I watched the Blue Jays game & the World Cup of hockey game today on my iPad Mini while at work. I had my iPad charging the entire time in order to preserve the battery and I was listening to the sound while using headphones.

Although this is not an iPhone, I could definitely see this being an issue if they made the same change on the iPad's.

Never. I'm usually doing something active if I have headphones in not tethered to the wall. If I'm charging and I want to listen to music it'll be out of the speaker or a Bluetooth speaker.

I could see if your car only has an aux in because I charge in my car ALL the time. But if that was the case I would invest in whatever adapter I needed and just leave it in the car.

IS THIS A REAL THREAD? THATS ALL YOU DO WITH THE IPHONE! YOU HAVE TO CHARGE DAILY. ALL DAY EVERYDAY.

NOW, WHEN YOUR IPHONE DIES AND YOUR AIRPODS DIE, YOURE DONE.

It's your right to not buy an iPhone7.

Also, using headphones is kind of for teenagers who ride the bus type of vibe.

I only use them if I'm working out, so I'm in motion, aka not charging my phone.

Your condescension is hilarious. People who don't have Bluetooth in their car deserve to be laughed at, wearing headphones is for teenagers who ride the bus, since you only use your iPhone in a certain way then everyone else is wrong.

People use their phones in all sorts of different ways. That doesn't make them wrong and you right, or vice versa. This reminds me of the thread here where someone was arguing that real adults use only black phones and phone cases, and any other color was for non-professionals. It's just mind boggling how self possessed some people are.

I can't remember specifically but it's rare for me to do it. I probably do it less now because the last two plus phones I've had have good battery life and don't need charging until bedtime. My husband does it all the time with his S6 edge plus though.

Never charge and headphones at the same time. However, up until i got a new car a couple weeks ago I had an older jeep with an AUX in port, i would always charge the phone and have the aux cord in at the same time during longer trips. But like I said it wont be a problem now

thank you! I was trying to find the right words to respond to the post cause my first thought was "pretentious"...you pretty much said what I was thinking. there is no reason to belittle others because each individual's has their own way of using technology...we shouldn't make people feel inferior because they choose to go about life with their tech different from others.

The time this would be a problem is when people don't have Bluetooth in the car and want to use a 3.5 cable and run a maps app at the same time because the battery drains so much running navigation

I can see the desire to charge and listen to something, granted, you'll be stuck in one spot as your power cable needs to be plugged into an outlet.

Perhaps office workers at a desk job would be the majority of people with this desire?

With that being said, who actually does this and in what situation?

Every day I work. Also sometimes when I sleep I have headphones plugged in while I'm charging. I did this weekend While in Vegas for sure since I was sharing the room with a buddy and I'm sure he didn't want to listen to my podcasts.

I do.

So Apple is telling me that I need to change the way I use my phone so that I can use its product?

No thanks. I'll take a pass.

Well you can always use this is you insist on charging and playing.

Fine, buy the adapter

Get real!

Would never buy that.

IT'S NOT ABOUT CHARGING AND LISTENING AT THE SAME TIME IT'S ABOUT HAVING TO CHARGE HEADPHONES FOR SOME OF US!!! :p

And the included ones suck, so don't even mention those. They're painful to wear.

THIS!!

I have Bluetooth but the battery dies on navigation, or when my kid is playing Pokemon in the back seat.

I'm sure if its been said already but I listen to music when I sleep. Before I bought bluetooth headphones I needed to charge my phone and also have headphones plugged in. Had I not moved onto bluetooth headphones the lack of 3.5mm jack would have been a huge issue.

Well its like this, get a pair of wireless headphones, they last longer than the iPhone takes to charge, then once the iPhone is charged, if you are still listening to music after 3 hours, plug the wireless headphones in. It's not rocket science people, stop making excuses. Use your head to find a solution instead of whining about not having it.

For sake of argument, in the 1800s people didn't complain when it got dark and they had to get a candle out of the drawer, put it in a holder, get a match, light it, then light the candle, just to finish reading their book. It's 2016, we have the technology, all you have to do is a couple of taps and plug something in, it's not like you are going through hell.

I'm sure it won't be long until there's lightning splitters on eBay for a few £$. Either lighting to 2 lighting ports or lightning to 1 lightning port and 1 audio jack.

Been using Bluetooth headphones regularly for about 3 years now so it's not an issue

Biggest issue is for navigation in cars without bluetooth. I do that all the time in my 2009 Honda Accord, and now it won't work until somebody releases an adapter that has both headphone jack and lightning port feed-through.

For starters -- Apple didn't include a pair of Bluetooth headphones in the box. They included a pair of Lightning headphones. And there's no way to charge an iPhone and listen to music at the same time, right out of the box, as is possible with the iPhone 6s and SE.

Second -- even Apple didn't remove the ability from the Retina MacBook to listen to music with wired headphones and charge the MB at the same time! And that was marketed as a one port device. You can't charge and attach an external drive at the same time, but you can listen to music while charging!

Third, Apple's solution to charge and listen at the same time is to use a dock, which start at $40 -- something that used to be included in the cost of the iPhone. Apple's 3.5mm adapter costs $9, and that includes an ADC, DAC, DSP and amp, as well as Lightning circuitry. The Belkin dongle only contains some Lightning circuitry, and can only be used for one thing -- providing power and audio at the same time, and nothing else: it can't even be used to share a single audio signal between two sets of headphones, something else also possible with the headphone jack. And Apple knows that this is something its customers need because they worked closely with Belkin to develop it in time for the iPhone 7 release.

Belkin has that adapter. Use it together with the adapter that Apple supplies with the new phone and along with it and the problem is solved.

I leave my phone charging and playing music whilst an aux cable is plugged into my active speakers...most days when I'm in the kitchen.
