What apps do you guys use for breaking news, generals news/politics?

The CNN app? I know there are so many different outlets...but its hard to find a decent news app that is bias free and isn't agenda driven!?

If you want agenda free news, give up. Seriously. It doesn't exist. As long as the news is delivered via humans, their bias will show.

Whether I think a news app is bias or not doesn't matter to me. I rarely open news apps, I just want to notified of global, national, and local major events. And the CNN app is always the quickest.

Which basic apps exactly? I know a lot of people who aren't heavy users but they differ largely in terms of apps they use, from Netflix, Apple Music to Video and Image Editors etc etc...

So who are these most people and what these basic apps they use?

I always read of people talking about "average users", and I ask myself, in 2017, what does an average user do exactly??? I work with people who you could call"average users" as they don't really care about the latest phones, they just want a phone that does calls and emails, but when looking at their phones one of them is an avid fisherman and so he has all kinds of apps for that, while the mothers have all kinds of games and educational apps for their kids.

Each time I see different people's phones I see different apps for all kinds of things. It seems to me very few truly stick to what they get.

So exactly what is an average user? And can one guarantee they use Call, Email and text only???

Pretty much core functions, web browse, text, call, music, GPS, photos, video playback, etc.

If Samsung can do well with Exynos and Qualcomm processors, it's good for competition. Apple isn't a slouch either. Either way, the speed difference is negligible enough to avoid weighing it into a phone purchase since it's all about comfort with usage.

The CNN app is definitely the quickest. I used to use Smart News back in the day and that was a good one two but it's been a while, so I couldn't tell you about notifications. But it does pull from many sources so if you want balance, you could always pull from CNN, MSNBC, and FOX at the same time. I'm guessing the notifications would be driven by each source though and not the app.

Fox News. Couldn't pay me to watch or draw info from CNN.

All politics aside, Fox notifications work great.

How's everyone finding their Note8s?

For me it's been well over a month of solid performance, I feel so confident in this device as my workhorse, no weird issues at all and it takes being run hard like a champ!

I am travelling down to Cape Town tomorrow for the Huawei Mate10 South Africa launch, but I am also going to have to go into my company's Cape Town office to get work done and then Tuesday morning I am flying back to Johannesburg, its going to be one truly hard 48hours with my Note8, will be see how she holds up as some of my work will be done on my phone when I any be in my laptop.

With all that being said, I've already had many days where I've had to split work between my laptop and Note8, and it just continues to prove itself as a really power users tool.

I would agree when speaking about those type of tests. But the test that Tsepz posted was more of an one by one, app vs app test. So IMO it was pretty accurate in the depiction of real life usage.
I haven’t even watched the video as I don’t think these speed tests are useful however my thoughts on ram are just my thoughts based on past experiences.

Best phone I've ever owned. Besides the fact that it's still very smooth well after a month in, the fact that I can just take out a pen and quickly illustrate something is great. I'm even going to use it for flag football coaching to draw plays. Lol

I like USAToday's app for quick news updates. They seem to be fairly neutral. I don't think there is any real news reporting anymore. I even gave up on Google which had been my primary source and feed for years until the last election cycle when it was clear they were feeding me stuff that I had tried to filter out. Also their new format is terrible.

I love my Note 8. Early reports of the problems people are having with the Pixel 2 and X, together with the great Note 8 experience makes me very happy with my choice.

What app do you use for your note taking/writing notes?

I use OneNote. I can do pen based notes on my Surface Pro and Note 8.

Iris scanning is going to be great all winter long. No need to remove your gloves to unlock your phone.....just take it out of your pocket and look at it :)
How do you make that happen? I have to hit the power button and pull down the screen for Iris scanning to kick in.

Glad to hear it mate :)

It's a beast of a thing :D

I cannot believe a device like this that is so feature packed is near faultless at release. I just keeps chugging on.

Haha, check this out, Note8 Iris Scanning is faster than FaceID in iPhone X watch the whole comparison, the Note8 obliterates the X:

I've been saying it for a while now. People that keep calling out "TouchWiz" have no clue what they are talking about. When it comes to user experience in tech devices, things change. Not always, but mostly for the better. Samsung has made huge gains in their software, and it shows. And it seems Apple is going backwards with their user experience. The X is a mess of unintuitive gestures. But the difference is, the tech world and Apple users won't complain. Just look at the reviews, they all say we all just have to get used to it, including the notch. No other manufacturer gets so much leeway. Lol

Dude! It's insanity!

When a feature sort of works on an iPhone we have to get used to it even though it's a backward move to the feature it replaces, but if this was a Samsung we'd be reading endless complaints and how it's not a match for the iPhone, and they Could've , Would've and Should've this and that. Haha!

The people who were talking up FaceID right in this forum have also gone dead quiet now. Lol there is even a thread in the iPhone forum about FaceID unlocking with people's siblings (not just twin's!) You need to see the excuses in there, OMG

Look at this, pretty sure Iris Scanning wouldn't make such a stupid mistake
https://forums.macrumors.com/index.php?threads/2084056/

This is amongst countless threads of FaceID not working while in bed or when sideways etc etc...

But I guess they'll all just have to get used to it

I saw this several times in iPhone X videos...Iris scanning is faster. One of my friends has the X and we tested it side by side..... Iris scanning won every time.

Incredible, yet people were here not long ago claiming FaceID was years ahead of anything else, yet it's not even a patch on Iris Scanning

Samsung really need to make this clear and I hope they stay clear of all this Face Recognition crap, unless they can get Face Unlock and Iris Scanning to work together to give an even more Secure version on Facial Recognition.

There needs to be a law put in place about companies making bogus claims such as the ones Apple made about FaceID as clearly it isn't as good as they claimed neither in speed or security.
