That just goes to show you how blind apple customers are. They'll buy the next iPhone because it has an apple logo.

Why do some still say such idiotic things? Haven't we moved past denigrating someone's choice of phone by this time? Consumers have reasons for choosing their phones, does it really affect you that much that you need to put them down? I'll let you in on a little secret as well, even if a consumer chooses an iPhone because of the Apple logo, that's probably the billionth thing they, you or me has chosen because of brand. Yep, don't let me near your house, closet, garage, or wherever because I'll bet you I will find plenty you purchased only because of the brand.

But in the spirit of troll hunting, I'll give you my reasons for buying an iPhone 8. My family all uses facetime and imessage, that's my immediate family, as well as all my brothers, parents, cousins, etc. I also haven't found any android watches that can do what my AW does, so I'd like to keep the AW around. So why not save money and get the regular 8 model? I'd like to maximize the screen to body ratio so I can have the smallest phone in my pocket and in hand, and that's important enough for me to pay a premium. Not to mention the OLED screen and other improvements.

I love android, and I find it superior as a OS most of the time. I also enjoy the hell out of how customizable it is, and I WISH iOS had some kind of google voice integration. But for now there are just too many trade offs to going off iOS, as much as I don't love it.

Let me add my own points of argument here (Note 8 is my current daily driver, fyi):

  • Getting around in iOS is still much faster and fluid than Android, imo. I had to get something off my 7 Plus the other day after using the Note 8 exclusively for a few days and I was kinda blown away/reminded just how slick and quick iOS is. The Note 8 runs extraordinarily well, but moving around on it compared to the 7 Plus feels a bit like running in sand at times.
  • When there's an issue with an iPhone, it is not a small thing that you have brick and mortar stores all over the place to walk into.
  • Brand loyalty: this isn't a "blind" thing. This is something built over years of excellent products/service. What a lot of Android diehards misunderstand about Apple diehards getting excited over features Android already has is implementation. The belief is that Apple will implement a given feature extraordinarily well. And in a great many cases this has proven correct. That's not to say iOS is what it once was. I've been pretty vocal about how far behind I feel iOS has become compared to Android in terms of features. But suggesting people buy stuff just because there's an Apple logo is way too simple a premise. There's a reason people trust that logo.

How do you guys deal with this?

I'm just on Twitter basically almost all the time anyway so the notifications are a bit of a moot point :/

Seriously though I think getting a notification for almost everything would drive me crazy.

Have you checked your notification settings in twitters app itself?

Very well said! I totally agree with this view.

I've been using a Note 8 for the past 72+ hours and it honestly is a GREAT device. Haven't experienced much of any lags/stutters which could be because of the updated touchwiz or Samsung hardware.

But I did use my iPhone 7 Plus today to check the notes app and goodness the fluidity of the device is quite amazing. This comparison might not be the best but it's like using the iPad Pro with Promotion after using the iPhone... that 120Hz Smoothness in the UI totally changes the experience.

Yep, checked but nothing there to control the amount of viewable notifications. I'm guessing it's an Android or Touchwiz system level control.

Keep in mind that I don't receive notifications for almost everyone I follow just a certain group of accounts. But there are times that those accounts are super active and hence why I get a lot of notifications many days.

Yeah, I have an Apple Watch and it's awesome, so I'll keep an iPhone because of that, and Apple are evil enough to only make it work with an iPhone haha.. but I may buy a Note 8 when it's dropped a lot because it's an awesome device! Even if the iPhone X has a screen as good and camera as good, once the Note 8 drops in price it's still going to be fantastic value.
[doublepost=1505156619][/doublepost]
Sadly this is the issue I've found on Samsung devices..after a while twitter notifications stop coming through while on apple devices it's unlimited

Huh? Really? What an odd fault?

Yeah I plan on getting an Android phone as well so I can go back and forth, just haven't decided which one yet. Top contender is the v30, but my greatest hopes lie with the Pixel XL2, just don't know enough about it yet.

Agreed

Not sure why people don't understand that alot just like IOS compared to android. How it ties into all the devices is very important.

iFixit’s Galaxy Note 8 teardown shows how jam-packed with tech it is

Today’s smartphones aren’t really designed to be taken apart or repaired, because the mind-boggling amount of technology that companies are squeezing into ever-thinner and smaller packages has more or less seen to the fact that there’s simply no room left to allow for easily replaceable components. And for something like the Galaxy Note 8 — which can offer a compelling case for the most advanced smartphone currently on the market — those two factors apply even more so.

Hey, to each their own and all that but is it really that important to review all incoming tweets on the notification shade vs just going into the app? What's the difference?

That’s the way I feel. If I get 5 notifications and open the app and there are 50 itens of recent activity it’s all the same from my perspective.

Also some posts on instagram are quite popular and I don’t want 100+ chirps, chimes and vibrations interrupting whatever.

And probably most important, clearing a wall of notifications is VASTLY easier on android. There’s a reason you’re seeing unlimited notifications linger for months on the iPhone. It’s a pain in the ass to clear them all.

It used to be a pain in the ass, but since the 6s generation it's been just a 3D touch away.

Hmm, IMO it still sucks on iOS. You can't clear notifications from one day only, for example, sometimes I want to keep a few notifications as reminders. It's either one at a time, or all at the same time. I definitely miss Android notifications, they were much more useful. What I also found much more useful on Android was widgets where I could see, at a glance, missed calls, text messages, notifications, etc. So I didn't really even need notifications, I just needed to glance at my home page where my messaging, email, and phone widgets were setup to get an instant review with one glance. Widgets on iOS suck badly, although I'm grateful we have something which is better than nothing, but barely.

You have to remember that Timmy's Apple is very slow to bring in important features or common sense stuff. It took till iOS 10 to get raise to wake. iOS 7's UI still exists. What Android OEM has a skin that is exactly 100% the same from over 2+ years ago with very little change and still offers the same clunky features? EA puts more effort into its Madden video games than Apple does with iOS or its iPhone.

So first time I ran into a hiccup with the phone.

Was doing multiple things at the same time so needed to fast switch between these apps: Yahoo sports, Mint Bills, Twitter, BlueMail and Samsung Notes.

Once done, switching pages on the home page was stuttering. Opening the internet took 1-2 seconds stutter then opened. Did the "optimize" for the memory as only ~550/6GB was free. Now back to normal but odd.

Umm, while I agree that Android does notifications better, you actually can clear from one day only. I had some notifications backlog on my iPad and they were grouped into recent, yesterday, Sunday, Saturday, etc. Tap on the X next to any of the categories and e.g. Sunday was gone while the others remained.

EDIT: Widgets IMO depend on data and usage scenario. Calendar? Android, any time. Fetching 2FA codes from Authy? I actually find iOS version quicker to access unless I want to have the Authy widget on my main screen all the time (I don't, it's buried on the third home screen and therefore somewhat slower to access).

That's pretty normal when you are low on ram and then quickly do a lot of actions. It's a combination of a lack of free ram and the processes going on behind the scenes using that 5.5GB of ram while trying to replace/write new data.

My MBP acts the same way until I free up the ram and all is well again.

Question for everyone. I had the S8+ for a while but got rid of it, going back to iOS. My biggest gripe with it was that it just seemed like a chore to unlock the phone because the fingerprint scanner was inconvenient and inconsistent. Iris was ok but not if I was wearing sunglasses. Facial was decent but same if I was wearing sunglasses.

Is unlocking any better on the Note 8?

I don't have my note 8 get, but I can't imagine it will be any better. The phone is bigger, which may make it hard. The finger print scanner is easy to locate, compared to the s8, from what I have read.

I have zero complaints with the scanner on the s8+. I got used to it really quickly. But my hands are large enough to accommodate it.

It will be the same on the Note 8. I had the S8+ and now the Note 8. I hate the FPS location and don't really like iris scanning ONLY because it doesn't feel intuitive to hold my phone up to my face to unlock it. BUT the iris scanning is extremely accurate with my reading glasses on or in a dark room. But it doesn't work with sunglasses on in my experience.

I wish both platforms would steal the best stuff from each other.

For instance: Android's notifications and management of them is far better than iOS's, but I wish I could interact with text messages on the lockscreen same way I can on iOS.

Hey you lucky Note 8 (and Iphone 7 Plus) owners, if anyone's taking requests from an on the fence Note 8 buyer...

I'd love to see some photos of the two next to each other basically. Especially with for example the same Macrumors forum page open on both in portrait, to compare how big the content becomes comparatively.

Also great would be a shot of the same game on both phones, ultra super brownie points would be if you happen to play Star Wars Force Arena like I do... :D

Would also love to hear how you're getting along in general and if you have any specific positives or negatives to share!

Umm you can. Get an APP that works like it. Textra does pretty good.

I'm actually impressed with Apple about their implementation of the edge to edge display. No on-screen buttons all gesture use. Hopefully this would finally let Google rethink their ugly use of on-screen buttons. Remove it and make it also gestures only.

The pricing of the 8+ and x is making me feel extra good about my Note 8 order.

x - £999 for a 64gb or £1150 for the 256.
8+ -£800 / 64gb and £950 / 256gb.

Hot damn!

Na gestures only is a bad idea. Why not just give people the gestures and the option to keep the on screen buttons. I prefer the option of just pressing something.
