a better place
It's strongly rumored that the Note 8 will have a Snapdragon 836, along with the LG V30 and Pixel 2. That and more optimization(which happens every cycle) might curb the 200 mAh loss. So I wouldn't make a big deal out of it. Especially since both the S8 (3000mAh) and the S8+(3500mAh) already has great battery life.

If it's in production now for its launch later this month (and likely its been in production since early July) then there is little real chance of having the Snapdragon 836 as the chipset is not in mass production yet, unlike the Note 8 itself.

Thank you for this.

I didn't realize the battery was smaller. Hmmm. I kinda don't understand the play here. Unless the Note has a bunch of features specific to it (other than the S pen).

Probably another speaker Tucked in there somewhere. But I waited 3 months to let's things Get sorted out when I saw the Press Release. I was like 6.2" vs 6.3" pffft. Goodbye Note 8 helllooo S8+

Besides of ALL the super cool features the Note 5 has I never made use of Any of them and I knew the Note 8 would be the same.

And the Price. I know the Note 8 will be a $1,000 Device Or $45.00 a month Lease. Where as My S8+ was just $19.80 for 18 months no cash upfront and no activation fee, and a $100 Visa gift card. I walked in and walked out with a new device.

Becoming more and more interested in the Note 8!!

Why exactly when the S8+ is arguably a better device.

#1. Not as expensive.
#2. Larger battery (look it up if you doubt me)
#3. Tons of offers from carriers I'd rather pay $19.80 a month than $45.00 a month
#4. 3 months of real world in the wild reliability no issues.
#5. Readily available
#6. More 3rd party accessories
#7. Edge Display is like having a second side display configure it as a News or stock scroll. Or more.

1) OK fair enough
2) That's because of the S Pen needing space
3) I always buy unlocked in UK
4) There are issues with the S8 and S8+, are you kidding me?
5) Readily available because it's been released and the Note hasn't yet? Huh?
6) Yep
7) I barely use the Edge Display other than a shortcut to GIF creation

You're forgetting the camera improvements, potential software improvements, and all the stuff we don't know. Can't assume everything.

Here is the S8+ and 7+ side by side, they don't have the Note 8 yet as it hasn't been announced. But this site lets you compare phones side by side

I kinda like that gold color if that is the way it will really look. Getting tired of the same old black slabs all the time.

While the difference in bezel size between the 2 devices is certainly significant, I love how they try to exacerbate it by having an icon free screen with vibrant, colorful wallpaper on the S8 yet have the camera app up in the iPhone, the app with the largest additional portions of black bezel on the top and bottom of the display. :rolleyes:;)

yeah i noticed that too....why show the 7+ in the camera app?
but you gotta admit the screen size and footprint are vastly different.....

no different than when Apple put up the side by side picture of the iphone and the galaxy with the app drawer open during their trial. You put on side by sides that benefits your argument the most.

So the Note 8 will have a narrower screen than for example the Note 5 and all the other 5.7"/16:9 phones, which are 126 x 71 mm. Add the rounded edges and you get a substantially narrower screen than on those phones, approaching the 68 mm wide iPhone 7+ screen even.

In terms of practical usefulness then, the N8 screen won't really feel bigger than the 7+ screen to me. And it'll definitely feel smaller than the screen on my old Note 3. Not to mention the Mate 9...

Not that fussed about this phone tbh. The new aspect ratio trend continues lead in the direction of style and decreased footprint sizes rather than a truly increased work space, which I had hoped for with the Note series.

part of the problem with the new ratios is it makes for a very narrow phone. The smaller the screen size the harder ti gets to operate a phone that size. If they kept the screen size 5.5 with aspect ratios of the S8(+) it gets to be a very small phone and harder to use imho

That's always been my opinion also, these new phones aren't truly the sizes they advertise just like the Note 8 isn't truly 6.3". But it is still a larger screen in a much smaller package, even if you normalize the new phones to 16:9. A narrower phone can be easier to use in some instances, and in other instances such as vertical handling, it can be substantially more difficult.

Wayyyy too narrow and tall. Don't get me wrong I'll still consider it, I'm a diehard Note fanboy. I just don't know if I'll pull the trigger, this would be the first Note I didn't buy as I've bought every single Note from the first one.

Final version of the Note 8.

I wonder if that stylus is true to size, or enlarged. It looks huge, which is awesome if true, but I'm sure it's just blown up a bit or copy pasted from a different sized image. Extrapolating how tall the N8 will be, the stylus looks almost like a full sized pen.

Putting the S8+ and the 7+ side by side at Best Buy the 7+ screen "seems" larger to me. Yeah I know I'm nuts, but the extra width just gives me that perception.
[doublepost=1501601297][/doublepost]
I don't know about the S8+ but the 7+ did not outsell the 7.

https://www.fastcompany.com/3067042...utselling-smaller-iphone-7s-new-holiday-data- It's an old article, you may be right in more recent months, but the plus outsold the regular over the holiday season 61.2% to 38.8%. I didn't search very hard, but even if it's not currently outselling I'll bet it's pretty even with the non plus version. I would think the holiday season would also be the most important sales metric besides maybe the initial release.

Edit: http://fortune.com/2017/07/25/apple-iphone-7-sales-2/ OK regular 7 47% and plus 34%, so while the plus isn't outselling the regular like it did at the beginning of the year, it's still selling in significant numbers pretty close to what the regular 7 is selling. In any regards my point was that the plus size models are very popular, and based on the numbers at least as popular as the smaller variants.

After using the S8+ for a while, the longer screen does show more info when compared to my r9s+ (with 6in 16/9 screen which is wider but shorter with about the same area as the S8+).

N8 = 144 x 70
r9+ = 133 x 75 (163.1 x 80.8 x 7.4) - 185g
1+5 = 122 x 68 (154.2 x 74.1 x 7.3) - 153g
U11 = 122 x 68 (153.9 x 75.9 x 7.9) - 169g
PXL = 122 x 68 (154.7 x 75.7 x 8.5) - 168g
N5 = 128 x 72 (153.2 x 76.1 x 7.6) -171g
s8+ = 142 x 69 (159.5 x 73.4 x 8.1) - 173g
7+ = 122 x 68 (158.2 x 77.9 x 7.3) - 188g
s8 = 132 x 64 (148.9 x 68.1 x 8.0) - 155g
G6 = 129 x 65 (148.9 x 71.9 x 7.9) - 163g
XZ = 115 x 65 (146.0 x 72.0 x 8.1) - 161g
7 = 104 x 59 (138.3 x 67.1 x 7.1) - 138g

Just FYI, the website is just a size comparison site. I could be wrong, but I don't think anyone tried to make the iPhone look bad. It just so happens that's the default iPhone 7 Plus picture. If you go to the site, here are how recent iPhones look when you cue them up:

The 7 Plus just happens to have that pic as representation for some reason.

Sizes seem a bit off there.
Now, I should point out that these images are by no means to scale and are simply resized to fit nicely together to give us a feel for the differences" to give it some context.

I have been waiting for the Note 8 but after seeing these I am not so sure now. I know I don't know if I should just hop on the S8+ now or wait. This is my first jump across to android so I want it to be right.

I am eyeballing that gold one.... might not show the fingerprints so much.

That's somewhat muted but I generally can't stand gold. I'm debating what I like less: gold or how gross the back of the midnight black becomes. It's times like this where I wish I was born a case person.
