I think I am giving up on my Note 8. I am going to pick up a LG V30 or OnePlus 6. Haven't decided fully yet, but leaning more towards the V30 as I would keep it as a backup phone and get the new iPhone eventually. The tallness bothers me of the Note, the curved screens get in the way all the time and battery life isn't that great to other phones I've had. It's been good while it lasted!
Yeah, those same things bother me about the Note 8 too. I'm hoping that by the Note 10 they get rid of the top and bottom bezels, but keep the same screen size. And maybe they start offering a note without the curved screen, but I doubt it.

Would be awesome if they copied the design of the essential phone and turned that into a future note, would be perfect to use with the spen. One can dream.

What screen protector does anyone recommend for the Note 8?

I love my Whitestone Dome screen protectors for my Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S8 plus. Fit is perfect. Clarity and touch sensitivity are outstanding.

The installation can be taxing if you don’t have the temperament for it, however. The difficult part isn’t the alignment, but getting the smartphone screen free of lint before installation.

Wanted to avoid the Whitestone Dome because it’s too expensive and inconsistent for people.

Everything else is subjective but poor battery life? Mine is fabulous. 7-8 hrs of SOT every charge cycle. You must have a bad install/corrupted app/dodgy setting etc.

Definitely not. I've reset my phone 3 times and it's been the same each time. It lasts to get me through the day, but it isn't like other devices I've had.

Have you installed a previous backup or set up the phone as new? You can still have a dodgy app.
Sure phones with 4000mAh batteries last longer but saying that the N8 has poor battery life is ridiculous.
I've been browsing and messaging for 5 hours + amd here's a screenshot with my battery dead on the 50% mark.

I would love to know all your settings as my predicted is basically half of this.

I love everything about this phone, however I find it very restrictive and the battery is always needing charged.

This phone has the best battery life that I have ever encountered. I have location on high, no power saving switched on ever, notifications on for most apps, but I do send a lot to sleep in the battery optimisation section. After installing Oreo I did a full reset and set the phone up as new. Tedious I know but it always delivers maximum battery life.

My phones before this were all iPhone and honestly I am not an Apple apologist or anything I don't miss iOS at all but the battery life on any iPhone I had was well and truly superior to this phone.

I will try a reset and see if that helps

I've noticed my battery life has dropped off, but it wasn't right after Oreo update... its been more recently. I suspect in my case its possibly all the syncing things going on that may be causing it. Is there a way to easily see what is consuming the most battery time?

My battery is still pretty much the same as before, however my phone usage has become more intense since I got the Note8, I watch a ton of YouTube and series on my phone, so I do top it up regularly.

Honestly the only phone I know that truly beat the Note8 in battery was the Huawei Mate10 Pro, that is the only phone that truly absolutely obliterates the Note8 in my experience, with MY usage that is. The Mate10 Pro was the only device that could handle my constant usage (WhatsApp FB, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Apple Music streaming, Web Browsing, 4 email accounts (incl. My work Exchange account) etc....) and keep going until the next day, but it would then die at around 10 the next morning, so even that I would just charge when going to bed, lol.

The screen that sunking101 show is probably the easiest way. It is under the Device Maintenance menu and then Battery in the lower left hand corner. Under Esimated battery life tap on the small box that says "Battery Usage".

There are a number of different battery monitoring apps you can try. But I honestly feel that they do more harm than good. I've tried at least two and my battery life has seemed worse while I've been using them.

I'll say it again. The Note 8 is not as good as other phones with the same size battery. It is not a dodgy app. I've monitored the battery and apps and there are no apps that are killing it. The V30 out lasts the Note 8. It's Samsungs software that is hurting it most likely. It maybe good for you, but it isn't as good as other devices.

I've attached my screen shots. I gave it an extra charge earlier today so it would last me through the evening when I do a lot of youtube videos, and reading.

Well either you or I have a dodgy setting, a dodgy app, a dodgy app setting or a dodgy o/s install. My opinion of the N8's battery life is completely at odds with yours. I get 7.5 to 10 hours of SOT with every charge cycle and in my experience that's very good. Sure we all have different useage patterns but mine never varies between different phones and I have never bettered this battery life.

On the battery part: it really depends on your settings and perhaps which variant of N8 that you have, where you resides etc... because the biometrics - if you have set up for facial recognition / iris scanning, your battery will take a hit as well as the always on display and the performance mode. Also, what your experience with previous phones. For instance, iPhones have really, really good standby time... not the Note 8 which have poorer standby time.

So for me, I have the AT&T Note 8 (USA), I notice that the battery drains much faster if I have the AOD, Facial recognition, iris scanning on, performance mode (which increases the pixel density on your phone), increased brightness, adding more than 1 widgets, location tracking, WiFi, Bluetooth, and and live wallpaper ETC. turned on. Now, if you have the off contract Note 8, you might experience greater battery life because of less bloat that can potentially drain your battery life and with a different processor which also might translate to better battery life. So you see, there are just so much instances that can impact one's note 8 battery life...

Does anyone else have problems with their note 8 refusing to fast charge? I have multiple OEM Samsung power bricks, and cables, and no matter what it seems to trickle charge these days.

Really annoying when I am low on battery and need to head out soon. The other day one hour only netted me 20% battery.

For some reason the fastest charging these days is my oem Samsung car charger. It used to be slower then the wall.

Nope, mine Fast Charges without an issue, however a colleague of mine was having a similar issue on his S8 and we found that his charger brick was at fault.

Do you have Fast Charge turned on in the Battery Settings? Also try test with someone else's Fast Charger to try isolate the issue further.

UK Exynos. AOD on, facial recognition on and live wallpaper on. I get fantastic standby time with Oreo. It's not quite iPhone standby but it is very close.

Mine trickle charges if I'm using it at the same time, I mean it charges slower than any other phone I've owned but if I leave it alone it fast charges.

The US Snapdragon version is not quite as fast / efficient as the Exynos version- which should be the unlocked version right? Also AT&T and the carriers add additional bloatware that can drain the battery but most importantly, the processor you have is superior than the Snapdragon version. There is more features on the carrier version of the US phones but it also slow down the phone like WiFi calling and such. Everything above should explain why you experience more battery life than the US branded phones... also Exynos unlocked version have 64 GB and above storage which in the US carrier branded ones only have the 64 GB which is a shame.

The lack of parity shouldn’t even be a consideration if it wasn’t for CDMA tech. Ironically, the S9 Exynos was gimped way too much at launch.

I thought that the Snapdragon 845 was the first Snapdragon in a while that was actually better than the exynos version?

Well so far, the V30 is more snappy, better audio through headset and bluetooth (with my LG Platinum headset), lighter, better placement of FPS, no edge curved screen, hardly any bloatware, the screen itself is almost as good as the note 8, so can't complain, battery life is definitely better, and the wide angle camera is awesome.

I have a Exynos Note8 from Vodacom (Vodafone ZA) and they included WiFi Calling in it :)

Remember the 845 is for this year, the S9 uses the 845, last year was the 835 which is what the Note8 Snapdragon uses.

This year, Samsung made a few mishaps with the Exynos9810 and so it was indeed gimped at launch vs. The 845, however I do believe they fixed it.

I still always prefer Exynos over Snapdragon, going all the way back to when the Exynos was known as the Hummingbird.

Yeah, it's amazing how well the Note 5 aged when compared to my S7, and even to an extent my S7. Always preferred the exynos, but the 845 has been great on my S9.

Yeah, I wish Samsung did with the rest of their line what they did with the S6 and Note5 series, make all Exynos.

That is great to hear about your S9, Qualcomm have come a long way since the nightmare 810 chip, but I always get this weird feeling that Samsung have a difficult time optimising their UI for Qualcomm chips vs. other OEMs.

Comparing my Note 4 that was a Snapdragon - my network had just upgraded their LTE network to a CAT.6 LTE+ network so they elected to bring in Snapdragon Note 4s to show off how much faster it was than regular LTE, the Exynos at the time the Exynos 5433 that only had CAT.4 LTE. Before my Note 4 died I got to try an Exynos one next to it, and although mine was fast, the Exynos felt a lot more fluid and smooth, it just felt as though it worked better with its hardware, vs. my Snapdragon that had a tendency to start heating up sometimes.

I have not tried the newer Snapdragon 845 devices, as our Samsungs are now back to being all Exynos from the S6 days onwards.
