Guys, you have no idea how great it is being back on the Note8
I have now put my spare SIM in the Huawei Mate10 Pro review device and comeback to my Note8 as my main phone.
As I have said before, the lot of us take Samsung display panels on Galaxy devices for granted. Don't get me wrong, the Huawei is a fantastic device, I simply cannot fault it; the battery goes on for what seems like forever, the UI is fast and smooth. The phone in some instances is MUCH faster than the Note8 e.g. switching between 4G and WiFi, the Huawei obliterates any Samsung and Apple devices I have used, when going between the 2, also in Finger Print Scanning is faster.
RAM management is also better on the Hauwei, well I say that from the point of view of more memory always being available at any given time Vs. Note8. With the Huawei it barely even used more than 2.7GB RAM, unless I used the Camera, then it would get to around 3GB RAM (50%) used, but this was rare. Whereas the Note8 easily uses between 3.5-4GB RAM on averag. Either way, these are not iPhones, so no apps get dropped while multitasking
But, the Note8 is so much more refined, has all these extra little features across the UI that I have become accustomed to that I am shocked some Androids still don't have across the UI, e.g. a Clipboard that is always available. Samsung since the S3 days has had the Clipboard available at every point you can enter text, no matter where you are in the UI you can call it up and browse what you want to paste.
Also, the navigation keys on the Huawei feel more intrusive and unlike Samsungs, the ones on the Huawei do not drop down when you are done with them, they stay right there and you have to manually hit the hide button, which really got to me, it's just not as intuitive as Samsung's setup.
The Display size and quality of the Note8 is just on a whole other league vs. the Huawei. I am currently building my own brand on Instagram, and I am also very particular about fonts and UI zoom, and with the Huawei I found that I could see the Display imperfections in Instagram and when using small fonts and it got to me as I am used to the Note8 and S7 Edges smooth and sharp images with no pixelation.
The Note8s display size is another point. The Display being so tall makes it much easier to fit more content while doing more on the display, I don't know how to put it, but the tallnes is less restrictive on the Note8.
The SPen, this was dairly missed , especially when editing images, trying to get content from images and generally being more productive.
Battery Life is comparable. The Note8 seems to eat less battery in standby vs. Mate10 Pro. The Huawei seems to really drill through its battery overnight, I would got to bed with 50% and wakeup with around 40% charge remaining. With the Note8 I can go to bed with 50% and wakeup with 45-48% left.
Both phones can easily do a Day of heavy usage.
One more thing about the Display, the Huawei is far too aggressive in its power management on the Display, even when Auto Brightness is Off, the phone still tends to adjust brightness a bit too much for my liking, while the Note8 seems to be far more gentle and barely noticeable in its adjustments.
Camera wise, I am no photographer but the Huawei requires you to toggle HDR on and off, and it's UI seems a little Off, takes some getting used to, but the photos themselves are good, I am happy with them and will for the duration of the review period use it to take photographs and videos mainly.
If anyone has any questions of Mate10 Pro vs. Note8 please don't hesitate to ask.
I was playing with a relative's galaxy s8 but I can't help but notice the ads on the phone app. That was very bothersome. Also to get visual voicemail, you have to pay additional- maybe that is a carrier thing. I am just wondering if that bothers any android users? I like the fact ios does not come with ads on their default apps. How do y'all not have ads displaying on the phone?
Never had ads in any default apps, especially ones like the Dialer etc... That would have driven me from Android in a heartbeat.
