Just a heads up to everyone.
Yes the note 8 is a great phone, but beware if you buy from Samsung directly, and want to return.
I bought the wife a Note 8, unlocked. The phone was having all sorts of problems, and a factory reset didn't fix it. It also was struggling with wifi calling, mainly sms & mms, on T-Mobile (likely due to being the unlocked version). I was going to try and trouble shoot the problem, but the wife got frustrated and got herself a Pixel Xl 2.
I sent the note 8 back within 6 days of purchasing it. The Note 8 was/is in pristine condition (I have the pictures to prove it).
They denied the return (but accepted the return of the bonus accessories). They gave me no reason for the denial, and the Samsung reps couldn't tell me the reason.
After a few calls, I was told by the reps that the phone wouldn't be sent back to me. Then, when the I got a notification that the phone was coming, they told me to accept it and they would send me a return label. They said that it was all a big mistake, etc, etc.
The phone came back, with a slip stating that the phone was damaged. Again, I have the photos to prove it is fine.
So when I got the phone, I called them back. One rep said that it was "out of their hands", I "may or may not get a return label" depending on the warehouse's discretion, "its now past the return policy", and that "there is nothing they can do". I asked for a manager, got put on hold for an hour, and disconnected. The next rep told me that "I should get the label", and that "there must of been a mistake"...essentially the complete opposite.
I financed through Samsung, thus I don't really have a credit card company to fall back on.
As such, I have no idea what will happen, and just have to wait "4-5 days" to find out. I might get a return label, or I might be stuck with a $1000 phone. Also, as a side note, they received the return on the 6th of November, and didn't reject it until the 23rd of November.
Contrasting this experience with my recent experience with Apple, it is night and day.
To make a long story short, I switched from Sprint to T-Mobile. My iPhone 8 plus (I have an X now) was bought from Apple, and completely paid off. Somehow, sprint locked the phone when I left the carrier. Apple couldn't carrier unlock the phone, and Sprint wouldn't help me since I closed my account. The iPhone 8 plus had been purchased almost 2 months ago. This wasn't Apple's fault, but they gave me a FULL refund anyway.
Again, night and day.
I won't be buying from Samsung again, which is unfortunate. Hopefully the situation is resolved, but no matter the outcome, I have learned my lesson.
