My neighbors cousins uncles daughter’s friend that works for Apple in Cupertino said that the best panels are reserved for the 16 pro series 1TB models. Apparently they are shipped separately and specifically for the 1TB models and they are all grade A Samsung G9N panels pre tested prior to assembly. Now there’s food for thought 🤣
neighbors cousins uncles daughter’s friend… 🤦🏻‍♂️😅

Decided to try a few 16 Pro Max units, a mix of 512 GB and 1 TB. Each one either had a terrible red botch along either side of the display or had uneven brightness between the top and bottom. Most recent one was an LG GH3 display and it seemed pretty uniform, but the off axis green shift at the bottom was pretty horrendous and the whole bottom of the screen (Safari address bar) was brighter/green than the remainder of the display even when looking straight at the phone. Pictures attached for reference. The screen was also noticeably warmer so I ended up sending it back.

they look nasty, thanks for sharing. So glad I lucked out on my first 16PM with a “third grade” G9P panel this iPhone season.

Wow terrible, wild that these issues have not been reported on by media sources or YouTubers.

Everyone keeps dancing around this reality.

I genuinely thought it was barely better than my 13 mini with 100% BH. That's what steered me to 16 Plus
Yeah exactly. iOS 18.0.1 wasn’t too bad on 16 Pro but once I updated to iOS 18.1 my battery took a huge dive. It was already causing me battery anxiety and def not something I will put up with again on a brand new phone, so I’m glad to be on the 16 Pro Max again. Not the most comfortable phone, but battery is my top priority.

I think G9P are consistently great.
Is there any other way than 3utools to check the screen manufacturers? It is a chinese app and is it using pkg to install so I will have hard time uninstalling it fully and I have a fresh Sequoia install so I don't want to mess with it too much.

My screen - which I considered a mediocre one - after visiting Apple Store today and comparing to other screens is crazy awful. I have a huge green tint even when tilted slightly and on top of that the screen is like 10% maybe 20% darker when set on max brightness (true tone off etc.). So as much as I don't want to return it (it is hard to get any 16 PM in Poland right now) I will send it back. Like my screen comparing to those in the Apple store (and before having my unit I thought they are so so) is crazy ****** like the worse I have seen ;/ QC of Apple is really bad :(
PS. I have an October build.

We already discussed that multiple times. You can do with Sysdiagnose. :D
sorry and thanks! :)
GVCH9P is my result

This is 100% about my display ;( first iPhone I'm so happy overall like the os is amazing but have to backup everything and send this green like frog screen back :(

BTW again I can confirm that those with green tint like mine are much dimmer than a screen without a green tint (probably Sammy) it is very easily to notice probably like 10-20% difference

As expected another crappy LG panel on Pro Max. :(
I also believe the position on the screen on the wafer has a large impact on consistency, the closer to the centre the more even the panel.

All but one (the one I ended up keeping) had horrible off-axis green tint especially from above in portrait.

The Max versions do seem to suffer more acutely with this issue.

My 16 Pro Max. GH3. Seems pretty good to me in person. Maybe a little shift toward the bottom.

I think G9P are consistently great.
I already returned 6 iPhones pros (4 regular size and two max), 4 of them were G9Ps, and all were pretty bad. All had in common: the lower part of the panel had a red tint und was less bright than the rest of the panel AND the bad uniformity got worse when turning on True Tone or night shift. I really tried to keep one of them but every time i look at the screen the tint was so obvious.

Dang. Seeing one like this I’m definitely sticking with mine and not playing the lottery

Respectfully - that’s a gross panel
Respectfully: Yes, it is. With TT und Night Shift off: Not perfect, but acceptable, with TT on: worse, with NS on: even worse, with both on: a nightmare.

The reason why I post it here is not that i want complain about one specific panel and I am still within the return window. I'm a really loyal apple customer deeply tied into there ecosystem and I have been using countless apple devices for years. Maybe i am just too picky or had bad luck, but my experience this year has been way worse than the years before and i really don't understand why QC is so bad and why this problem is not mentioned elsewhere. Everybody talks about the camera control or the power button of the mac mini. But the difference is: With camera control or the power button you know what you get bevor you buy and you can make an informed decision. With the panel it is just playing lottery.
