I hear you that would be wonderful, but I could compromise with workarounds because I want it bad. If I'm not mistaken it's just outgoing calls that are effected by the second number, could definitely be mistaken

Outgoing calls or texts will only show the watches number if the your main phone is off or not connected remotely. Otherwise, it's transparent to the person on the other end. Just the same if you're not connected remotely or your phone is off if they call that number they will go to voice mail.

You don't necessarily want to give out the number of your Gear S as 99% of the time it WILL be connected either via Bluetooth or remotely in which case calling it directly will result in the call going to its voice mail.

Battery life is going to be a big factor for me. I'm currently testing an Apple Watch and it devours battery life quick fast.

I'd like to see real usage in the 3 to 4 day range rather than 1-2.

Are you using the workout app a lot? For me that's the only thing that drains the battery a lot with Watch. So far I can get through a day without having to charge and that's fine with me. I charge it before I go to bed, wear it while I'm sleeping and then charge it again when I get up. Last night it was 100% when I went to bed and 7 hours later when I woke up it was 90%. I can easily top that off while I'm in the shower.

Okay that gives Apple Watch a real challenge from the aesthetics side.

Why? Looks pretty boring to me. But I get it. It's round. Anything round is better than square.

I think it's more than that. It's simple, modern, sleek. Boring could be used, too, I suppose. I like it personally and I definitely think it looks better than the Apple Watch. Not a big fan of the Gear S2 Classic, though. I'm strictly speaking about the default ones.

I'm put off by most smartwatches in general, but this and the new Moto 360 are two potentials that could change my feelings...

Smartwatches are a tough sell to me. My Garmin is best for running/swimming (battery can last for a week+), and my classical Citizen and Fossil watches are for everyday use.

This was my initial reaction to Smartwatches when I preferred the simpler Vivosmart which could handle basic notifications (all I wanted).

Then I thought what the heck and went thru the 360, Urbane, and SS Apple Watch. I kept the aWatch longest but was constantly frustrated at lack of waterproofing and the daily charging, mediocre fitness functions on all of them.

Now I'm back to thinking I want another Vivosmart or something at least waterproof. Something that'll be fine in the pool, heavy rain, and shower, and that lasts 5 days or more. So before going back to the Vivosmart I've gone for the ungainly Vivoactive to try it. It's pretty bland but has plenty of functions for cycling/running/swimming as well as GPS. No wrist HR but I always use a chest strap for accuracy when running/cycling. Supposed to do low level fitness tracking (steps etc) and notifications too.

If it's rubbish as well or is plain ugly and cumbersome, I'm thinking of the Vivosmart or whatever is coming in the next month. Failing that, ill just get the FR620 and forget about the smart part of watches!

That's very good battery life, given the specs.

The 3G version might only be a day though.

If this thing has a good price...ill be tempted. The worst thing they can do is price it close to the Apple Watch, which is overpriced IMO.

There are a few good looking smart watches rolling out in the android realm.

Any chance Samsung might allow this to work with non-Samsung Android phones?

Some of us do in fact workout, and I shouldn't have to make my smartphone dumber to get better battery life. Apple needs to make a better device.

The most I am getting now is about 1.25 days of normal usage from Apple Watch. My Samsung Gear Fit gives me 4-5 days of usage on a single charge, making it less functional, but provides usage that is more practical. Apple can do better.

Boring is vastly better than gaudy and overdone. And it's not a round vs square scenario. The shape is pretty irrelevant in fact. The LG Urbane is a circle and is incredibly hideous and cheap looking.

Samsung opting for clean simplicity in design and interface is what makes the Gear S2 more appealing compared to say, all previous Samsung efforts with the exception of the Gear Fit.

I charge my watch once before I go to bed and top it off in the morning when I'm in the shower. Doesn't bother me at all. Of course better battery life is always welcome but I wouldn't give up any of the features or the display for it. Apple never promised a week of battery life so if that is most important to you I'm not sure why you bought an Watch.

I don't care if it doesn't bother you. Apple Watch has weak battery life period, and Apple Watch would be a much stronger product if it doubled battery life at the very least.

Knowing how obtuse Tim Cook is though, they will shrink down the core chips, but rather than putting in more battery, he will get up on stage and say "Thinnest Apple Watch ever with the same battery life as last year..."

And I buy a lot of things because I can. None of your concern though.

Samsung has done a better job in this regard.

More pics though.

At the end of the day it still runs Tizen. Which is the most useless OS ever, it does nothing, there are no apps for it, one icon for all notifications how lame is that. It lacks any theme to it at all, the downloadable clocks are laggy just like touch wiz and who the hell names their music app "milk" WTF! Of course you only get a snippet of information with a notification like text or email you have to go to that app to finish reading it. I'm sorry but Tizen is way to far behind to compete with Apple or Android wear. Honestly it's not like their phones have Tizen. So I could care less how nice the watch looks if it has Tizen it's not worth it.

This post is full of incorrect statements.

There are several apps, just to address one.

I haven't owned a tizen based watch.
.but I have spent 30 seconds with Google, and long behold the major apps, and minor, are present.

Dennis Miloseski just put up a pic on Instagram of his Gear S2. I'm liking it and will buy first day. View attachment 577203
Not keen on that one, it does look like something Tesco ( a UK supermarket chain) would come up with, it just looks a bit cheap. I hope Samsung will give users the full package and offer round monitors, TVs and iPad clones. Until then I will be off to get myself a round newspaper or book. However should Apple ever build a car, I hope they go with round tyres.....

My god that is ugly. I thought Samsung hit the ugly ball out of the park with the Gear S, but this one is pretty bad as well. It just has that cheapo plasticky look (and I bet feel) to it, I think a 1985 Swatch looks nicer. Functionally it's crippled out of the gate with Tizen as well, bleh.

I'm still holding out hope for the Moto 360 version 2, as they seem to be the only ones who know how to make a good looking smartwatch.
