I am very happy with my Note8, it's fast, fluid and solid, the software has been very reliable to.
In terms of futureproofing, it has 6GB RAM, which is something most phones don't have, so it should see a great deal of support. It will probably get Android P and then security updates for a while more after that.
Android Q is a bit of a stretch, but let's be honest here Nviz, YOU are not going to keep it that long buddy I give the phone max 4months with you.
Get the Blue Note8 wit a see through case.
Good luck!
If I cancel my order to go Nokia 6.1 for 6-12 months, would that be better? Getting a better phone like the Pixel 3 next year? Or just stick with the Note 8?

How about a Nokia 7 Plus? It’s not that much more expensive compared to a 6.1 and you’ll get 4GB RAM instead of just 3. Also the camera appears to be good for its price.

They are all good phones, nine of us have a crystal ball to tell you how they will holdup overtime, but you can go try them all out and see what you feel you like the most.
I will always say go for the Note because I always want an SPen. If the SPen doesn't matter to you, maybe look at all the other alternative devices
- LG V30S
- Nokia 7 Plus
- OnePlus 5T
- Huawei Mate10 Pro (if it is at all sold there)
- HTC U11+
etc etc etc....
Get that Blue Note8 then we have a stake in your decision as we helped you, at least let us close the colourNot available in the US.

I tried them both. Definitely prefer the Note 8.

When did this happen??? Can you not get hold of your bank to reverse the transaction and cancel the whole order with Samsung? If price were equal, definitely like the Note 8. I did order the Note 8 in blue, it's just Samsung decided to give me an error, double charge me, and won't let me cancel the 2nd order. Now they want to send me two Note 8s. Very annoyed having to deal with this nonsense. It's farcical at this point. I was thinking about just going with Nokia to avoid headaches, but let's see...

Very odd.
What about S9 or S9+? I saw where they are on sale directly from Samsung for $600 and $690 respectively. That being said, I love my Note 8. It hasn't slowed down in the 8 months I've owned it. I wouldn't want to give up my stylus but S9/+ are really nice as well and you'd get the 2-years of major updates.
I had three defective S9+ devices w/ screen issues. Definitely do not want to retry that option for $690. I would get the Note 8 or just go with the Moto G6 or Nokia 6.1.
More like user issue not screen.
No, there were reports the device was defective from the early onset. I took 3 chances on them.

Purchased the Note 8 at full price directly from Samsung?
Yep. But got it for $600 on a deal. Not sure if I will do it because I may do budget devices yearly now. Could look for the Nokia 6.1 and then the following year’s successor. Though I may have trouble flipping the Nokia 6.1 next year.
How'd you find that deal??
Samsung has a student discount plus $250 off the Note 8 w/ trading in any old smartphone. It's a pain in the butt to trade stuff into Samsung. They took forever to confirm my S8+ last year and ended up giving me a refund then confirmed they got the phone for a trade in. It converted into a $100 credit for me that they owed me. I had to use the credit on the S9+ which ended up being defective, so I gotta talk to them about getting me the $100 credit again.
Have you tried going into a carrier store? I got my Note 8 like 9 months ago and got the $250 off for trade in, plus $250 off a Gear S3.
You seem to be waffling back and forth on whether to get a Note 8 or something else. I will just say that I love my Note 8. Just this morning I remembered again why. I needed to take some notes and wanted to use a pen vs. typing. I popped out the pen and selected OneNote from the ink menu. Up comes a new page. I do my writing. Now this afternoon I can open my Surface Pro and there sit my notes. No other phone can do this.
Look, I like the Note 8. For $600, it’s a 2017 phone, so it makes it tougher to make the investment. The S9+ was too defective for my tastes. I like the Note 8 hardware, but the more I try it out at a store, the less likely I feel willing to pay $600. Good phone, just hard to pay that much for it. I am really tempted by the Moto G6.
Go for Note 8, if it is within your budget, coming from Moto G5 plus and Moto Z2 Force few months ago, it is worth sticking to Samsung. I understand your bad experience with S9, wait for few months when Note 9 comes out the Note 8 price will drop, if not go with Moto phone, it is your decision.Look, I like the Note 8.
