naming electronic devices has kind of become almost redundant

eg. the tongue twister wx1000xm4
AirPods Max which some thought would have been better as AirPods Pro Max

functionality and form proving to be of more significance

10...20...30... that doesn’t make sense to you? Lol what?
Well, there was a 1-9 before the 10 lol. And 2020, was the 20 so only makes some sense to go to 21, etc. Makes more sense than jumping to 30 but again, it doesn't really matter. I don't buy them for what they are called.

Wonder if Samsung still be making the S Series in 9 years time when we hit the S30, if they do i bet it won't be a candy bar style smartphone either foldable or scrolling screen.

Seems like Samsung is going to match the year now. Make sense as it is easily recognized by consumers. What's Samsung 2020 flagship? S20. 2021? S21. Seems like a good move marketing and brand wise.
Can’t wait for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 21 5G.
*waits for someone to get offended.

Not sure what's your point with that. This is about the Galaxy S21, which remains to be Samsung's main flagship. There's another thread in this sub forum for the Fold 3. 🤷‍♂️

Meh... I wish they drop the Z off the brand name. I honestly don't get it... I know Samsung need a moniker for it similar to how they use A and S series. But they could easily just use Fold akin to how Note is used.
Maybe it's a longer play for when they do make a Z fold = three panels?

I'm hoping the end game is a 10" tablet that folds into your pocket.

Nope, not buying that. Using the Fold brand name is still passable.

There's the Z Flip... which Samsung could easily drop the Z, same way with the Z Fold... not saying its complicated, its just unnecessary.

I don't disagree - but why did they choose "Z" at all?

Your guess is as good as mine. I do know they tend to use one letter alphabets like the A and S series. But I thought Samsung learned its lesson when they dropped the edge from their S series and went "S" alone.

I have a feeling the light bulb will reveal itself, then Samsung will use Flip and Fold for their foldables.

I imagine the long term plan is the Z as the main flagship and the S will be the new A series down the line...

I doubt that, unless foldables become the new standard for cell phones which I don't see happening. At least not for a long time.

I think they used Z to designate their fold line, S remains the Galaxy flagship line, and A will be their budget line.

Am i the only one who absolutely dislike the foldables ? I think they are not pocket friendly either.

To each its own.

The Fold 2 is pocket friendly, for me. Doesn't take much for me to fold it and put it in my pocket, its a satisfying experience tbh. I think the bulkiness of it can cause dissatisfaction to those not interested in it.

But its like the notch of the iPhone, over time you ignore it.

Not when its making a hole in my pocket 🙂
My Note+ even though its 6.8 it doesn't annoy me because its sleek.
Fair enough. Perhaps, you need to revisit what you wear ;).

But, just like the 12.9” iPP is criticized for being too heavy, I’ve been a user since day one. And weight for it was initially awkward, because for the most part.. I tend to take it with me. But over time, I’ve grown accustomed to it and Apple making revisions does help as well.

The pocketability of the Fold 2 was fine for me. My issues were more the lack of decent cases for a phone that cost 2k and the software lacking for what the hardware offered. But it's getting really close to being great.

Doubt it. Samsung has built up the S brand for such a long time. If foldables became the norm, what I would expect is the S line getting foldable treatment while the Z-line being dissolved slowly. The Z seems to be more of bleeding edge tech, while the S line remains the main flagship.

We already expect the S line getting S-pen support.
