I haven't ignored anything, I'm just questioning why a 0.2" extra screen size has to be curved. It's not a massive difference. And how a curve that distorts images/text displayed on it is genuine usable space.
So it was just a rhetorical question? Either way, nobody knows the answer, it's Samsung's design decision. You'll have a better chance at an accurate answer, by asking on Samsung's social media page. Anyone else can only give you their opinion, and as one poster already said, it does make a big difference in the feel. The 12 Pro Max clearly feels much larger than the S20 Plus. A lot of reviewers have called the 12 Pro Max too big and unwieldy. So those non-curved 2mm make a big difference in the hand. Whereas the S20 Plus, which is the same display size at 6.7 inches, has been considered the perfect size by many reviewers, and the one to buy out of the S20 line.

Still doesn't explain why they never give the Ultra a flat display. You'd think they'd want to keep their line up the same from an aesthetics point of view. Full screen viewing on curved displays will never look as good due to the parts that distort.

I would love to have a flat display S21 Ultra. Heck would have preferred my Note 20 Ultra to have been flat lol

Luckily I don't have the hands of a 5 year old, so have yet to own a phone I struggle to hold.
OK? What does that have to do with your question and a company's decision for designing the phone sold to the masses, and not just your individual ability to hold a phone? Smh.

I'll take a slight hit in the horizontal edge sharpness over missing content.
Rounded corners means full screen viewing isn't as immersive and add a notch and well, you're just not getting the full picture.

Preorder sign up for the S21 is available in the Samsung Shop app. They're giving me $700 trade-in for my S20 plus which is awesome. I'm all in on the Ultra.

I have to say, besides the s21 Ultra, the other models don't seem like a step up from the s20 and some are even a downgrade.

Samsung Shop app? We don't have that available in the UK although it sounds like a marvelous idea. Darn it!

So the S21 pre-orders are already up?

I think phones at the moment are more of a 2-3 yr upgrade cycle now fit the average person. I would consider myself to be more into tech than the average person, and even I'm now finding myself considering a 3 yr upgrade cycle. Before I would upgrade every year, but after getting the Note 10+, my next upgrade will be to move into foldables. That Fold 3 will cost me about $3G up here in Canada. Smh. The Fold 2 is currently $2800 before taxes. Pricing is out of control, and I'm definitely not upgrading every year or 2 yrs with that kind of pricing. I'll be moving to a 3 yr upgrade cycle, because I buy my phones outright. I won't be surprised if I even wait till the Fold 4 at this point. Lol. Honestly phones these days are so good, you really gotta be wanting the latest tech to keep upgrading every year.

lol. Seems to be the new Samsung way.
You have to pay to get the best and we will retard the other models and just put better specs in the biggest phablet we can. ??

Waiting 2 or 3 years to upgrade is definitely the sensible route. But those of us here are not that when it comes to tech, lol.

If I had to guess, this might be my last non foldable device. Unless I decide to go back to ios I've they up their phones to 120hz, I'll probably be getting the Fold 4 next year.

Well yeah sensible isn’t people here ha

Think the only android devices that tempt me will be the foldables now. Certainly if by 2022 is when Samsung make them their best spec phones

I'm starting to think the future of foldable are the slide on displays like LG is working on. It just makes the most sense for fitting a big screen in a slimmer device. With a book style foldable, you can only go so thin. With a display that rolls up inside you have more potential for a device with a profile closer to what we see today.

So if the S21 Ultra has S-Pen support, will it have all the pen features? If that is the case I might be tempted by it. I’ve also seen some rumours/leaks mention the Ultra will have a curved infinity display. On top of that the new Exynos is said to be better than that of current one.

If all of that is true, I wonder if there is any reason for the Note series.

If Samsung going to put support for the S-Pen on the S21 Ultra, I'm sure it will at least match the last year's Note 20 series features.

Surely they’re not calling it the S21?
I’d imagine they’re going with S30 or has it been confirmed that it will be S21?
Terrible name if so.

Because it's 2021? I assume that's why they called it S20, for 2020.
Really though who cares what they call it?

The A71 to me don't make sense but again, I don't care. I know what it is.

It was good idea to jump from s10 to s20 names for all good reasons. S11 would've been terrible but s21 is cool.
