I use basic at full HD+ resolution. I have my brightness at a 3rd the way up with auto brightness off. I turn it on outdoors only. I keep wifi on at all times. I have always on display turned off(not to save battery but I don't think it's a feature that is that useful for me.). Apart from that I just use it and don't worry about it. I'm heading home with 51% remaining and I was streaming to my Bluetooth speaker at work am night. 3 hours and 20 minutes SOT with 16 hours and 27 minutes total usage. I'm very happy with that.

All in all, I'm happy with the battery and it easily sees me through the day. I think you can drive yourself mad comparing to others becsie while the main settings might be the same/similar, the apps using battery in the background will be different.

I agree, with fast charging onboard i dont understand the fascination with SOT, never did when i was devving on XDA, users used to install my roms and be like "omg battery life is insane" and im like very polite but it made very little difference. I gave up watching the battery percentage years ago and just enjoy actually using the device.

Must say I have never been more satisfied with a device, than I am with the Note8...... Actually, I was with the Note 4 to , I mean I thoroughly enjoyed my S7 Edge, but it was just not a Note, the display was smaller and no SPen.

Note8 brings me to the happiness of not a little more that I was with the Note 4.

I honestly feel like the team that build the Notes are separate from the ones that work on the Same models. Something is a little more special in the Note, it's like they give it that bit more attention to detail. Love it.

What was wrong with it?
If I had no apps running in the background I only had 500mb of ram free, battery was hitting 15% in under 5 hours, apps were extremely choppy, camera seemed off, screen was semi unresponsive. I did a wipe and a reflash of software and I had nothing but stock apps installed and still had 500-700mb free of ram and it always said I never had 6gb of ram on my phone. Said max was 5 and I had the normal allocated 900mb so instead of 6gb my phone was saying it only had 5

Everyone is demolishing my usage lol. Maybe I need to give the AOD off and 1080p combo a try?

don't. I've been getting all day battery life (go to bed around 15% battery) and only average 4 hours of SOT. At the end of the day, I don't care about SOT, just if my battery can last all day or not. We all use our phones differently, so we can't all truly compare SOT times. I use WQHD+ and AOD and wouldn't dare turn them off just to get a few more percents of battery. Just enjoy the phone. As I said, my phone has been lasting me all day (some heavy heavy usage days I need about 15 minutes on a fast charger), so overall I'm happy.

No WQHD is for everything. Unless you are doing lots of gaming, dropping down to 1080p will not save you any real battery life.

You are not turning off pixels or reducing the screen size, you are merely changing the resolution scaling. You are still illuminating the same screen and all its pixels, so for most things on your phone which are not CPU or GPU intensive there will be NO discernible difference in power consumption.

For Example, imagine changing the resolution scaling on your laptop screen, it really doesn't change battery life in everyday usage, it only benefits certain tasks like gaming, and more in the way it helps frame-rates and performance than battery life.

Samsung used to reserve resolution scaling for Gaming, where it was most appropriate. Moving it to general display settings was a mistake as it has created this bubble of confusion in users that are missunderstanding how it works and where potential benefits come from.

So unless you are gaming or doing a lot of rendering or VR, keep to the native resolution QHD and enjoy the screen as it is supposed to be seen.

I feel like we need to sticky this post somewhere. Or as soon as someone posts about switching to FHD to save battery life, have one of your posts auto-reply to them. I think you have to make this post every 5 pages or so ;) But thanks for the persistence :)

yep, I even turn off the percent number in the status bar bc it makes you obsessed with it when you see that little number up there all day.

I never got a 30% discount code. Maybe it’s a US thing. Would have come in handy as I just bought the clear view case for my note 8.
I got my 30% off code but I'm not sure if I'll use it. I don't really need anything and I hate spending money just to save 30%. I didn't even use the code in June when I bought my S8+.

I've let the past several 30% off coupons expire for the same reason. It used to be 50% off I think when I got my Note 4/Note Edge.

That's up to you.

64GB is not enough for me, so I transferred my 128GB MicoSD from my S7 Edge to my Note8.
Normally 64 isn't enough for me but I don't want to boggle my phone down but I only have a 33gb micro sd might need to buy a 128gb one

Did anyone bother buying an SD card with their note 8 or is one not needed?
For the free gifts, I selected the Note 8 and I'll be getting the wireless charger free as well.

I've never really actually needed the SD card in any of my phones but I like that the camera asks to change the setting to save pics to the card once you install one.

Also Apple Raised the price of AppleCare due to the higher cost and frequency of having to replace OLED Burn in on people devices. So even Apple is getting ready.

I read on Google Now that the real reason Apple rated the price of AC was that the back glass was more expensive to replace then the actual display.

I don't understand the need to constantly place my phone on my wireless charger. I have always charged my phone when it gets to 5%. It's inconvenient to always place it on my wireless charger at home and while at work, 80% of the time, I'm driving. This is why battery life is important to many people.
