Jeez the discounting / incentivising started already ... it's unreal what goes on on your side of the Atlantic.

Not when you compare what we pay in monthly cellular fees compared to Europe.

The U.S. cellular carriers are still subsidizing handsets. It just isn't as overt as it use to be.

AND................. The BOGO's begin...
[doublepost=1504180557][/doublepost]

Although I'm getting an ip8, I personally don't see what the big draw to imessage and facetime are. Google's messaging/video apps work just as well, although they really need to just join them all together into one app. Continuity is nice if you have an ipad companion, I don't so I wouldn't miss it, if anything there are non-proprietary continuity solutions on Android.

I guess almost everyone I communicate with at this point has an iPhone / uses iMessage (I have one friend on Android, and we now use WhatsApp to exchange messages; as we were having issues with SMS texts not always getting through from my phone to his, or vice-versa). So if I switched to Android, it would mean settling for SMS with most folks, except a few who also have WhatsApp installed (and are willing to use it)!

Anyone know when the BOGO deal with T-Mobile is good up till? I am on the fence on a possible iPhone 8 BOGO deal that makes it totally worth it as well.
Do iPhones ever have BOGO deals?

You could do the note 8 BOGO, sell one for close to restail price at launch. Then put the money towards the iPhone 8 or use the money to pay off the contract and star a new one for the iPhone 8.

They do have BOGO deals at launch, however, the iPhone 8 probably will not. Good idea. But at the same time, I also wonder if the iPhone 8 can even live up to the Note 8 in terms of features? iOS is reliable, but is pretty bare bones and ho hum.

With the Galaxy, I have Samsung Pay, Samsung Pass, Iris Scanning, a S-Pen, dual curved sides, a SD slot, a notification LED, etc.

I just need to use Nova Launcher to get a stock Android like launcher look and dump the animations and laggy stuff. But I am weary about the inevitable bog down Samsung devices offer.

Well it's up to you. You've had Samsung devices and didn't have a good experience with them.
I don't want the iPhone 8 for many of the reasons that you've mentioned. It's too expensive and in comparison to the note 8 I doesn't stand up to it. Also iOS 11 for the iPhone was rubbish. So that's why I'm not getting it.

Yep, my experience with iOS is a lot better than Touchwiz/Samsung. The Note 8 does more, that's a simple fact. iOS 11 was disappointing overall, excluding for iPad. I expect iOS 11 to be much better on the iPhone 8. I have to think about it because I definitely prefer iOS, but Samsung's hardware and features though... Tough decision.

Honestly, Nova launcher prime, combined with the google now plug in (optional) and sesame shortcuts sealed the deal for me.

Nova is great, and I use my google now feed constantly, but it is sesame shortcuts that really shines. It allow you to add quick commands, search within apps, etc...very similar to what iOS offers (and android, to a lesser extent).

Essentially it gives me a few features from iOS i enjoyed, with the speed of NOVA, the features/hardware of Samsung, and the benefits of android.

Check it out, give it a day or two, and you might surprise yourself.

I know these speed test aren't indicative of real world usage, but I think they are good for assessing the performance when the devices pushed hard and gives a glimpse of how they'll hold up two or three years down the line when apps and software become more feature packed.

With that said, I'm pretty surprised with the Note 8 keeping up with the OnePlus 5 given how much streamlined Oxygen OS is compared to the arguably heaviest Android skin in the Note 8. I wonder if the performance is due to the Samsung's optimizations or Android 7.1.1.

Won't you guys miss iMessage & FaceTime (and Continuity w/iPad)? Or do you not really use those things? (I know there are substitutes...)

iMessage is really the only thing that keeps me using apple. In the past I used mySMS to get texts on my iPad and it worked fine. I’ve used Google Hangouts more than FaceTime.

What’s the Google Now plugin on Nova Launcher Prime?
It's in beta right now, so you have to sign up for the beta program (quick Google search). You then install an apk (app) and Google now can be opened with a slide to the left, like on the pixel phone/launcher.

Nope. These speed tests don't do a thing to show how phones will hold up over the course of a few months, let alone a couple of years. Tests like these are useless. Somewhat interesting to watch but that's about it.

I've been using pulse SMS on my android phones and it's awesome, allows me to sign in anywhere and still get my texts. Just wish they had an actually iOS app instead of having to use a web app.

Thanks! I think I’m in the beta but I’ve not used an Android in a few months. Is it an option you have to enable? When I get home I’ll fire up my S6 and check it out.

Thanks for the tip, I’ll check it out! I wasn’t too fond of mySMS’ app on the Android phone but it got the job done.
