Very, they are starting to do Apple like things now.
Although there is an annoying work around.

Whats the annoying workaround? The non functional badge count for Messages is really the only thing I dislike about the update. The picture in picture part of the update is really cool though.

So I am patiently waiting for the Note9, but a part of me is thinking I should hang on to the Note8, it has been so damn good to me, never missing a beat. Also I have collected soooo many accessories for the Note8 I have never got so many accessories for a device - that said 95% of the accessories were free and are supported by any new Samaung (DeX station, BT Keyboard, U Flex BT Headphones, Note8 ClearView Standing Cover, Samsung Thin cover) , but the Cases/Covers that I have are Note8 specific, and I also still have the Whitestone Dome Screen Protector I still need to apply

Hmmm....time will tell. Even if I get a Note 9, I'd keep my Note8 as a spare anyway, no way am I selling this beast, it has been a true workhorse. :D

Turn off all the badge icons and leave the message one on.

I may go S9 plus and just hang onto it for a couple years.

This might change your mind....

Samsung leaks the Note 9.

Well about 2 hours ago the Messages app starting showing unread messages again. My wife will be happy. I didn't notice an update, so guess they just updated the app? Glad this is fixed.

Oh ok yeah mine were working.
Hey out of curiosity I know you have the Note 8 and had an iphone prior, what type of computer do you use?

It stopped working on mine when Oreo showed up.

A Surface Pro, which I love. I can edit my ink on both phone and computer in OneNote. I'm using the Microsoft Launcher on the Note 8 also.

I went and played with the Mac and the Windows 10 2 in 1.
Like them both actually and can you guess which one is cheaper?
It is a tough decision as I found things I like and dislike with the Mac and Same with the Windows.
The windows device looks familiar but not really a fan of Cortana or some of the other stuff they have going on.

Finally I do not need more accounts. Can you use this thing with out signing up for a Microsoft account?

(Tough choice to move back to all Apple or Stay with my andoird and go to a PC)

I believe you can run without an account. I have 2 Microsoft accounts... one business account via work, and one home account to cover my family's office apps. I log into the home one for my Surface Pro logon, but for Outlook I use work; and for OneDrive I use both. It all seems to "just work"; and same on my Note 8. I don't really use Cortana for too much, although it is what will show your messages on your desktop. The continuity stuff is getting better and better. I can grab a file on my Note and pick the "open on my Surface" option and that works great. Same with Spotify being able to switch sound between the different devices as well as my Echo's that have quality speakers attached.

I'm not sure whether its Cortana or Google, but on my last trip, when I opened Google Maps it knew where I wanted to go. In the Hertz car at the airport it automagically put in the address of the hotel I was staying at. And when I went to go to the airport, same. Some people think that's creepy, but to me I live it. Saves me time.

I've had the Surface Pro for just about a year and had no real issues with it, and do quite a bit on it. I use it in place of my company issued Dell business grade laptop; and I move everything from my home Mac, including about 15 years of all my scanned documents, Lightroom and my photo catalogs, etc. I also use a few apps like Netflix to download content for trips. The sole reason I still even have a Mac is that I backup my wife's iPhone and iPad to it. Otherwise I've not used it for anything in the last year.

Both Apple and Windows/Android have their issues... no question. I would not attempt to get my wife using Android.. she doesn't like tech and hates anything to change. But for me, I'm actually having fun using this stuff (again).

Nice as I will be buying a computer again.
Not sure if I want to get the MacBook Air or a Lenovo 2 in 1.
Apple is overcharging for their products .

I am contemplating buying another Note 8. Yes, it is an expensive phone, almost $600. It will include a manufacturer's warranty + 1 year coverage extended warranty through a bank. I am interested in knowing if I can use this phone for the next two years? I am looking to get regular security patches and expect to get major OS updates (P and Q) in March/April of the following years (2019 and 2020).

Is this a fair expectation to expect a high end phone to last that long 6 months into its sell cycle? Or would I be better off going elsewhere for a more affordable phone?

The Note 8 already got one major update to Oreo. It may or may not get 2 more major updates. That would be expecting the 8 to get updated to the "then current" version that would align with the 11 series. The 9 series is current. At this point, I would probably wait for the Note 9 if you could.... I expect its a few months out. But I am quite happy with my Note 8 and find the price pretty reasonable for what it does. If I couldn't wait that long, I wouldn't hesitate to get one. You will get security updates in line with what you are expecting.

Samsung flagships seem to get two major versions and then security updates for a year or sometimes more. Considering that the Note8 got Oreo already, it still has P to go, but I’d bet that it’s not getting Q anymore. But even without Q it should get security updates for the time you’re going to use it.

I cannot afford $1000 for a phone. I could do $600 at most. It’s either a LG G6 new for $300, Pixel XL refurb 1st gen $250, or Note 8 for $600.

Yeah security is more important than major OS updates to me. What about software degradation?

I can’t say for sure, but it feels like my S8+ has gotten a bit slower over time (or maybe it’s just a perception issue as I keep alternating between the S8+ and an almost constantly snappy iPhone 8). However, if I recall correctly, some recent update improved things a bit, so there’s always the possibility that a software update actually improves things.

I am very happy with my Note8, it's fast, fluid and solid, the software has been very reliable to.

In terms of futureproofing, it has 6GB RAM, which is something most phones don't have, so it should see a great deal of support. It will probably get Android P and then security updates for a while more after that.

Android Q is a bit of a stretch, but let's be honest here Nviz, YOU are not going to keep it that long buddy I give the phone max 4months with you.

Get the Blue Note8 wit a see through case.

Good luck! :)

Note 8 is a great device. However I could see myself going back to Apple. The Samsung device I like but I think I want Apples syncing capabilities and I also want a less intrusive device. The note 8 has so many options and settings and I figure I will never even need to change or adjust.
However I am very happy with my Note 8 and would go that route.
The Pixel is an ok device. Lacks a lot of Note 8 features but for $250, if you are a basic user you can't go wrong.
