Looks like those of us stuck on the August security patch will be getting an update soon

I don't care for the X either. The sad thing about it is that Apple buyers will be stuck with that design most likely for 4+ years, given how long they've stuck with the 6 and 6+ design.
I'm just not feeling the X at all. I've been underwhelmed since it leaked and seeing the review videos now haven't changed my mind.

Not only is Face ID slower but also security is rather poor and it's more restrictive as far as things obstructing your face when compared to iris scanning.

Very poor security allowing access to a completely different person

Restrictive with winter face cover, having to remove helmet, wet hair from showering/swimming, etc. (forward to 3:40)
Oh dear

Samsung continues to be the top smartphone maker in the world by a huge margin.

Oh wow, quite a bit of growth there to.

Incredible job by Huawei though, I am honestly waiting for them to dethrone Samsung, in the next 2-3years, I beleive it will happen.

Currently waits for the usual suspects to claim it's fake in 5...4...3...

Still loving this phone. The only thing that really bugs me is the standby drain. I was using my iPhone 6s (work phone) for the majority of the day while the Note 8 just sat there for the most part. At the end of my work day, they both had the same amount of battery left even though I barely used my Note and was using my 6s for work the whole day.

Still loving this beast to :D Indo however need a larger Memory Card, my 128GB is running out of space, too many YouTube videos downloaded that I need to catch up on

Something that I really like is how even when I forget to Disconnect my Samsung BT Headphones when I get into my car the phone knows to route the audio to the car even though both my Headphones and Car are connected to the phone via BT.

Sounds like there's an app that has gone rogue. Have you checked in Device Maintenance what is going on?

Which phone are you getting?

iPhone X.
Why are you selling it, thought you really liked it?

I did until the litany of issues I have showed up: terrible battery life, keyboard keeps mishandling apostrophes and words, phone randomly freezes and reboots, contacts aren't working properly, Samsung quirks, the lack of support/updates, and my worries about the future of the device.

I am also getting the itch to switch to the iPhone X since it just has an immaculate display, nice build, and is receiving great reviews.

Anyways, Samsung quirks get on my nerves more now that I have experienced issues. Wi-Fi cannot be toggled on and off without bypassing the lock screen. When I use my phone to surf the web while I am on a call, my screen begins to flicker a ton (all my Samsung devices have done this in the past). Then there is the volume warning message when you're listening to music. Or when you use GPS, I always get a 2nd message regarding turning on another location service (Samsungs do this quite often).

I really wanted to like this device and use it for years to come since it has more hardware features and software features than any device I have previously used, but that isn't everything. I have to make a trade off for long term software stability. Samsung continues to deal with carriers and Qualcomm. Using an Exynos device carries too many compromises like warranty support and Samsung Pay. The iPhone does a lot less and offers a lot less, but it is the device best equipped to last me the longest since Apple's support is unmatchable.

Before people say "what about the Pixel?" Well, the Pixel XL 2 is too expensive for what it is and what defects it has. If I am spending that type of $, might as well get the iPhone X. The Pixel 2 is fine and all, but I want a device with better support than getting a Kraken patch by December when Apple already addressed the issue. Plus, the Pixel 2 has awful bezels, a 1080p display, less support than an iPhone, and doesn't integrate with my Mac as well as the iPhone will.

The iPhone will allow me to be happy and think less about phone ownership like am I getting Android O by such and such time? Will Samsung take advantage of Project Treble? If it has major software bugs, how long will it take for a fix? Why did Samsung make Bixby and why does it take too many resources?

With the iPhone, Apple is quicker with updates, support its devices longer, and has much less worries. I just need to really know when is WWDC and what is in iOS 12. I am just going to cut down on reading into tech as well since I will be more focused on other things and be able to enjoy my future iPhone more. Sorry for the essay, but I just have to make the compromise of less headaches to be happier at the end of the day.

I'm really thinking about going with the iPhone X too. I initially wrote it off but after playing with it in the store, I was hooked. Agreed on a lot of your points. Samsung is so close but not quite there for me yet. And like you, the battery life is just killing me.

@nviz22 Sounds like maybe you have a faulty device, rather than typical behaviour of the Note in general. And why does the Exynos version have warranty issues?

In Mr Mobile's review he said face ID wasn't any better than facil recognition on the note 8.

Well, to be more accurate, he said at the beginning of the video that during the initial first few hours of use he found it ‘on par’ with Samsung’s but after prolonged use he found in most cases that FaceID is so fast ‘I don’t even notice it working.”

From my own personal experience, I can say that FaceID certainly isn’t any faster than using TouchID—the overall unlock action is likely slightly slower due to the need to swipe up. That being said, I don’t find unlocking my phone laborious or slow and that FaceID has for the most part just blended into the background of my use. I’m just using my thumb to swipe instead of locating the FP sensor. I also prefer its use for app security/authentication as I just open the app and it does its thing.

Overall, I’m not finding FaceID significantly better or worse, just for the most part seamlessly replacing the functionality previously performed by TouchID.

Good luck with the X. Sounds like that is what you really want.

I have had none of the problems you listed... zero of them. So I have to conclude that something is wrong with it, or you loaded up some things that caused problems. It also sounds like you are worrying a lot about future updates, etc. I am not really concerned about that stuff unless I were to have some reason to be.

My experience with the Note 8 has been outstanding.

It does quite fast in the videos.

I got the X yesterday morning. FaceID is a lot faster than I thought it would be for sure. The unlocking process is not quite as fast as TouchID on my 8 plus because you still have to swipe up from the very bottom. It has to be the very bottom or it won’t unlock. I wish Apple would let us swipe up from anywhere to unlock. FPS is still faster though. I can find the FPS in my pocket and have it almost unlocked before I raise it.

Completely agree. It gets pretty cumbersome having to reach all the way down and swipe up. Even an option to bypass the lock screen after authentication would be nice.

What kills me the most is how Apple hasn’t fully embraced the OLED screen’s capabilities. The WHOLE screen still lights up when a notification comes in...very unnecessary. Not to mention that notifications on iOS are still a hot mess.

I’ve got another few days with the X and I’m pretty sure I’ll be returning it I’ve been spoiled by the S8 so none of these new hardware features are as enticing to me, and $1250 is a little too steep for me to use the X as a secondary device.

Edit: One feature I do have to give kudos to Apple for, is the private notifications.

Interested in my Note 8 and Gear S3 for trade for your X? Not sure if an at&t iPhone would work on Verizon though.

It's probably a bad software version, but I can't change how bad the signal is in my area + standby time Samsung uses on idle battery, so it's just a safer option to go iPhone X w/ Wi-Fi Calling + airplane mode to extend battery life in a pinch as well. But then again, it's also a hardware limitation with the battery capacity in the Note 8, so it's more of a combination of issues that makes it easier for me to say bye to the Note 8.

T-Mobile dropped the ball on unlocking my phone since it is fully paid off and meets their requirements. I only got a temp unlock.

I am not looking forward to the swipe up after FaceID, but I think Apple might end up revamping FaceID 2nd gen into being a huge leap like 2nd gen Touch ID was. Plus, they could do a fast option like iOS 9 included and that can bypass the swipe up. Or perhaps it is designed that way to truly protect people against would be criminals.
