. Because it’s new and shiny
4. My name is Yui4 and I am a phone-aholic

(reality is the reverse order is probably closer to the truth) ;)

Lol, "In depth tech reviews"..

Does a review with pre-release shop version......in the shop lol...
Hard to judge given it’s not final retail units but abit worrying seeing that comparison. Maybe Samsung still can’t get the software right when it comes to image processing.

Just hope all this isn’t just marketing as the review said...I won’t judge it too much yet until full reviews are out

But much like the number of megapixels doesn’t automatically mean better photo quality, same goes for video resolution. The little bit I’ve read so far seems to indicated that based on the file sizes of the 8K video, it’s recording at a comparatively lower bitrate (apologies if i’m not using the exact proper term). Essentially, I believe that implies it’s incredibly compressed and will not have as good detail as it could. People with much greater understanding of this than I basically are saying a 4K 60fps recording at a higher bitrate will provide better quality than a lower bitrate 8K 24fps.

I’m not disqualifying 8K as useless right now...it’s absolutely nice to have a future proofing option that means the video I take now will look better years from now. It just appears that this first stab at 8K might not be the best option.
I don't really see those as being the same to be honest. I mean you can have 108 MP camera an still take terrible pictures because of the hardware....the same could be said for recording in 8k or any recording.

But that was not the gist of the what was being said. Being able to record in 8K is a good thing it creates better images no matter if you watch them on 1080 or 480. Will 8K recording get better as the space evolves? Sure it will.....but to dismiss or denigrate something just because YOU might not see the value in it doesn't make sense to the rest of us that are looking forward to the new feature.
Don't like 8k....don't want 8k...great...don't use it :)

I'm not sure about trolls but that "review" is so claustrophobic to watch.
Anyway, not long until some real "in depth" reviews come out.

These threads do tend to attract people who, "aren't interested in the phone at all", then go on to tell you why they don't like it and how bad it is.
Yada yada gimmick, yada yada Samsung throwing everything at the wall (again) yada yada copying Apple....and so on..

So far seems like Samsung has a good phone to sell, hopefully people buy it.

The video looks amazing on TV too
Look at this video...great comparison to the 11 Pro Max
Fast forward to the 9:30 minute mark as seen below and he explains some of what excites me about 8K video. The screen grabs will be fantastic.

Eh, I think some people are being overly critical and some people are being overly defensive. Saying you don't think a feature is useful is hardly being a troll.

Agreed. Proof will be in the actual real world tests, which I am genuinely looking forward to. I was only commenting how on paper, 8K video recording might not yet be all it’s cracked up to be. Happy to be wrong about it.

Count me of those that's not interested in buying the phone, however I am interested in the technology that's behind it. Because I know Samsung is known to use "S" features in the Note series. But there's always gonna be those folks that come in the thread to give their opinion whether it's valid or not.

Please, discuss whatever but don’t let this thread turn into the show the Z Flip thread is turning into. So far, yeah there are some reasonable criticisms and observations. That’s cool. But I know trollful glee when I see it.

I haven't been into that thread, but I can only imagine. I recall seeing how people were overly critical of the Galaxy Fold... especially when reports of screen issues.

Then some just want to say something negative about a phone they are not getting.
Saying something like it is a useless or a gimmick is not really adding to the discussion or the pros and cons. It is saying their opinion as fact.

Some should be respectful that a feature or features might not be for them....but for others it might an anticipated feature.

Be respectful? C'mon man, it's a phone. Try not to take it so seriously. ;)

Frankly I don't give a **** about 8k and I think it's overkill. But I'm glad they added it as an option because some might. Despite what I think.

The whole JerryRigEverything results with the Mohs pick are being misrepresented to make it seem like Samsung is misrepresenting the glass display. It’s like people can’t comprehend that bendable glass is not going to be like the glass we’ve been familiar with.

I’m completely fine with discussing all of the shortcomings of any of these phones. I just don’t understand the need to rub people’s noses in artificially created controversies. There’s a certain tone when people try to do that. I am not getting a Z Flip so I’m not going to stay there and police that thread. I don’t have the time or energy and I already said what I wanted to say about that JerryRigEverything stuff.

But I am trying to figure out some things about the S20’s, so if I see that sort of thing happening over here I may actually start living up to my screen name. I strive to be kind and polite and normally I’m not easy to rile.

I get it.... you did this in the Pixel 4 thread as well. New phone comes out and you point out all the negative. It’s all good.

Nah, look it’s fine to explain why something like 8k isn’t ready for prime time. The discussions here on that have been helpful to me so I don’t prioritize that feature in any way. Like trying to budget money for a bigger SD card for it or spending extra to get the S20+ with 512GB just for that feature alone.

I think we all know what a troll tone is when we see it by now. Sometimes some really nice people whom I like a lot on the main forum come here and do that and I don’t know why. I guess there’s something in human nature.

It is fine to explain why you don’t like something on a phone and give your reasons. Just some people need to drop the tude or the tone about it. I wish I could say it better and more clearly than that.

Lol

I think if you look at my post history I point out the good and the bad. Btw, my daily driver is a Pixel 4 xl. And the stuff I said negative were the obvious ones I found from my own use like battery life. I also say it's the best camera still for most people.

I'm the same, not interested in buying but love reading about it.

Some people literally say they're not interested at all but still find the time to pour scorn.

I know it is surprising you got a P4XL considering all the negative you have said about it to be honest. Oh that’s right you’re just got it to use a a trade in right?

Yeah trolling is usually pretty obvious here. I think anyone that knows my post history knows that's not my style.

I'm critical when I see flaws in phones and praise when I seem something solid. I don't think 8k recording is a bad thing at all, just maybe not a staple that's needed yet. Just my opinion.

Yeah I have spent the last couple of days trying to figure out if I was going to need a bigger SD card and if so, what kind. Because I really want to preserve precious family memories in the optimal format that’s hopefully also going to hold up and look at least decent when I’m dead and buried and any possible grandchildren are viewing these videos and photos.

Looking around, there are pluses and minuses to the current state of 8k video and the pluses aren’t strong enough yet for me to prioritize this feature in my budget.

I was contemplating just trading in my Note 10+ and getting the 510 GB S20+ so I’d have enough room for 8k video.

I may still end up making that deal, but if I do, it’s not going to be because 8k video is a factor in the decision.

Nope, you're thinking of another guy. I'm keeping the 4xl.

I tried it previously and my only criticism was the price and the battery. But for the discounts you can get now it's great. I'm especially critical of Google because they do the absolute minimum and try to charge flagship prices.

I've actually defended Samsung on these boards more than any other manufacturer. I love their hardware and the direction they've been taking lately.

Out of curiosity, if you were on tap to get the ultra, why chose it over the flip z? I think if I was to drop that much coin, I might opt for something a bit more unique.

Meh, my s7e is starting to act up, the home button is acting like it's not registering presses and it's chewing battery a bit more and taking longer to charge... So I've been thinking, and there are not a whole lot out there anymore
