No worries, enjoy your note 8 with a year old OS. By the time you get the update you can buy a note 9 with a year old OS. It's a vicious cycle to have to put up with, each to their own though.
Man, I've been looking at the same iOS UI for the last 10 years now, with homescreens full of apps and folders, which you can't place anywhere you want :D lol

How often do you expect to see a new OS? Every 6 months? Most people get new phones after 2 years, and getting a new OS once every few years is fine with me.

This obsession with OS updates is rather comical Imo.

Monthly security updated. Oreo ~ first of next year.

MacOS and iOS tend to have to get to dot 3+ to iron out bugs taking 9 months from release. Been that way for last 18+ years and even from 6.0.0 on.

But you and the rest of the Apple faithful, religiously tell us Apple doesn't rush things. You guys preach how Apple gets things right before they release anything. What now?
Bottom line: iPhones don't run as smooth and lag free as the faithful would like to make everyone believe. What good are updates when you gotta wait for another update to fix what the first update messed up?The sooner you accept this fact, the sooner you can stop making excuses for Apple.
Thank you

This is what I have been saying. In years past these same iFans would be telling us that Apple would never release something that is not optimised, but now the 8 Plus loses to the Note8 in a bunch of videos and its "Oh no, update X will fix it, iOS is not optimised" someone even said that this is what Apple does all the time, so they are now going against their own arguments from before

I love how all this has brought to light how the iFans constantly contradict themselves. Even the FaceID demo failure is being glossed over, LOL, had all this happened to Samsung or another phone maker, they'd be here telling us how Apple would never let these things happen.

Oh dear....
I have watched Apple closely thanks to me owning iPads, and always being able to see where iOS is in relation to Android, and it's become shockingly obvious to me that Apple's quality standards have been on a downward spiral for a while.

I mean how mad is it that iOS 11 blocked people from sending emails on Exchange Accounts!? WTF!?
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208136

An integral part of smartphones is email, and Exchange in particular is one that is crucial for many of us. I actually removed mine from my iPad as when I thought it was just mine that was screwed up.

Oh Apple.

At least with apple everyone gets them at same time, not this some country do some don't or 6 months apart, or Telcos holding them up to test. Rubbish way of doing things, but i guess thats normal or you are used to it for those in that boat.

You guys should know by now the 2 apple apologists that have been hanging out here in the alternative section just has one agenda. They want to detail threads. They can't do that if no one talks to them.

Just don't engage the apologists.

They are just here to derail the threads with useless rhetoric.

Yep. Just use the ignore button.

I must say my battery life in my Note 8 has been outstanding so far. I easily get about 6-7 hours SOT on a regular basis.

I'm getting 5 to 6, I'm happy as Larry.

Do you guys constantly ignore the fact, that Apple only has a few devices, compared to other OEM's? Do you realize that other OEMs provide customers with cheaper alternatives, hence it's not easy to update every single Samsung, because their hardware etc are not the same?

As I said, you really don't need a major OS update every few months, which is why most Android users are relaxed about which version of Android they using.

With Apple, the updates are purely to fix issues related to previously poor updates that were pushed, which everybody with an iPhone seems to ignore

Was anyone else a bit confused when using YouTube/games for the first time on full screen?
I was switching to camera to press the home button as I couldn't find the home button.
Tried tapping the bottom area heaps, no. Long press, no.
I did a Google search and the first thing that popped up was some instructions that tried to make me change things in the settings that didn't exist.
I just didn't realise that all I had to do was swipe up lol, totally over my head.
I felt like such a tool....so obvious when you think about it.

I'm on the way to getting 7-8 hours of on screen time at this rate.

How are you and @jamezr getting high SOTs? I have WQHD+, Wi-Fi on most of the day, AOD from 10 am to 10 pm, never use GPS, never use bluetooth, have a black wallpaper, an ESPN/Samsung Music/Spotify/S-Health/Shazam/Google Now/Google Search/Google Music/Netflix widget combo, running stock everything pretty much and only get 4-5 hrs of SOT.

S8+ and Note8 doing the most out here. Take note (pin intended ) of the fact that he put the phones on max brightness meaning the Note8 could go up to 1200nits, both Note8 and S8+ have Larger, Brighter, Higher resolution displays and yet they managed to absolutely trounce the iPhones:

I spent hours upon hours today watching anime. Also YouTube. No widgets, but I doubt that matters. No AoD, but everything else on and on WQHD+. I'd likely have done better but I tried using Daydream and that took more power.

On the other hand, I can drain this phone or others on a normal work day with little screen on time just by listening to podcasts and music.

And auto brightness

I get high too. I leave it all on. GPs, wifi, nfc, Bluetooth. And I average 5 hours before I go to bed.

Personally, I'd love to see the ROM community come back to life. I don't even care about Android official updates. Back before I got an iPhone, it was more exciting to root, custom recovery then ROM my devices. That's just me.

This is typical for me if I only watch videos mostly. If I am mixing in Bluetooth streaming, headphones playback and normal texts on a typical day I would get 24 hours+ of use and around 7 hours of SOT.

We all get updates.

Should reviewers be doing retakes for every update we get in that case?

The Note8 itself has had an FW update and UI update since those videos were done, guess the reviewers must do another run for that now.

People really should wait a couple months to do these speed tests.
