I don't know why so many companies try to be first with the news, when they could follow up a week later...and shipping product. Announcing first is a tactic you want to use when you're the 800-pound gorilla trying to blunt some upstart's announcement.

If Samsung is ready to go on the Note 8, I assume that'll mean the FPS will go on the back ala the S8.

We won't see it integrated into the front display until the S9. I'm okay with that; better they get it right than rush it into the Note 8.

If the Note 8 is even larger than the S8+, that location next to the camera is going to be a real problem. Hopefully, with the dual-camera module, it'll mean the FPS is lower/easier to reach.

Sounds like just a slighty wider S8+ in order to accommodate the SPen. I do like the rumor about each camera having OIS (...cough cough OnePlus....)

http://www.droid-life.com/2017/06/23/galaxy-note-8-september/
My second biggest complaint about my S8+ is how narrow it is......hope the Note 8 is wider for sure.....
Now if they keep the FPS along side the camera again....that is a big fail in my book.

Now for the bad news. According to the source, Samsung is sticking with the current fingerprint placement that we have on the Galaxy S8 and S8+. While that still sucks, it’s apparently not as bad because the cameras and fingerprint reader are separated by the LED flash and heart rate sensor. Maybe no more accidentally tapping your greasy finger on the lens?

I agree. Slightly wider than the S8+ and FP in front (under glass - not likely) or in back middle (a la Pixel, Nexus 6P), then a purchase for me. We'll see soon enough.

I wouldn't care as much about the placement of the FPS as much as the software running it. My current one is so unreliable. Some days its spot on. others it takes a billion tries.

On another point, if the Note 8 is really going to be priced at 1K, then it's not enough to pack in features. Sammy needs to fine tune this thing so that it runs as fast as the Pixel or OP5.

My observations on the FPS are...I don't place my fingers correctly on the scanner because of where it is located. That makes it not read the FP correctly. When I take my time to make sure the finger is placed correctly it reads it 100% of the time. But because of where it is located i end up only getting the side of my finder and it doesn't read it correctly.

But on the Note 8 if the FPS is located in the same location as my S8+......i will pass on the N8 this year.

a better place
It would be incredibly blindsided of Samsung to leave the FP scanner where it is on the S8/+ for the Note 8 given the universal criticism it has received.

I fear they may however leave it where it is ...

I hate the placement but I'm used it, and adjusted pretty quickly from the jump. I have never smudged my camera lens, for example. Mine is just unreliable. Anecdotally I've read enough across a few sites that I'm not the only one having this problem but who knows. Sammy's FP readers have usually been towards the bottom of the pack compared to the other major OEM's since the tech has been employed (I'm not even referring to their first very terrible go at it - the swipe-to-scan version a few devices ago).

The point is this tech is widespread and well implemented across a gamut of devices now. Sammy's should be flawless at this point. They have the money and the hardware.

Even IF I could afford this phone, I wouldn't buy it. I simply do not like the curved edges on the infinity display. I didn't like the Note Edge or the S7 Edge either. Honestly, if I hadn't already bought a new phone, I would either get the LG G6 Plus or the OnePlus 5.

Yeesh that does sound pricey. If it is true.
But I have no reason to think it won't be true given the increase year on year as others have said.

I also think that Samsung shouldn't have the audacity to charge that price, especially given what happened with the Note 7 last year. I understand they remedied it and they spent a tonne on marketing before the S8 to show their rigourous testing etc, but I don't think people will have forgot.

Will people want to spend that much on something after last years model ended the way it did? And it reached people I never expected too. When I worked at CPW, even as recently as May when I left, the amount of people who pulled a face and said "will it blow up on me?" When I recommended any Samsung device was alarming. Even older people you wouldn't expect had any interest in tech and wouldn't necessarily be in the know.

People were genuinely unwanting because of it. it will be a very interesting time that's for sure.

This ever increasing price of mobile devices is really getting tiresome & frustrating now. It's madness that mobile devices are costing more & more and function wise aren't really offering more and more function year on year.

Wholeheartedly agree. We’re well into diminishing returns now which makes me wonder if I’ll ever pay for a flagship at launch again. The rate prices of the S8 and G6 have plummeted recently also give me pause. Even iPhones seem to be losing value more than they used to.

I beg to differ. I just sold my 128 GB iPhone 7 Plus for $750.

At 1k, I'm caving - way too much to consider. Guess I'll just stick with my current phone and hope / pray that Samsung will choose me to be their guinea pig (though even with that a silly Snapdragon over the Exynos ... sadness)

Even buying flagships at 7-800 is stupid, especially Samsung. It never fails, shortly after launch there are sales and you can get them used much cheaper as well. I couldnt imagine buying 7-800 phones every year, that is like buying a laptop every year, the improvements are very incremental. The whole benchmark test crap is insane/stupid anyway, big whoop. If these phones ran at benchmark speeds during general use the battery life would be crap. I would guess most phones do not run anywhere near fully utilized most of the time

I would rather get the S8+ than the rumored Note 8 because of the full price alone. 2 extra GB of RAM isn't sufficient enough to warrant the extra price tag when the Note 7 will redebut with a cheaper price tag as well.

Could get a S8+ for $525 unlocked right now.

that's just wow 1.000 bucks for a phone at that pricetag I'd go for the Mate 10, One Plus 5 or P11 plus or v30 if they skip their ridiculous regional model pricing
