Went from s8+ to note 8. I really honestly cannot tell the difference. They are so close this year that they are indistinguishable. However it is really nice to have the spen back. I have to edit documents in the field and I utilize the spen a lot. I have owned the note 2 3 5 and 7 as well. This is hands down the best yet

Got tracking info, should have it in hand Monday by 3pm. Ordered one of those ridiculously thin, 0.35mm cases until I find someone who still makes one piece full body skins.

I'm curious, can you still remap the Bixby button? I know it has been a cat and mouse game with Samsung and the devs who make the app, but I didn't recall the name of the app or if it still worked. I'll be quite happy with google and would love to remap the button for something more useful.

I wish I could remap it the f*ck out of the phone. I keep accidentally hitting it. Never did that on the S8 Plus. At least Apple let's me disable Siri completely.

Those with the Note (or any really good amoled screen), should download the amoled live wallpaper, it's awesome and free.

So I might have ordered one today.. Couldn't justify waiting for the X, not when I have an Gear S3 and Samsung Pay actually is launched here while Apple Pay is not.

Looking forward to it, will be my first note since the 3.

Do the Bixby remappers not work then ? Could you disable with Package Disabler ?

I have bxActions working on the Note 8, just like I did with the S8. 1 tap = toggle sound modes, 2 taps = flashlight, and hold = Google Assistant

Works great! I do accidentally hit the button, but mainly when it's on the lock screen. So I have bxActions set to not respond to 1 tap when on the lockscreen.

Yup, there is a tiny bump where the spen sticks out.
I remember the Note 5 S Pen would occasionally pop out of the phone when I would place it in my pocket. Other people had the same thing happen to them.

Has anyone had this happen with the Note 8 yet? I have my Note 8 in a OtterBox case so I can't imagine this happening now though for me.

Not at all. My note 5 did that too. This note 8 it's actually a bit hard to get the pen out.

I've only had it a day, so not sure if this is prone to happen. It does feel secure and if I tap it down on my palm it still doesn't budge, so I think you should be fine.

I didn't have that problem with my note 5 either though, so your mileage may vary.

Yes, there's always that "your mileage may vary" clause on just about anything. :)

Surely the S8 can be improved via a software update?
Or is it all just down to 2GB of ram?

So I've noticed 3 quirks over the last week.

  • AOD will simply turn off at random times. Turning the screen on and off immediately fixes.
  • Face recognition stops working altogether. It goes from flawless each attempt to useless. Turning it off and back on fixes that.
  • Watching a video on YouTube will launch Bixby every now and then.
None of these are a huge deal. Just wondering if anyone else has had similar.

I think it is both. You are not going to get equal multitasking with 2gb of ram...think iPhone 6 plus to 6s plus.

That being said, the software in general has been highly optimized, it seems. There is literally no lag, FPS drops, freezing, etc. I think samsug smoothed out the software a bit. I imagine the s8 and s8+ will improve noticeably with the new version of touchwize. The pixel does fine on less ram.

-do you have the screen set to turn off when it's in your pocket, etc? The only time I see AOD turn off is when it's on a wireless charger. It doesn't always, so I imagine it is a fixable software kink.

-face unlock works great for me.

-yeah....bixby can be overly sensitive. Trying restarting the phone, and retrain your voice/do the advanced voice training (I think it's offered at the intial set up, where you read 7 or so sentences).

Nothing can beat Google Assistant for searches, questions, and simple, quick commands. But as Bigsby improves, I am becoming very impressed with it, and utilizing it along with Google Assistant. It can do specific tasks in the phone that this system can't, and the custom commands are very useful. You can make a simple phrase trigger Bixby to do a complex string of actions.

I'm highly impressed with them note 8

VERY nice!! Thanks. Did I also mention how happy I am to browse and purchase apps ON MY FREAKIN PC ?!?! I never understood why Apple forces you to do this on your iOS device. They even took away the option to do this in iTunes, as unbelievably crappy as iTunes is it's going to get crappier.
