I do at night before bed. Not that concerned though, part of the reason I do it is I have a 6, that at this point has fairly poor battery life and is almost dead at bed time. And Im sure cheaper adapters/splitters/whatever you want to call them will come along after launch date, cheaper 3rd party accessories always do.

I will buy 1 splitter, and keep it on the charger next to my bed, unless I am traveling. Simple solution.

I often use my phone to watch Netflix at night.. It's not as bright and disturbing to my wife when she wants to sleep.

When I do this, my phone is usually charging as well.. It's not a deal breaker to me though either.. I will find some way to adapt.

This. As much as it's a pain right now for folk (including me) everyone will adapt and eventually it will be a non issue/non story.

As a long term Apple user, I'll be the first to agree.

That said, there was no reason for this to be the case with the removal of the headphone jack, and considering the importance of this move, shouldn't have been the case. And more than any minor inconvenience that's really the point.

If it weren't for Samsung's exploding battery issue, they'd have a pretty compelling marketing strategy right now.

older cars, I had to use the headphone port for AUX input, and could also charge the phone.

Not so important now since my car has USB, and bluetooth. :)

On the flip side, I have a LONG plane trip scheduled for January. I don't know whether the plane will have an outlet to charge the phone or not. If I'm lucky, though, I'll actually sleep for part of the flights.

Funny thing is I have a dock at work so I can't charge when using the headphone jack anyway, since its on the bottom.

Must not be the Apple dock, which has a 3.5mm audio out jack. That jack made a lot of sense when they moved the iPhone's jack to the bottom, but I never understood why they have it in the first 5 iPhones when the jack was on the top. I suppose it makes for a much cleaner installation for a home stereo system. Unfortunately, they eliminated the ability to make phone calls with the EarPods when docked with that move, and so it's probably more surprising that when they upgraded the dock and added a DAC, they didn't also add an ADC and upgrade the jack to accept the EarPods for making calls, especially since they charged more for it.

My two cents -

I do not even remotely care about no headphone jack. I understand the uproar but this is how I use it: I buy the phone, I take out the earphones, I plug it in, and I use it. I charge it before bed to have full charge next day.

I'm a big aesthetics kind of person so whatever apple does to simplify the design I'm all for it. I love thin phones, I prefer less ports, and I encourage apple to go that route forever. As long as battery life doesn't get worse, yes make it thinner. As long as doesn't create inconvenience, yes get rid of ports. This is one of the reason I really like the new home button because apple got rid of another moving part which makes a more solid.

I understand everybody's uses are different but for me, I like the direction apple is taking. One day I hope it'll be thinner and made of just solid glass with minimal buttons.

I do it almost every day and for sure every night. I go to sleep listening to something and fall asleep to it. I wake up and use my phone for a couple of hours playing games, read the news and listening to music on speaker. My battery is then at about 60% depending how new my phone is. I drive to work and plug in to head jack for music (or use Bluetooth set up I've hacked together). Then my phones ready to die after I've made loads of calls. By 4.30 it's at like 10% and I charge on computer and plug in headset so I can still talk to people. I hammer my phones battery everyday. I use a battery pack sometimes as it's always gonna die and if I want to listen to tunes I'm doing both again. When I come home I'll try charge again when I'm chilling and often plug in headphones to watch stuff. I think I spend most of my day on my phone. I should prob try the plus. Will defo try the airpods and if they are good will get the 7 in jet black.

Majority of the time I don't. When I do it's mainly on long flights that I've charged and used noise-canceling headphones. Keeping it charged is a must with the screen on for video playback and games and having a full charge stepping into the airport. With the iPhone 7 and beyond I'll probably cope with intervals of wired headphones without charging and Bluetooth headphones while charging. Or I'll probably get the dual lightning adapter for my next long flight.
Do you think it's worth getting the new phone though. What's the big selling point for you?
(For me it's just that the jet black looks cool and I like the stereo speakers. I don't really care for a better camera, don't need it to be faster, home button working differently changes nothing for me)

So I was in a similar boat and I had a good cable way back when the iPhone was using 30 pin connectors. I had a 30 pin connector that got split into AUX/USB so I only had to plug the 30 pin cable into my phone to charge/listen to music. When the lightning cable came out I forked out $45 to apple for the 30pin to lightning cable (no 3rd party cables would work). That setup should work for you, here are the links to the pieces you will need:

https://www.amazon.com/3-5mm-Audio-...&sr=8-2&keywords=iPhone+30+pin+cable+with+aux

https://www.amazon.com/Apple-Lightn...-3&keywords=apple+30+pin+to+lightning+adapter

https://www.amazon.com/Aukey-CC-S1-...3449231&sr=8-3&keywords=cigarette+lighter+usb

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B019...F8&qid=1473450390&sr=1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65

The last one is optional. I had a slight feedback noise when I pressed on the gas and this eliminates that.

That should get you to 1 cable and its a lot easier to mess with than your current setup imo. Let me know if you have any questions.

What's the big draw to the 7 for you, that would make you want to carry all that about?
[doublepost=1473547163][/doublepost]
No, but I can expect modern technology to support universal and ubiquitous standards that has no shortcomings and is super reliable. I can also expect modern technology companies to offer an adequate replacement standard before removing the older standard.

Bluetooth is still unreliable - especially in cars. Ask any dealer service center how many people come in for help with Bluetooth, it's a shockingly high occurrence and I know the service folks at dealers hate it. Moreover, no matter how you slice is, Bluetooth sounds worse; this can be especially apparent in newer cars that have good sound systems.

Lightning headphones are more expensive and incompatible with any other device.

I don't disagree that we are moving towards a more wireless world, but I think Apple would have done better by shipping an iPhone 7 with a headphone port, but still including the lightning earpods and launching the airpods, and transitioning all their Beats headphones to use the W1 chip and offer a Lightning cable option with all wired Beats headphones.

Removing floppy, dvd, serial port, firewire, etc, are all great examples of addition by subtraction. Apple removed something, but had already replaced it with something better. Floppy was replaced with CD, and Apple shipped a computer with a CD drive before removing the Floppy. DVD was replaced with iTunes Store downloads, and the iTunes Store was up and running before Apple removed the DVD drive. Serial port was replaced with USB, but USB was available on Macs before Serial was removed. FireWire was replaced with Thunderbolt, but not before shipping a computer with Thunderbolt. Always replaced with something better in every way, before removing the older thing.

This time Apple is replacing something that was nearly perfect with something more complicated and sometimes of worse quality. It's just subtraction... no addition. I wouldn't mind as much if Apple had done more to promote and release lightning audio accessories and their fancy new W1 chip before making this change, to give the industry some time to put out compatible products.

This is the decision right now:
(1) Are you not ready or able to buy new wireless or lightning headphones to replace whichever ones you love right now?
(2) Are you planning to fly anywhere soon and use in the in-flight entertainment?
(3) Do you have a car without bluetooth (or where bluetooth sucks)?
If you answer yes to any of the above questions, then buying the new iPhone 7 isn't even on the table.

For me, it's: (1) Yes, because the model I love (Bose QC20) doesn't have anything even comparable that is wireless or lightning; (2) Yes, there is high-chance of me flying several times and I want to use the in-flight TV; (3) No, but I prefer aux-in for sound quality, and I do charge my phone while in the car all the time.

It's just like the MacBook they realised. Who can actually use something
Well you can always use this is you insist on charging and playing.

Fine, buy the adapter

N4sxOip.jpg

So you got the nice new slim iPhone 7 and then you gotta carry that lump of an adapter around. Say it was the other way round and apple have no head phone jack and everyone has that adapter.... Then they launch a phone with a 3.5ml jack. Everyone would want it, as it's so convenient that people wouldn't have to carry that extra lump about now. Do you see how it's worse to have to carry extra things? Apple should just have added wireless charging first, then removed the jack. Carrying around a load of extra gear it not the future and it's not courageous. Solving a problem, offering a better solution, and refining is

I imagine battery case makers will soon make them with a plug in. Those will probably be great sellers

Judging from some of the comments in the forum (and everywhere else on the internet), you would think people charge while listening to music 100% of the time they use their phone.

In bed and sometimes in car. When the phone call is long I prefer to charge the phone while speaking . Definitely not very often , but when I need extra juice it is important

Given my phone does not last a whole day on the battery, yeah I often plug it in to charge while listening to music

Yep, Apple have made it so simple now. I don't see why everyone is complaining???!!!!

It's your right to not buy an iPhone7.

Also, using headphones is kind of for teenagers who ride the bus type of vibe.

I only use them if I'm working out, so I'm in motion, aka not charging my phone.

I actually have had this going for the past several years, ever since they introduced the lightning connector. I prefer to have the highest quality of sound in my car which means going straight through the dock connector, imo. I am not super excited about the 7 but it was a free upgrade from T-Mobile so thats why I am upgrading.

Also its not like I am carrying anything, its all in the car and hasn't moved in years. :)

I haven't used headphones since the iPhone 4s. Only time I'm listening to music is in the car. If they finally get the screen to split in 2 where I can watch something and surf the web at same time then I would probably use one then

That's great for you. I don't know why you're having so much trouble understanding that not everyone uses their phone exactly the way you do.

Pretty much everyone at my office uses headphones, associate to partner. It's a great way to tune out the world and zone in on those marathon days. Unsurprisingly, those marathon days are the same ones I'd need to listen and charge.

I'll tell you what my 2nd biggest problem is with that adapter, is that it's not easily used at a distance, so that the phone can be used with a single cable in a car for instance.

I tried a similar arrangement when I replaced my head unit in my car, with the HDMI video adapter. The head unit accepted an HDMI input from the iPhone, so I could see Maps on my larger HU screen. So the plan was to plug the USB cable from the HU into it, and take the HDMI out of it, then run an extension cable from the adapter to my iPhone, so that I had one simple cable to plug into the iPhone giving a good three feet of movement to pass the phone to someone else in the car etc.

What I discovered the hard way, is that Apple's HDMI adapter doesn't work with a third party Lightning extension cable. And Apple doesn't seem to License such cables, or any third party products with a female Lightning port.

So the Belkin adapter may finally solve that problem, because to use this in my car, I need that extension cable to get it to my phone. Can you imagine that adapter hanging off your phone with the rest of that hanging off of it as well? I don't mind sticking that mess behind my glove box, but I do resent the implication of all that hanging off my phone.

My first biggest problem is that this isn't even necessary. Apple is already doing a Lightning passthrough port on their external battery case. This same concept should be built into the Lightning cable included in the box.

Charge in the car while using the jack to play music through the aux port on my stereo. Time for a dock I guess, or a new car....

Tldr; long road trips with the gps ftl
It's also a nice simple option on rental cars.

The last thing I want to do when picking up a car is sit in the airport lot for 10 minutes trying to get my phone's music and navigation playing nice with the car.

Ha! This was me a few weeks back. Tripping through menus in the parking lot after a 15 hour international flight.
