You don't 'have' to upgrade every 12 months! That's just your choice to surely?
[doublepost=1503775113][/doublepost]

That Note 8 is calling you..... or why not just get a G6 because you rave about it enough.
No you don't have to upgrade after 12 months. I didn't and I could have carried on with the contract until it was finished if I wanted to. I think I upgraded after 13 months.

I think MRU already has the G6 or has had it.

been interesting looking at tariffs for the note 8 here in the UK

Kind of makes me think and wonder when new iphone is out. I’m guessing it will be very high upfront costs and just similar per month prices. On o2 if you want to upgrade every 12 months it’s £71 a month for unlimited texts and mins plus 20GB of data. I think if I’m going to start a new contract it would be on a carrier where I would need to upgrade every 12 months. That said it’s a lot per month but might be better than paying £1,000+ each year.

I see EE are no longer offering the note 8 on upgrade after 12 months..wonder why?

I am the one who is raving about the LG G6 as of late haha. MRU already has one and speaks highly of it.

Already have a G6 ;)

Your referring to @nviz22

Doh he beat me to it lol...

If the V30 isn't released in Europe and iPhone 8 is shocking price wise and Google's Pixel 2 XL once again releases with limited country availability, at that point I'll get the Note8. The carrier offer will still be there, ill only miss out on the free DEX.

Essentially I am not rushing into buying anything right now when so many potential better options 'may' be open to me.

You've stated previously that you're not a fan of Sammy's RAM management. I know the Note has 6gb but I don't know that will negate their OS over-managing RAM again (4 is still plenty, and they felt the need with the S8). Has that changed for you?

I don't know. I would need to use one in a store and see if it can keep more than half a dozen apps open without forced content refreshes.

I really am in no rush to buy at all, and it's 4th on the list of devices I am interested in. I have plenty of time to see real world tests and feedback here and on XDA.

Whilst I would certainly say the extra 2gb in theory should increase ram performance, however the problem with the S8 was that Samsung closed / emptied ram cache early, even whilst the system manager was saying there was plenty of user ram free.

So if that remains the case, that Samsung have still got the aggressive early ram cull, then the extra 2gb may make only a very small difference that still falls behind other OEM's who handle ram better. (Even with less ram).

We will see in time, and if it turns out ram management is not sufficiently better to appease me to justify a €999 device (€450 if I decide to extend my contract 24 months) then fair enough, it's just not for me.

It could indeed feasibly end up being a case that NO phone will be making my fall/winter shopping list. To be frank it's not really a major deal as I still have my Pixel, G6 & 7+ and there is nothing really wrong with any of them forcing me to change.

Supplementally...

Out of interest as I haven't checked specs but is the Note8 in Europe exynos too ?

Edit .... yes it's exynos for Europe.

Way too expensive for what it is, the battery life will be a problem. I'm struggling to comprehend the increase over the near identical S8+ beyond product placement with the anticipated sky high prices of the iPhone 8. Bit of a cheek from a company that recently released an exploding device which luckily didn't kill anyone. You'd think they'd try and regain a bit of credibility first before trying to create a new price category for smartphones?

Well they aren't trying to create a new price point. I think that will be Apple with the iPhone 8 which is rumoured to start at $1,000, which in the UK will most likely equate to £1,000. Apple will try and justify it as they will have the 7S/7S plus on sale for a similar price to last years 7/7 plus. So they will try and push the iPhone 8 as a pro/premium phone and try and explain the price that way.

I think Samsung have been incredibly generous to customers in the US by offering those who bought a note 7 last year up to £450 off the note 8. I hope they have offered a similar level of discount to those in South Korea too. In the UK previous note 7 owners have not been offered any discounts. I can only rationalise this by thinking that only a few were able to get the note 7 by pre-ordering and they got it a week early. By the time the official release date came round in the UK phone sales had already been halted and the recall had begun. So perhaps Samsung feel as though discounts can be applied in the US and I would hope South Korea as the note was actually on sale there for a few weeks before things went wrong. In the rest of the world it had not officially gone on sale before sales were halted.

The price increase over the S8+ in the UK is about £100. I think this can be justified because of the inclusion of the S-pen and the dual camera. Isn't the iPhone 7 plus about £100 more than the iPhone 7, because of the larger screen and the dual camera. If you don't need/want to S-pen and dual cameras at least you can buy the S8+ which is virtually the same size with the same specs for at least £100 less.
[doublepost=1503813156][/doublepost]I've just had a thought. I think Samsung need to enable you to use that sparkle effect (live messages) to make your own wallpaper, preferably live.

Gotta agree. The $425 off is a great offering (something I'm going to take advantage of). As mentioned, the s pen and the dual cameras are worth the upgrade price. Yes, these new flagships are getting ridiculously expensive. You'll have to weigh the cost to see if it's worth it.

A lot of Apple fans say that they won't pay the iPhone 8's price, but I don't believe them. Even with the increased price, many fans will get it, especially since you can finance it.

Well you can count me out of that. Even with financing it will be expensive. I'm not buying on principle. This is not a premium phone. You are simply giving us some of the things android flagships have had for years at reasonable prices. I'm paying £71 a month for my note 8. The iPhone 8 would be even more expensive considering that the iPhone 7 plus is already more expensive than the s8+ on contract over her now.

I have to say I'm a little surprised by the aesthetics of the Note 8. Samsung have produced some stunning devices over the past couple of years. Everything down to the finest detail. Why they have decided to put that ugly black slot like camera section on the back of this device is astounding.

The price is jaw dropping too.

I think the only colour the camera will look odd on is the orchid grey. Obviously it will blend in on the midnight black phone but black goes well with blue and gold.

While I appreciate what Samsung’s doing for us Note 7 users in the US, it would’ve been so much more convenient if they offered the discount w/o having to trade in anything!

Also, I had bought two Note 7s that were registered under the same email. However, I am only able to claim one discount towards the Note 8 and Sammy’s CS is practically non existent!

'Fans' may well buy it because, well they are fans. People like me who are simply iPhone users really do mean it when we say we are not spending a grand on a mobile phone. I feel I represent the average consumer who looks at price before marketing.

Yeah their customer service leaves a lot to be desired which is why I take out insurance with my Carrier when I have Samsung phones. So any issues go through my career who are reasonable.

I also don’t see why they only offer Black & Orchid Gray colors in the US! I would’ve loved to get that deepsea blue!!
I think it's silly how they make colours region specific. I think it's because they want to bring out a different colour later on so they can sell more. They should just release all the colours at launch and then they could bring an entirely new colour later on a la the red iPhone. I wonder why they haven't got a red phone.

I'm shocked that we got gold for once in the UK I thought we'd get something awful like black and blue ( I like girly colours). More shocking is that Korea are apparently not getting the gold. I thought gold phones were all the rage in Asia?

I wonder why they aren't doing the pink gold this year. Wouldn't have got it as I already have a rose gold 7 plus and iPad Pro but the colour was stunning better than the rose gold on the iPhone imo.

Sadly, people are going to buy it and Apples going to set that price as standard.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technolo...ts-would-upgrade-iphone-8-despite-price-hike/

Every article I have read is saying people worldwide are going to buy it because of the new features. We haven't been given a good iPhone upgrade for 4 years now. There's plenty of pent up demand.

Yeah just saw on cnet the iPhone will be starting at $999 and going up to $1299. No thanks. Lol
Could you imagine the resell of the iPhone 8? Buy one for $999 and resell at $2,000. Woah. I saw some iPhone 7 Plus going for around $1,800 last year at launch and people were buying them. Most Apple users have $$$$$ and would pay premium.

Well, it’s the truth. Apple users generally have a higher income than Android users. It’s rare you would catch a celebrity using an Android phone unless Samsung is paying them for promotion. Apple is the only company that can get away with a $ 1K phone and it still sell REALLY well. Because they know a lot of their supporters can afford it.
