Out of curiosity, if you were on tap to get the ultra, why chose it over the flip z? I think if I was to drop that much coin, I might opt for something a bit more unique.

Meh, my s7e is starting to act up, the home button is acting like it's not registering presses and it's chewing battery a bit more and taking longer to charge... So I've been thinking, and there are not a whole lot out there anymore
I have a ton of really important milestones this year. I want the best quality camera available (besides pixel, or iOS which I don't care for).

The z flip is awesome, but I have 3 issues I don't care for

1.Useless front screen. Should be much larger.

2.Last years cameras

3.Flips the wrong way for me. I want a big phone that flips out into a even bigger phone.

Have you looked at the Surface Duo?
Not sure what the camera will be like though.

I have an s7 but not the s7edge anymore. The S7 was lagging a lot the last time I used it, I’m not sure why because it happened very suddenly. And it was chewing battery a lot, but it was a small phone and I was playing Pokémon Go a lot back then. I’d like to think I could still use it in the VR Goggles I haven’t used in a while. My main issue with it was that it was an unlocked phone and I couldn’t get ANY kinds of updates for it. Not even security updates. I didn’t realize at first I wasn’t getting security updates. By the time I found out I couldn’t return it.

I don’t know how Samsung is treating unlocked phones now. There could be some reasons I’d get an unlocked S20, namely they are only available in 128GB and both Samsung and AT&T load too much crap onto that precious space. I might be able to live without some AT&T services but losing timely updates is not a gamble I want to take on a phone that will cost me $700 even with a trade in.

Yeah trolling is usually pretty obvious here. I think anyone that knows my post history knows that's not my style.

I'm critical when I see flaws in phones and praise when I seem something solid. I don't think 8k recording is a bad thing at all, just maybe not a staple that's needed yet. Just my opinion.

I don’t see what’s wrong with calling something a gimmick. For some it is but for others it’s not...everybody is different

8K at this stage for me is a gimmick but for others it might not be and that’s perfectly fine. Down the line it will be a great feature but for me not at this moment

For these "really important milestones", why not use a good stand alone camera instead of a phone? Just wondering...

i personally have pro grade cameras as well but it’s still nice to want to have the best camera in your pocket aswell. Whether or not the ultra is gonna be no1 for now none of us know until the reviews and release day patches are out. But on paper it looks good and for some of us money isn’t an issue so I just upgrade twice a year anyway to whatever I want.

Did of you Europeans spot any of these in a store yet? I'm dying to get a few minutes with the Ultra. Probably won't go for it but I really want to see that new screen curvature as a preview for the next Note.

As an aside, I've never been bothered by the design of the back of any phone, camera bumps and all that. But they grey Ultra...man for some reason I just find it so damn sexy.

By the way Samsung's "A" series quickly catching up to be the 3rd flagship of the company. A90 now cost almost $1000 in Australian and its a pleasant flat screen phone.

Well I've spent the morning comparing indoor shots of my favorite cat for camera testing from my Pixel 3XL, my Note 10+ and my iPhone 11 Pro. The Note 10+ performance was embarrassing. Just for the interior photos of the cat. They weren't horrible but compared to the output of a 2018 Pixel, it's embarrassing. There are some software issues Samsung needs to address there. I'm eager to put their new cameras through the cat test! Basically you need a black and white cat that stands pretty still and challenging indoor lighting. 😆

My Note 10 best pics are indoors , am bit surprised.
It’s the cat. Stark black. Stark white. She’s been breaking cameras since 2010. The 11 Pro is my first ever iPhone that can render her fur nicely when she is in the dining room with dim lighting but harsh sunlight streaming through blinds. The cat that is gray and peach colored comes out fine.

The Pixels have been getting her fur right since day one with the Pixel 2. I think the S9+ did okay. I would have to look that up. When they tweaked the Samsung cameras to take in more light is when I noticed some problems with blown out highlights.

The same thing happened with iPhones, but since my iPhone XR, I noticed now their software compensates so I no longer get burned out highlights.

Unique form factor is great but at the end of the day, function is more important for me. A larger, far more durable display, water/dust resistance, significantly larger battery, and a much better set of cameras on the S20 Ultra are far more useful to me than a phone than can fold in half and carries a bunch of compromises comparatively.

And if my phone is going to fold/unfold, I’m in the same camp as @Mellofello808 and would much rather it transform from a phone into a tablet style form factor.

What an impressive AMOLED display! Of note, is that you’re able to get the high brightness levels to kick in outside not in direct sunlight which I appreciate, as well as when watching an HDR YouTube video. They lowered the ambient light level down to 20,000 lux.

My only disappointment is 383 PPI when using 120Hz and that I can’t have access to higher than 400 nits indoors. All of the AMOLED iPhone’s allow maximum brightness levels (630-800 nits) at any time.

Of all the things to question on new Samsung devices, the one thing I never worry about is the display. I ignore the specs and discussion because it will be the best on the market the day it's released as has been the case for the last 5 years.
