Pixel has design defects that people should be weary about, just a fyi even though I do recommend it.
[doublepost=1504233479][/doublepost]I wonder how much the price drops on the S8+ by the time the iPhone 8 comes out? On price alone, the S8+ is a much better value because it simply offers fantastic hardware at much less.
[doublepost=1504235522][/doublepost]For those who are happy with their S8+: how do you handle the occasional micro stutters or device lag? Slap on a new launcher? What about the inevitable Samsung bogs? Do you factory data reset or wipe cache partition every so often to detoxify the Galaxy from having anything bogging it? What about the updates, as long as the updates occur within a month or so from the Nexus/Pixel (monthly patches for example), you're content?

Do you just focus on the great hardware, tons of software features, and forget the rest since Samsung is miles ahead with features and hardware that it is not even funny? Do you feel the Samsung Experience software is so advanced and feature heavy that OS updates do not mean anything anymore?

Anytime I notice any stuttering or lag, I restart and it goes away for a week or so. I don't know if it's an app installed that causes this to happen for me, but restarting fixes it. I don't notice any micro stutter in daily use.

I am using Nova Launcher and stock Google apps. I have a close-to-stock Android experience. Honestly I'd rather have completely stock Android, but until someone releases a device with hardware as good as Samsung, I'll just stick with Samsung. The Pixel XL 2 might be great, but I think it's going to be larger than what I want to carry. I like the size of the S8.

Haven't posted in a while guys and was pissed about the micro studders going back to home screen my Verizon version phone was having.

2 of my coworkers got s8s but for different carriers and there phones ran perfect while mine had micro studders going to home screen.

After today's August updatey phone has finally fixed them and is running 10x better.

I can't believe it took Verizon this long to fix it.the phone is an absolute pleasure to use now and runs so smooth and clean.its the only way to explain it.

It's an awesome buy right now alsp
Yeah my AT&T version had that same stutter issue and the last update I installed from AT&T/Samsung fixed it right up. It works beautifully now, though Pokémon Go continues to cause problems on both my S8+ and my IPhone 7 Plus. That app freezes my Samsung camera and overheats my iPhone. It's a fun game but wretched app.

Can I check any of you have issues with some apps having "internet connection not available" problem eventhough wifi/4g connection is ok. After reboot the problem goes away but then recurs again.

Any fix?

I hate this phone. I have had it for three weeks. I am using three different apps for text and video. I hate all of the keyboard apps. The pictures that I take look oversaturated and unnatural. The app quality on Android is pretty bad. I was finally able to totally disable the Bixby button so that is positive. Everything just feels messy.

I did like the Smart Switch that allowed me to transfer everything from the iPhone. I truly miss iMessage and Facetime. I have gone back to using them on my Macbook Pro lol. The design of the S8 is quite nice and the screen is amazing. I cannot wait to get an iPhone 8, though.

Did you use GBoard to make this post on your S8? The reason I ask is that I had trouble posting to this forum using GBoard on my S8+. It made my texts change sizes when I would go back to correct my many typos. That is indeed frustrating.

I take my photos on both the S8+ and an IPhone 7 Plus. I have conducted many tests of shooting the same scene under different lighting conditions. I use Google Photos to view them on my iPhone 7 Plus screen and in terms of saturation, there is very little difference. There is some, but not to the degree people would expect based on past Samsung photo software calibration. It has taken me much practice to even be able to tell which phone camera took which picture. My guess for the reason you're seeing so much saturation is that you're viewing your photos on the S8+ screen in one of the boosted display modes. Samsung toned down the artificial look at least for the camera.

I also missed iMessage when my husband was using his S8+ exclusively and we used Textra and WhatsApp. I rarely use FaceTime. But the kids swear by it, so I don't blame you for missing it. You gotta go with what works best for you. At least you gave the S8 a fair shot. Best wishes on IPhone 8. I hope to give that one a try, too, but we shall see. I need to replace some appliances :(  so now I'm looking at different budget considerations.

It sounds like the whole world IS on WhatsApp. The problem is that's far from the case in my neck of the woods in the USA. Almost everyone I meet is on an iPhone using iMessage. I know exactly one other mom on an Android. She's on an older model Samsung because she travels home to India on a regular basis and IPhones don't do what she needs, whatever that is. She told me, but I forgot.

I have to say, I always like to read your posts here on the forums. No bashing, very informative, objective, not biased. You often compare devices you have, and write your experiences in a nice way to read.

Keep up the good work, you Grumpy Mom! :p

I don't use Whatsapp because I steer clear of anything owned by Facebook. I don't have a Facebook account and I don't use Facebook Messenger.
Ack, I forgot that they are owned by FB. I find Zuckerberg so very creepy in his seeming obsession to have every single danged person in the world connected to everyone else. Sometimes it sounds like he's hellbent on creating Skynet. Jeez.

I have tried Gboard but I am back to using the Samsung keybaord. I will try and view the photos on my computer and see if that helps with the oversaturation. Thanks for the suggestions. By the way, I always enjoy your detailed posts.

Oh thank you for the kind words...alas I do seem to have an anti Facebook bias. I liked it in the beginning but it became seriously manipulative in terms of social engineering techniques being employed on the service and I found the software becoming too intrusive and difficult to lock down.

Don't forget you can set your s8 to auto reboot once a week. I set it overnight.

Pokeman Go, lol. Sorry that made me laugh. Seemed like a gimmick and I don't get the draw. Just haven't seen it mentioned in a while.

Well at least I still play it pretty much every day :) When they introduced raids, it increased the social aspect of the game. Just a couple of hours ago I was in a raid with people aged from 6 to 50+ participating and it was a nice bit of fun.

But this is going offtopic now.

How do you back up your S8? Like contacts, pics, what's app messages?

Right now I'm using Google Drive. I hope that it's backing up everything, but I haven't gone into the app to check yet. There's also the Samsung Cloud. Also, Dropbox probably works for back up.

Went back to the IPhone 7+ for a week. More on that later but the iPhone camera is pretty bad compared to the S8+. Video is okay, but photo image quality is dreadful.

The S8 is detailed with rich colors, depth and sharpness. The iPhone 7+ was murky, bland, flat and vague in comparison.

The difference is really quite shocking and something that really stands out when you live with both devices for an extended period of time.

If photos and video are your main concern, don't even bother with Apple and go right to the Samsung aisle.

I still deal with a decent percentage of blurry pictures from taking quick shots on my 7+. Never experienced a blurry shot yet on my S8+.

The 7+ also has much less detail in distance and lower light pictures. People complain that Samsung shots are oversaturated, but you can fix that pre(with manual) or post(with any edit software). What you can't fix is bringing back detail the a shot never got in the first place. Also from the countless reviews I've seen, it seems the Note 8 pretty much fixed the oversaturation on auto mode or at least toned it down greatly.

The next batch of iPhones will need faster auto focus, have more detail, and amp the colors up just a small notch. Otherwise, it will lose to the Note 8, V30, and even still the S8+ in comparison.

And this is coming from a consumer that only knows the basics of photography.
