So I've noticed 3 quirks over the last week.

  • AOD will simply turn off at random times. Turning the screen on and off immediately fixes.
  • Face recognition stops working altogether. It goes from flawless each attempt to useless. Turning it off and back on fixes that.
  • Watching a video on YouTube will launch Bixby every now and then.
None of these are a huge deal. Just wondering if anyone else has had similar.
I haven't noticed any of those issues.

I have bxActions working on the Note 8, just like I did with the S8. 1 tap = toggle sound modes, 2 taps = flashlight, and hold = Google Assistant

Works great! I do accidentally hit the button, but mainly when it's on the lock screen. So I have bxActions set to not respond to 1 tap when on the lockscreen.

*bookmarked* for when I get the Note 8. Thanks for sharing.

You're welcome. Just make sure to use the "control" method of bxActions (seen in my screenshot). You have to use adb or a PC program to grant the app a few additional permissions (no root or anything needed) to run. That way the app works without delay and does not slow the phone down one bit (no lag or slowdown like other solutions have). It acts like the button was designed to do the actions you want.

He said Note 8.
I don't think he's decided yet.

I think BIxby has potential. I haven't had much of a chance to use it yet as I'm still in the process of setting it up and I've been at work yesterday and busy today. I did have a play around with it and I've managed to set up a voice password to open the phone and it works really well.

Been playing around with the Note 8 since Friday. I've had a couple of Samsungs before (very briefly) but this is the first time I've put apps, music, pics, video on one and really given it a go. I've had iPhones since the 4 and do love the simplicity of iOS and like how it works.

It good to play around with something new and it has its good and bad points.

I'm really not liking the keyboard with it's predictive text (turning predictive off makes it worse).

And putting music on it is a nightmare when I've got 40+gb all nicely laid out on my iPhone. I've only tried putting a few albums on and it keeps putting for example, 8 songs of an album in one album playlist and the other 4 in another. So I have to edit the files on my pc. This would take forever with all the music I have.

Screen is awesome, great for webpages, pics & videos. Much better than my 7+. Front camera is a bit dodgy inside, smoothing out face details (I've turned down the skin tone setting) but looks much better outside. Main camera takes very good pics, although maybe a little oversaturated and not as natural as iPhone. The details didn't come out as good of my dogs inside for some reason either. I love how you can pause and carry on with video. A simple feature all phones should have. And the background blur is very good.

Sound is ok, but in a device this big you'd think they could fit a second speaker.

Trying to get my iCloud notes on it has been a pain. Tried all sorts and had to settle for emailing them and copy and paste. Tutorials & apps I've seen don't work. Haven't got the patience to do all 300+.

It is a great device, no doubt about it. I still want to buy an iPhone X though and see what that has to offer. If I were to try Android for an extended period, this would be the device. Also wanting to see what the Pixel XL 2 has to offer.

Can anyone give me any suggestions for an easier way with the music? And maybe a keyboard with better predictive text? I accidentally wrote "BUT" once and keeps selecting that instead of "but" for example.

Any other things I should try, download for it?

iCloud Notes. Sync it to a GMAIL account on your iOS device. Then download GNotes on the Note 8. All your notes will be there.

Keyboards. GBOARD or Swiftkey are two of the best.

I did try that with gmail but didn't work. First I had to copy and paste all the notes from my main iCloud and then into the gmail iCloud account. But they show up as emails in gmail on the Note. Spent ages on it but all I want is them in the Samsung notes folder. Oh well!

Notes sync is working now and quite like the Google keyboard, thanks.

I second using Gboard. Predictive text works good. Plus you can insert animated GIFs into text messages if you did that on your iPhones

Just one caveat: unless I"m doing something wrong, you can only use that feature if you're using a compatible messaging app like Android Messages. Sammy's native messaging app doesn't allow posting gifs from Gboard directly.

Still on the fence right now

I would need to get the gear watch if I did. I would need to go all in if I did

That's what I did. I had the Apple Watch too. Gave that to my Mom since she has been wanting one, and got myself the Gear S3 from Swappa, and Note 8. :)

Wanted to share some quick pics from the Georgia 1/2 Mile event yesterday. Who do you guys use to share full res pics up here?

Music if your syncing with a mac use iSyncr

Nevermind I see already recommended

My only stopping point is that some people have said that the Note8 is 8+ and a stylist.

Saying a Note8 is S8+ with a stylus is like saying a Mac is the same as a Windows machine because they use the same hardware...

The stylus brings a whole slew of software features that drastically changes the experience using the phone.

You'll also notice that all those people saying "S8+ with a stylus" are people who probably use the phone for a day and make a 10 minute video about it, without taking the time to actually learn about everything the S-Pen can actually do and how it makes just about everything more convenient and efficient.

Ended up getting the Note8 and I'm glad I did.

Did you try using Samsung Smart Switch to transfer?

Not sure sure how good it is compared to others.
