My god that is ugly. I thought Samsung hit the ugly ball out of the park with the Gear S, but this one is pretty bad as well. It just has that cheapo plasticky look (and I bet feel) to it, I think a 1985 Swatch looks nicer. Functionally it's crippled out of the gate with Tizen as well, bleh.

I'm still holding out hope for the Moto 360 version 2, as they seem to be the only ones who know how to make a good looking smartwatch.

Absolutely. I will never understand how Apple sold millions of that monstrosity of ugliness they call the Apple watch, but they did. I'll readily admit I'm stuck in a world of aesthetics when it comes to my watch. I won't switch to a smartwatch until they can match the look, feel and quality of my dinosaur watch.

doc, does the flat tyre not bother you at all? I like the Moto appearance generally but having a void in the face area kills it.

I can see it every time I check the watch it's a major turn off. Sure you can try to hide it with a black face but then the second hand etc still get cut off. And a white face I'd just a no go.

I really hoped they'd find a more elegant solution this time round. I'd be much half with s wider bezel and full face but, alas, no. I guess the original sold well enough for them to conclude it doesn't matter that much.

It doesn't bother me, I never understood why it bothered anyone. Of course in the pursuit of perfection I agree, they need to get rid of the flat tire, but it's certainly not a deal breaker for me. Especially when you consider the trade off is a larger bezel like that LG watch with the fake non-rotating divers bezel that looks incredibly stupid.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the 360 is that great, it's not. But it's the leader of the pack from an aesthetics standpoint.

This post is full of incorrect statements.

There are several apps, just to address one.

I haven't owned a tizen based watch.
.but I have spent 30 seconds with Google, and long behold the major apps, and minor, are present.
Name me one popular app?

That's very good battery life, given the specs.

The 3G version might only be a day though.

I have a Gear S v1 and I can easily get 2 days out of it. 18hrs on 3G only. Did that for 8 days recently weariing it from about 6am through midnight while on vacation. 3G mode only.

At the end of the day it still runs Tizen. Which is the most useless OS ever, it does nothing, there are no apps for it, one icon for all notifications how lame is that.

Tizen is what offers it good battery life. In terms of apps, what are you looking for that it doesn't have? In terms of notifications, what are you looking for? I keep mine on vibrate and really could care less what it displays as I'm not looking at it except when needed.

It lacks any theme to it at all, the downloadable clocks are laggy just like touch wiz and who the hell names their music app "milk" WTF!

Who needs a theme? All you need is a handful of watch faces that will compliment perhaps what you're wearing or what mood you're in, etc. I've not at all ever encountered a laggy clock. In terms of Music Milk, at least it will steam music to my BT Earbuds when I'm at the gym via 3g. AGain, no need to even bring my phone with me to the gym.

Of course you only get a snippet of information with a notification like text or email you have to go to that app to finish reading it.

Not sure what you're looking for. If I get a text, I read it and can simply click reply. Same with an email. Not even the iPhone is going to display an entire email on one screen. Not that I would want to even try to read it if it did. Me thinks you're stretching to pick

Apple's watch IMO is pretty lame. If it wasn't made by Apple no one would buy it.

Name me one popular app?

Agree.

Just announced, Gear S2 connectable to any android device running 4.4 and has at least 1.5 GB RAM. It's getting an extremely positive hands on impressions from everyone including the Verge and Engadget. The consensus so far is, the rotating bezel is awesome, and Tizen is wicked smooth. The Verge actually said the bezel is "... more predictable and intuitive than the Apple Watch's Digital Crown." But anyone with half a brain should have already known a rotating bezel would be so much more better than a dinky little digital crown on one side. The bezel is equally comfortable for left and right handed people. I was sure I was gonna get the classic, but now after watching the videos, the dark S2 modern looks so sleek and futuristic. Especially with that interface and bezel interaction. Tizen UI looks so nice. After seeing all these round smartwatch with no flat tire, I gotta wonder if there really is an excuse for the new 360 to still have one.

The Verge:

"But its real trick is in the rotating bezel, which lets you quickly and easily scroll through lists, apps, watch faces, and whatever else you might be looking at on the screen. It's more predictable and intuitive than the Apple Watch's Digital Crown and is a joy to use."

If Samsung nails the price, I'm there day one. Looks much better than the Moto 360 and I believe this should work with Samsung Pay right? If so, then yeah. This is looking like the best smartwatch.

I can't get over how wicked this Tizen UI is. And I think Samsung will be the only one with the rotating bezel until Android Wear adopts it. This video really shows how nice this watch and Tizen looks. The different colored bands for the modern S2 really change the look of the watch each time.

I haven't heard of anything yet, but will this Gear S2 only be compatible with Samsung devices like previous watches or will it be compatible with all Android devices? My first generation Moto 360's back is pretty badly cracked.

That's good news! Thank you very much. :)

The one big drawback and dumb thing IMO is the 3G has to have a worse look than the Classic. Different proprietary bands too. WTF Samsung? WTF would they do that? Dumb.

I'm very impressed by the fluidity of the interface and how intuitive it looks. The photos look good but seeing it motion has left me with a really positive impression.

Pretty slick.

Opening it up to other android phones is a great move. Obviously, it won't compare to Apple's #s, but it could do well.

Without even using it I won't disagree. I never use the 'digital crown' on my Apple Watch. And while apparently much easier to quickly use, I'd wager most people will probably deferring to using the touch screen vs. the bezel for most of their interaction on the Gear S2 as well...our brains are just wired that way after using smartphones in his fashion for so long now.

I am impressed by what I've seen from it so far--kudos to Samsung for early impressions.

I said popular like Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Shazam, Google maps, hangouts, messaging, Google now cards, Instagram, vine.

You can do hangouts and messaging (text messages) get notifications on google cards, twitter all just fine. They have their own music ID app that works as good as Shazam too.
